This makes THE KING’S SPEECH look like a Merchant-Ivory film.
“I’ll have what she’s having, Guv’nor!”
Is this a rip off of or an adaptaion of The Vibrator Play that was on B’way a few seasons back?
Neither, this script was around before the play.
I heartily recommend this movie. It came out a while back in europe. It’s laugh out loud comedy, with making subtle inferences to the woman’s plight at the time. Go see it.
Saw this during TIFF last fall – exceptional cast and just totally delightful. Was thrilled to hear SPC got behind it when it did as it definitely deserves a wider audience.
this movie need a few more producers in it.
This looks like a delicious, delightful romp!
But is that Rupert Everett featured at the end?
I don’t recognize him post-facelift. Sad.
It has its gloriously funny moments but direction/script fail to bring about the change of tone viz. deal with the underlying serious stuff. The result is a film of two halves, each one taken from the respective two films that could have been made had all the producers worked together or at the same time. This makes the whole experience very unbalanced, unfortunately. Rupert Everett is brilliantly funny but has an essentially cameo role so not nearly enough screen time. The film should have gone and stayed comedy or social drama, but in attempting both it’s close, but no cigar.
