Dear Judd,
Please start using new people besides Paul Rudd and your immediate family. The public is really not interested.
I agree completely! Please stop casting Leslie Mann in all of the female leads. I respect that she is Judd’s wife – but, her acting skills are minimal and her voice at best is irritating without tonal cadence.
Well, I actually adore her, and am glad Judd keeps giving her great roles.
Same thing with Paul Rudd, the guy deserves MORE great roles.
Seriously, enough with your kids, dude.
I actually like these two. In fact, I love it when directors/writers/producers remain loyal to their cast and crew… Maybe you should write/direct something and cast whomever you like?
Dear Janey,
I, for one, am extremely interested in Paul Rudd.
Come on! Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann are WAY better than Seth Rogern and Katherine Heigel.
In fact, Rudd and Mann were the best part about Knocked Up. Heigel is overrated and Rogen could be the most annoying actor on the face of the planet. Watching him act makes me want to take a shower. Guy always disgusting stubble and his laugh makes me cringe.
film looks zeitgesty as per apatow standards, the but “FUN” song is too on the nose IMHO.
I think Judd has lost it.
I second that.
Third this. Looks pretty bad. Not one funny bit. Forced ‘kooky-ness’ and a style of humor that was sorta funny 5 – 10 years ago. Now it looks retreaded and lazy.
And please! Stop with the Jason Segal already.
Fourth…
How hard is it to be juvenile? It’s like he forgot or something. Now IM depressed.
Starring Paul Rudd as Judd Apatow.
Sooooooooo that was awesome if you like storyless, arrogant, unfunny, and unmistakably miserable things.
It looks like a downer of a movie. Judd’s a genius, but this and Funny People seem to be more dramas than comedies.
I think genius is a little strong.
There is a difference between “genius” and “successful.”
Shakespeare was a genius. Tolstoy was a genius. Ease up on the hyperbole, you make yourself look like an idiot.
Why’s he holding an iPhone and a funnel at the end? Is he funneling something into his colon?
This looks amazing.
Huge fan of Apatow’s stuff, especially the directorial efforts.
Oh, boy! People living in Santa Monica Canyon dealing with their First World problems!
No doubt! I LOVE paying to see the bullshit problems of all my former 1% employers…
Beginning to think the Adam Sandler character in Funny People was actually based on Judd.
Not quite the emotional high of FUNNY PEOPLE’s trailer (with Ringo Starr’s Photographs) but a solid first trailer. Judd’s style would really benefit from the red band, considering militant MPAA censorship and more people consume trailers online anyway.
I love Judd!! However this film needs to be amazing to stand the heap of criticism that will be thrown it’s way for Its self indulgent aspects prior to anyone even seeing it. It also needs to be really funny which the trailer isn’t.
That’s the funny thing about success.
Success can kill the funny.
what an incredibly average looking movie.
I assume that this film’s taking pains not to be funny is simply an intentional, sardonic send-up of films that are so annoyingly amusing.
How clever, almost to the point of being entertaining.
Rich White People Problems! Did Apatow co-write this with Nancy Meyers?
Give the guy some fucking credit for doing something different it’s a story about being 40 who else would use their cred to make this?
Rich white people problems indeed. This looks like it was made for about four zip codes in America.
Maybe it got left out of the trailer, but how can you make a movie like this today without at least touching on money problems?
Apatow is living too much in his own world.
THIS. He’s entering James Brooks and Albert Brooks territory here. This plays to Malibu and Brentwood, and possibly upper West Side, and that’s…about it.
Doug Ellin tried to make a TV series about that, and look what happened…
Adam Sandler
What’s the over / under on how long this will be? I can’t see it being less than 2:20 even though, like most Apatow films, two hour or under would be more than enough.
He lost my respect with GIRLS. After that, it’s hard to see this as anything but rich privilege prattle.
Nicole holofcener, every nancy meyers movie
Your criticism of Nicole Holofcener seems unfair. She actually explores the significance of class and money upon psychology, whilst Meyers (either willfully or unintentionally) ignores social dilemmas in her work.
I have no interest in Judd Apatow or Paul Rudd. I think we are in mediocre times as far as film is concerned and these are the mediocre elite of our times.
Look back at the 70s and Miramax 90s arguable the golden age. I do believe we are headed back to that soon. Also music was at it’s best in the 70s and Nirvana 90s.
Come on time.
You’re living in the past, man!
Yeah, sorry it’s not about a twenty something year old and their breakup and/or quest to get laid. This looks real and it looks great.
Haters – to answer your question Doug Elin for one. But HBO was wise enough to blow that p.o.s. out of the water
This is having $40M in the bank.
Hey guys,
You know Judd totally reads these comments, we should be cool.
You know what’s weird? I totally had the same feelings about the trailer (out of touch, the movie’s going to be too long, rich white people problems, etc.) but then I read specforsale’s comment and thought “you know what? That’s right.” If it’s not for you — and it pretty much looks like it’s not for me either — there’s no reason to be uncool about it.
Best comment ever.
Wow! There are some bitter, jealous people on this comment section. I’m sorry he guy is more successful than you. Get over it!
We’re sorry too. There’s alot of really good scripts out there that won’t get made — some of which were written by people commenting here — because the likes of Judd Apatow keep sucking up development monies. It’s the price we all pay for mediocrity. And yes, I’m jealous as hell. I wish I could be as un-funny and make that kinda cash.
Lol…. Where’s the like button on this thing… Wonder if it has lingering scenes in a $300,000 kitchen?
300k kitchen aaaahahahah!
