BREAKING: Chris Meledandri’s Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures have set John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky to write the script Woody Woodpecker, the venerable and precociously noisy bird that first appeared in 1940 and will be resurrected in an animated feature.

Altschuler and Krinsky’s animated credits include the Mike Judge series creations Beavis And Butt-Head and King of The Hill, and they also scripted the Will Ferrell-Jon Heder figure skating comedy Blades of Glory. The film joins the roster of development projects for Illumination, which most recently released Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax. The scribes are repped by WME and 3 Arts.

Such a naughty name for a naughty bird.
This is indeed good news. Thinking back, I cannot remember ever laughing at a Wood Woodpecker cartoon. Perhaps if they made Woody an environmental hero, out to keep an evil Republican logging company from destroying the world’s biggest tree, then… SHIT I just wrote the movie for nothing
woody woodpecker… oh my. there’s just no faith in fresh thinking.
This will be like Garfield/Alvin and the Chipmunk movies: Humans interacting with CG animals.
They mention in the announcement that this is going to be all-animated.
If there was any doubt that creativity died in Hollywood, this movie makes it official.
This is up there with turning The Lone Ranger into a feature.
Why. . . ? WHY. . . ?
Was anybody missing these characters?
I remember coming home from elementary school and watching repeats of these shows when I was seven years old. And they bored me even then. I watched them only because they were on TV.
