Anchor Bay shortly adds to the Stoner movie genre when it releases High School on June 1. The trailer below will be attached to the Universal release American Reunion in about 25 markets this weekend. One part of me eyeballs this and thinks Adrien Brody has certainly veered since his Oscar-winning turn in The Pianist, but the premise does look like a fun Stoner effort and Brody is a convincing crazed weed dealer. While the Harold & Kumar trilogy has been the most popular of recent pot pics, if I had to choose a favorite, the top dog would be Fast Times At Ridgemont High, and I would have to put the unsung but silly 1994 film The Stoned Age in there as a sleeper choice. What’s the best stoner film?

Dazed and Confused! Best stoner movie ever. Made me want to do drugs in high school. Until I realized real life drug use was nothing like that. Fun movie, though.
I had the good luck to attend a private screening of this film a few months ago and it went over huge. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long, long time. Adrien Brody is excellent, and the central friendship and conceit reminds me in only the best ways of my favorite R-rated 80s movies.

i saw this @ Sundance and i have to say – it’s a great stoner film, but it’s different. it isn’t as goofy and normal as this trailer makes it seem. it’s unique. kind of dark and weird, but in a great way.
I was looking at the principal and thinking, “I know that guy…who is it? Zach Galifinakis?” Then I saw the credits at the end–Michael Chiklis! You talk about Adrien Brody’s cred, but what about Chiklis? I would never have thought he’d go near something like this!
I’m just guessing, but I don’t think Mike ever did say no to drugs, or did you, Mike?
Hands down Pineapple Express. My best stoner movie ever plus James Franco can play all types of stoners, so makes him the best actor too for these types of roles.

The best stoner film was 2001: A Space Odyssey. Were it not for the stoners, 2001 would never have gotten off the ground.
Rather than being about getting stoned, 2001 gave people who were stoned a film to enjoy during the rush high.
OK, it’s not a stoner movie… But the River’s Edge has to get an honarable mention for ‘fec weed’. Plus Dennis Hopper’s and Crispin Grover’s performances. Even if you do hate that little kid in it. (OK, there’s something wrong with me.)
