New Line has released a fresh trailer for Rock of Ages, giving a bit more of a glimpse of Tom Cruise as the decadent hair band icon Stacee Jaxx. I’ve seen the film, a fun confection that is Mamma Mia! for those who came of age in the 80s. The real revelation is Cruise. He throws himself headlong into the role, spent months learning to sing and prance like a rocker, and he crushes it.

Pardon the pun, but this thing’s gonna rock.
Straight to DVD.
lol… harsh. Tom Cruise looks hot in this but what other purpose does this film serve?
Probably the same purpose as most others movies. To entertain people. Did you mean something else?
The film is supposed to serve as a mechanism to broker a peace between Chechen rebels and Russia.
Seriously, dude, what the fcuk do you mean “what purpose does this film serve??”
It’s a form of entertainment that is inexpensive and a legal alternative to spending exorbitant amounts of money on coke and hookers.
Mike, any idea how this might fair to critics.
Can’t f-ing wait. Nobody knows how to have more fun making a musical than Shankman. They all look like they’re having a blast.
Neither the Rock nor the Ages look to appealing. Let’s see how good this film is, and if it finds a demographic base to support it.
“Hot Trailer”?
Looks horrible… a REALLY horrible incoherent mess.
I was at an early screening of ROA and the movie literally rocked the house. Why not wait until you see what this one is all about before hating on it? I think you may be eating your words.
Looks fun, and I thought it would be a stinker from the first trailer.
Cruise will be remembered for this performance in his filmography as much as he will be remembered for Risky Business. This movie follows no formula and hits every mark nonetheless.
As a trailer that sucks so hard it took three interns, all unpaid but they’re gaining great experience, to pull me off the laptop screen. As someone who *cough* “came of age in the 80s” and still has a thing for the music while now realizing how embarrassing it all is, I can’t wait to see this movie.
Ugh.
And I say that as someone who owns both Mamma Mia and Hairspray on dvd and owns their soundtracks and is an 80′s metal fan.
Ugh.
Why couldn’t they have gotten people who could sing? Or act?
Script by Allan Loeb? No way this thing is anything less than awesome.
Guy has never churned out a bland mediocre script in his life!
I’m a fan, too. Loved THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE. But, never? How bout WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS?
Just when Tom Cruise thought he was back in as a star with MI4, he threw himself back out to ridiculous with this movie. The trailer looks awful to start, but with Cruise it looks laughable.
So it’s a rock episode of “Glee?”
I needed a good laugh this morning, thank you
More like a mid-life crisis episode of Glee.
“Return to Showgirls” LOL
This musical has a HUGE following and I’ve been to see it multiple times. I hope the movie lives up to it because the original show is wildly entertaining and very funny.
Sorry but didn’t Alan Loeb write the Dilemma? That was a flaming turd if there ever was one.
This looks awful. Alec Baldwin is gross and Cruise looks terrible. Russell Brand is his usual obnoxious repellent self so I’m sure it will be a big hit.
I went to the musical in NY and ended up taking jello shots with the hedge fund manager and his family sitting next to me. If the movie is half as fun as the musical it’s going to mint $.
I am taking my grandmother to see this opening weekend! Probably an early show. But she and her elderly friends are all excited to see this!
I am on my way to the theater to ask for my money back and all i did was watch that crappy trailer
This should do just as well as Hairspray did, both critically and financially.
So look for 200 million+ worldwide and around 90% on rottentomatoes.
It give me no pleasure to say this, but it looks ridiculous.
Why is this video so stretched? That hurt my eyes.
The movie looks fun tho.
If you’re going to advertise something called “Rock of Ages”, you should have some actual “rock” to promote. I saw a lot of none of that.
