UPDATE: Am now being told by sources close to Jason Sudeikis that he’s more than circling the male lead as I reported below.
EXCLUSIVE: Jennifer Aniston is circling We’re The Millers, the New Line comedy about a pot dealer who pulls together a fake wife and two kids to pose as an RV road-tripping family so that he can smuggle 1000 pounds of pot cross country. Dodgeball‘s Rawson Thurber is directing. Aniston is in talks to play the fake wife, who’s actually a hooker. Her Horrible Bosses costar Jason Sudeikis is eying the role of the family patriarch (he’s the pot smuggler). The kids are juvenile delinquents. The raunchy comedy, described as a “warped Vacation,” has a script by Wedding Crashers scribes Bob Fisher & Steve Faber, and the film’s produced by David Heyman, Happy Walters, Vince Newman and Tucker Tooley, with Benderspink exec producing. Aniston is coming off Wanderlust, and she’s repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
She is separately attached to star in an an untitled comic heist thriller written and to be directed by Justin Theroux. Aniston, Theroux and Jerry Weintraub are producers. Aniston and Theroux became a couple after they worked together on Wanderlust.

She needs to stop with these comedies and get working on The Goree Girls. Jen isn’t getting any younger. It’s Oscar time!
I LOVE The Goree Girls script. Aniston should produce and let go of her need to act in it. She’s way too old for the part.
The Goree Girls is one of my favorite scripts of all time. Aniston should step out and let it happen with other actresses. There are parts for Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Hudson, Anne Hathaway, Kristen Chenoweth, Kristin Wiig.
With the success of The Help why doesn’t Dreamworks make The Goree Girls? Let Aniston be a producer.
I’m the nephew of one of the Goree girls. Any way I could get a peek at that script? I’ve been hanging on with this for almost 10 years now.
She’s afraid to play a part that asks her to change her hair. She should stop holding the script hostage and let it get made.
The only reason it hasn’t been made is because of her.
Huge fan of Goree Girls! I’ve kept that script in my favorites pile for so long.
These movies Aniston chooses are all the same. I think she must not be that into the whole acting thing.
Is there any chance Goree could be made? Who has the rights?
Directors love the script but when they find out Aniston is attached won’t meet. The part is beyond her limited skill set.
“We’re the Millers” sounds like it was written with Jennifer in mind.
Any chance, as she is a hooker, that Jennifer might be shedding her clothes? The clock is ticking.
she always picks the same kind of roles – comedies where she can be safely sexy but never anything daring or brave. come on, Jen, take a risk for once. you’ve got enough money now, haven’t you?
No, no, you don’t get it. She’s playing a hooker, so plan on the skirts being way shorter with cleavage and nipple galore! No safely sexy here. Uh-uh. This is a daring stretch of Aniston’s talent!
Thought she was topless in The Good Girl, or was that a double?
Are these the only roles Aniston is being offered, or is she actually seeking out this dross? It’s not like she needs the money when taking on these worthless roles.
another movie I’ll never see.
She’s good being raunchy! I like her on Horrible Bosses, I’ll probably like this one too! Way to go Jen!
Wasn’t she a fake wife in Just Go With It as well? Her movies all start to blend together.
Justin sure is taking full advantage of this relationship. Almost like he is using her to get ahead in Hollywood. Wanderlust bombed, so not sure it is a good idea to team up again.
I wonder if you thought the same thing when Jolie doubled her asking price after hooking up with Brad Pitt. Remember, she followed Tomb Raider with five years worth of bomb after bomb and was on her way out the door when he conveniently came along.
Sure Theroux is more known now but he co-wrote Tropic Thunder, wrote Iron Man 2, adapted Rock of Ages and was set to direct the Zoolander sequel from a script he wrote BEFORE Aniston came along. Plus, he’s got an animated show in development at Fox that Aniston has nothing to do with. You guys act like he’s some unemployed waiter who just caught his first break.
um Mike what does Jolie have to do with what that poster wrote…not everyone who criticizes Aniston is a fan of Jolie and vice versa..get over it..its been 7 years move on
lol on her way out the door…puleez if Nicole Kidman and Halle Berry can still get movie roles what makes you think Jolie would not have been hired for any movies, heck Aniston has yet to carry a movie on her own and somehow she still gets roles..and fyi Jolie was slated to star in the Good Shepard before her and Pitt officially hooked up and DeNiro personally picked her..instead of worrying about Jolie how bout you go support Wanderlust which was a total FLOP
Did anyone actually see The Good Shepard? No, no they didn’t. Unless it’s an action movie where she barely has any dialogue, basically the Tomb Raider role over and over again, Jolie can’t carry a movie to save her life. See Taking Lives, Original Sin, Beyond Borders, Life or Something Like It, Mighty Heart and the underperforming Tourist. Her supporting role work isn’t much better. See Alexander, Sky Captain and the aforementioned Good Shepard. Her biggest hits are the animated films where no one has to see her, so yeah, I guess that makes her a big movie star. LOL.
