John Legend has joined the quartet of star mentors on ABC’s upcoming music reality series Duets. He replaces Lionel Richie, who was originally tapped for the gig but has pulled out citing scheduling conflicts. Duets will feature Legend, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Nettles and Robin Thicke as they set out across the country looking for two undiscovered singers to be their duets partners. The duets will compete for the top prize: a recording contract with Hollywood Records for the aspiring singer. The show, hosted by Quddus, is slated to premiere May 24. Legend has been active in television lately. The nine-time Grammy winner also hosted and executive produced a music special, which is in consideration for a series pickup at Showtime.

Actually there are too many singing shows….they’re cancelling each other out, and you know — these “judges” are only doing it to enhance their own careers. Because the contestants 9 times out of 10 don’t go on to better careers.

Since the music industry went in the toilet, it’s all about these TV judging gigs for name performers to stay in the public eye/supplement income. Sad.

So they went from a legendary artists to a guy with Legend as his last name.
I gotta admit, having someone like Lionel on board brought the show some class.
Names like Ms. American Idol, Robin Thicke and Legend just make it middle of the road.
“Legend” has it this will be another reality/singing program to eventually join the list of Abc cancellations.
Would have been nice if Lionel’s sudden “scheduling conflict” had arisen BEFORE he shot those advertisements for the show. LMAO! So what’s the real deal with Lionel (because we all know his excuse is BS)?
He can afford NOT to do this show. His advisers warned him that this is a mistake so he backed out.
This thing will be CXLed after a few airings as there are just too many of these shows on right now and it’s called overkill.
