EXCLUSIVE: Karyn Usher will mark her 10-year-anniversary at 20th Century Fox TV next year as the drama writer-producer has signed a new two-year overall deal with the studio to start in June. Usher has been at 20th series since 2003, working under an overall deal for the past two. Following a stint on the studio’s Lyon’s Den, she worked on Prison Break for its entire run and also served as co-executive producer on Bones. This development season, she landed her first pilot order for an untitled drama about the orphaned 14-year-old daughter (Saxon Sharbino) who becomes a spy herself. Brett Ratner is directing the Fox pilot, which co-stars Julian McMahon, Angela Bassett and Rick Schroder. “Karyn has shown her versatility, and she always does fantastic work,” said 20th TV chairman Gary Newman, adding that the studio brass “are very bullish on her pilot.” Usher is with WME.

Nice to see hard work pay off. Fox need to lock her up for another 10 years. The other networks are in desperate need of a voice likes hers.
Me thinks this smells o’ pilot pickup!!
Congrats to everyone involved — and to Fox for taking a chance on a series with a young protagonist.
I don’t get it. In the last eight years I’ve had three pilots made and they’ve all gone to series. I sell or am hired to write two pilots a season. I’ve served as executive producer and co-executive producer on a long series of successful shows. And yet nobody has ever offered me one of these studio deals. Is this something I should talk to my agent about? Am I missing something?
Sounds like you’re missing a good agent…
You go girl! Sooo happy for you! Karyn is an amazing writer/producer and truly deserves this. What a blessing for Fox — they should keep her in the fold forever!
Usher is going to do a great job with this show! Congrats Karyn!