The reality is that most of these people bomb more than they have hits. That is true of Aniston and that is true of Jolie. As well as Matt Damon and George Clooney. When was the last time either one of them made any actual money for anyone?
Wow you spewed a lot of words to take a swipe at Angie. Who has NOTHING TO DO WITH JENNIFER ANISTON’s BO success or failure
But Angie is in good company. Maybe you should research Meryl, Kate, Anne, Cate, Halle, Charlize, Nicole, and countless others and look at their BO totals.
I think Angie’s “FLOPS” have done better than most. YOUR comment was very obvious. But I guess you and the other JA fans need to go there to support your girl. Good for you. And what film exactly has Jennifer Aniston EVER carried on her on to any BO success?
Yeah… that slate is still empty
Give it a rest. One has nothing to do with the other. When are you people going to LET IT GO!!!
So the Good Shepard made $0 at the box office according to you. Yes people saw the Good Shepard. People see all her films.
The Tourist made $278,346,189 worldwide, how is that underperforming. Salt made $293,503,354 worldwide on Angelina’s name alone, no big male lead to support her. It was a new story with no built in book fans.
Angelina is a big movie star, whether you like it or not.
That’s totally incorrect. Jolie’s asking price was already $10+ million per movie BEFORE she and Pitt got together. She made $10 million for Mr. & Mrs. Smith so that’s a “DUH!” She later doubled her asking price on the basis of hit films and being able to open a movie – just like Leo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp, Will Smith, Pitt, et. al. have double and tripled their asking prices after delivering at the box office.
On the other hand, Aniston has never had a hit film on her own merit. Has she been in OTHER PEOPLE’S HITS? Yes – Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jim Carrey. You could have put an orangutan in Aniston’s role and the movies still would have been hits. She’s been also been in hits based on multi-million selling books – including Marley & Me which was on the NY Times Best Sellers list for about 5 years. She wasn’t even featured in the trailers for that movie and again, an orangutan could have played her role and it still would have been a hit.
This script has been around, FOR-ever….. the brads must have been rusty!
-RnsW
And again she is paired with someone way more talented. Never the leading role. Same old same old..
Jerry must be going batty.. why would he back these two people that could not muster a BO of over 20 million. Well it’s his money to throw away.
Faber is an awesome writer. The Millers script is hilarious!
bob fisher does most of the heavy lifting.
Not a slam, but Jen should give up this half-assed, half-baked shit and search out a really smart, good HBO or Showtime series. 2 years from now she might not be able to get one. As a previous poster pointed out, these movies really do blend together and she becomes less and less valuable by the day.
I wholeheartedly agree. Still she doesn’t seem to have the temerity to go back to TV either. It’s far too easy to pick up a paycheck to do the same old same old which may in fact strike the gold or simply be forgotten then to risk failing on the small screen which would be the death knell for her career.
She really needs something fresh to give her career a good kick. Something small without box office expectations where she can just act.
I read she’s doing The Switch. And Miss You Already. Now she’s doing We’re the Millers. Does anyone know in what order she’s doing these films? Looks like she’ll be working all of 2012 and into 2013.
All those going on about how she needs to pick something different: she has. She just signed on and is about to film two very different projects. The first is the Untitled Elmore Leonard Project which is a crime action drama with Denis Quaid, John Hawkes and Ty Burrell. It’s set to start shooting in May. The other is Miss You Already, a dramedy about a friendship that becomes strained when one friend becomes pregnant and the other ill. It’s set to start shooting in June in London and her co-star is rumored to be Toni Collette. If she does take We’re the Millers on, it sounds like this is more Horrible Bosses then traditional rom-com, and certainly gives her a chance to play against type again while still being a comedy, which she has a talent for. Nothing much is yet known about the Untitled Justin Theroux Project aside from it being a comedy heist film, so until we know more, it’s hard to say whether that would be a departure for her or not.
Thank you. Finally someone who makes some good points. Aniston has a bunch of different projects on her slate that are different than some of the rom coms. But you know if she picked something serious they’d all bitch about how it was a crass attempt at an Oscar and who does she think she, stick to comedies you old blah, blah blah.
