The presumptive Republican nominee for president might appear on Saturday Night Live. “I haven’t made a decision on that; just heard about it,” Mitt Romney told Diane Sawyer today about the late-night show’s invite. “Of course,” he added, “it would depend on the nature of the skit. I want it to be funny.” Romney was talking to Sawyer for ABC’s World News Tonight. The interview is scheduled to be broadcast tonight on World News Tonight and Nightline. SNL executive producer Lorne Michaels extended an invite over the weekend for Romney to appear this season. Romney, regularly mocked by SNL for his sometimes stiff and patrician manner, admitted that he even sets his DVR to record the show for Jason Sudeikis’ turns as him; the GOP frontrunner said Sudeikis’ impression was “very good.” Romney has poked fun at himself before, doing the Top Ten list on CBS’ Late Show With David Letterman in December. He played it much straighter, though, when he visited NBC’s The Tonight Show With Jay Leno in March. He would join a long list of White House occupants and contenders to grace the stage at Studio 8H over SNL‘s 37 seasons. That group includes Gerald Ford, Barack Obama, John McCain, Hilary Clinton and Sarah Palin, among others.
Deadline's Dominic Patten - tip him here.

it’s Nixon on Laugh In all over again.
Why go on SNL. To be funny, tell jokes & get exposure? No need… he’s doing a GREAT JOB getting laughs, trying to be funny. And no way can he top his last joke on SNL, he’s said it many times. The joke? “I’m running for President and I’ll win.” That’s a really huge, LOL! Well, He’s soooo out of touch with America, which makes me predict, or should I say, makes me recommend he try… “I’ve fallen & can’t get up.” Well, you get the message. Don’t you? SNL… go get him. LOL. FUNNY!!! Stay tuned, there’s more jokes to come from this dude.
Maybe he’ll go off a cliff with Toonces the Cat driving.
Why not? Obama has already driven the rest of the country off a cliff.
Really?
You right wing nut jobs seem to have selective amnesia that begins in 2000 and ends in 2008. Go do your homework because the biggest cliff-driving events happened during your blackout period.
The tranquilizing stimulus bill did not occur before 2009. The extension of the Patriot Act did not occur before 2009. The NDAA did not occur before 2009. The proliferation of czars and executive orders designed to circumvent congressional authority and prerogatives did not occur before 2009. The tripling of the federal budget deficit and subsequent debasement of the U.S. dollar occurred on Obama’s watch. The rise in commodity inflation occurred on Obama’s watch. The list goes on and on.
BTW, I’m not a right wing nut job. I’m a libertarian nut job. I voted neither for Bush nor his Dem opponents.
HAHAHAHAHAHA.
Agreed.
BTW… will someone tell Romney NOT to use the phrase, “WINNING”, it’s taken by another actor.
they can just dust off some old Jon Lovitz sketches, “yeah, that’s the ticket…”
Oh, he should do this! It will bury him once and for all!
*wrings hands gleefully*
Al Gore was smart — all he did was sit there during a “What Up Wit Dat” skit…
the whole point of a politician going on SNL is that it’s supposed to be unexpected and surprising. By saying he’s “pondering” it he is defeating the purpose and this is exactly why no one really wants to vote for him.
He wants to do a skit that’s funny? Then stay off SNL Mitt, they’ll just do some lame parody of a debate or something.
I think showing he has a sense of humor about himself will go a long way toward winning over “the young people.”
This will work!!!
It’s clear then he won’t be on SNL…cuz he said it’d have to
“be funny”.
They haven’t done that since Jane Curtain left(youtube it, kids).
And rock’n'roll hasn’t been good since the Beatles broke up, right? Gramps, go back to watching Matlock from your comfy chair. We don’t want you to break a hip.
Jane Curtain??? So you missed all those years when people like Eddie Murphy, Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Jan Hooks, Dennis Miller, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Darrell Hammond, Cheri Oteri, Molly Shannon, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Will Forte and Bill Hader kept the funny going? Wow, have you missed a lot!
May give him a boost, but if it’s too late and he’s on a downward spiral, definitely won’t salvage him. If Obama buries him in the debates – a problem of timing. The absolute beginning of the season would work best probably – make an appearance; have some fun; get on and get off; show you have a sense of humor about yourself; make the distinction between what you would do in campaign mode vs. how would you be as president; don’t diminish the presidency – otherwise you’re just being Obama and unconsciously will come off as a hypocrite lifting from his wardrobe “bracket.” The appearance itself is what it is and what it isn’t – that’s always been the case it seems to me.
Regarding going on SNL, I’m sure Romney will change his mind a few times before settling on whatever a focus group tells him to do.
Yeah, cuz Obama never does that.
Al gore’s rehabilitation began when he did the Oval office short for SNL. A good appearance could really help ol’ Stiff Mittens.
if he wants to be in a funny skit – snl is not the place for such things.
I’m sorry, but did you say he’s pandering or pondering SNL?
Yep, tis the season for all the politicos to appear on SNL.
how much you wanna bet he makes multiple decisions on the subject
Knowing how he does things, he’ll probably make an appearance this spring, and if it goes well, will be back in the fall right before the election. Unless he doesn’t.
I said a flip, a flop, the flippie, the flippie
To the flip flip flop, a you dont stop
GM maybe it’s the left wing nutjobs tare delusional as well, I voted for Obama and he has been horrible! Healthcare will go down in the supreme court because of the individual mandate which Obama was against while campaigning, then the cost of the bill doubled! All he is talking about now is the Buffet Rule which won’t even reduce the deficit by 10%. Not to mention he is still against gay marriage which apparently left-wingers give him a pass on! People say Romney flip-flops well so does Obama – gitmo, patriot act, no lobbyist, transparency, individual mandate, patriot act, etc…
I’m tired of both parties…
The only funny SNL sketch would be a Robert Smigel cartoon with Mitt Romney
Maybe a sketch about putting a bunch of people out of work. Romney spent so much time doing that, he must think it’s hilarious.