I feel like this site has become some sort of creepy Celebitchy or something, always snarking with crap like “you’re not getting any younger.” You know they don’t say that shit about any of the male actors in Hollywood or make a big stink when one of their films bombs. See Matt Damon and the $150 million bath they took on The Green Zone for example. Or the fact that Johnny Depp has played one character in the last 700 movies.
Aniston seems like a decent person and she’s not really far up her own ass the way half of Hollywood seems to be so I don’t really get the insane hate for her. She has talent. She was great in The Good Girl and Friends with Money, but I’m not so sure about her agents. I saw an interview with her recently where she basically said they want her to do is rom coms until the end of time. I understand wanting to trust Huvane, he’s a huge agent, but she might want to think about getting rid of him if these next projects don’t work for her.
So agree with you: people like to hate on her for some reason and they choose whatever they can grasp at to do so. The same people who complain about her “always choosing romantic comedies” fail to acknowledge that none of the films she’s currently linked to are in fact rom-coms, nor were her last two projects (because even Wanderlust was more broad ensemble comedy than traditional rom-com). I’m looking forward to her two indie-type projects and hoping they are well written and offer her something different and more in line with Good Girl, Friends With Money, etc. It’s been too long since she did a project like those. We’re the Millers also sounds like it has the potential to give her some good comedic bits to work with. Too often her comedy talent and timing is wasted when she chooses rom-com roles, so hopefully this will be more like her turn in Horrible Bosses, which is what it sounds like.
It isn’t likely she’s shooting one film in May and another in June since the first would still be shooting. I’m curious how many of the 4 films that her people have sent out releases about actually end up getting made.
Why is someone always accusing that “her people have sent out releases” where Aniston is concerned? You’re on Deadline, a site devoted to breaking industry news, what do you expect to read here? Aniston’s people don’t have to send out any release whatsoever as film casting is industry news, and anything about Aniston is news.
However, for We’re the Millers all sites are reporting she’s in talks and that she’s currently more the hold out. It isn’t a done deal until she signs and apparently she’s had an offer for a couple of weeks. But regarding Miss You Already and the Untitled Elmore Leonard Project, both film’s directors have spoken publicly about her involvement. MUA’s director has confirmed her involvement and said shooting starts in London in June. UELP’s director has confirmed her involvement and other sites have stated it starts shooting in May (yet to be confirmed though).
It’s entirely possible she could be involved in both and those start dates are correct: she could shoot UELP from beginning of May to mid or late June before going straight into MYA. UELP is an ensemble piece so she won’t be needed for the entire shoot and her parts could be shot first.
Sounds ghastly.
“Miss You Already” sounds a little like Beaches.
Poor Jason Sudeikis. Doesn’t he realize that Jennifer Aniston is an incubus that will suck the life force out of him like she does all her male co-stars?
How many more “straight-to-airline” Jennifer Aniston movies do we need to suffer through before somebody sends in a priest to put an end to her evil plans?
Looks like Aniston’s paid posters are here. Get real folks. Aniston is a mediocre actress who got lucky when she hooked up with Brad. She is a box office poison. Let’s see if this movie and all her “upcoming” projects being sent by her PR just to prop up her ego will see the light of day. After her FLOP, Wanderlust, I doubt studios will be spending money on all her shit. She should just retire and be done with it.
Aniston signs usually several projects, and most of her movies are low cost and should not take too long to be filmed. They do not require much physically (always the same hair, costumes) and artistic productions are without risk … And speaking serious i hate these comedians Sandler, Stiller, Paul Rud ….. but these people always have a lot of work ….For me Aniston is unlikely to be in a big production of BIG directors or something epic, a project to be expensive ….
Can’t she act in anything age appropriate ? Not that I would see it. She just does the same part to death
Small screen, years ago….yeah, she did alright. Maybe she needs to move on. Or maybe she just cant act. She seems a bit boreing. Like she cant carry a conversation, without a script in front of her. Oh well…..
Oh, great–Rachel, the hooker version. I’m sure the lines will be out the door to see that.
Wanderlust tanked, and she was front and center, promoting it. Aniston even said she was nude in Wanderlust. She even talking about hooking up with her current piece (the guy who had a live-in girlfriend at the time)–Scandal! And where did all this PR get her? Nowhere. She couldn’t come in any better than a 6 million and 8th place. Even Katherine Heigl did better and people were all over Heigl for that movie.
It seems like Aniston has received a million chances to prove she has a box office clout on her name alone, but she never delivers and keeps on going. It boggles the mind, really.
