FRIDAY: When you want to release bad news, everyone knows you do it on a Friday night. The New York Times is citing sources tonight that, not surprisingly, NBC News ended its internal investigation by firing the still unnamed “seasoned” producer deemed responsible. The dismissal reportedly took place on Thursday with no public announcement.
THURSDAY: An NBC News probe found that a “seasoned” producer was responsible for a misleadingly edited clip of the 911 call the network broadcast during coverage of the Trayvon Martin shooting, network sources told Reuters. More than half a dozen news staff were interviewed for the network’s internal investigation. The edited version of the 911 call placed by George Zimmerman just before he shot Trayvon Martin made it appear Zimmerman immediately told police Martin was black, but the full recording reveals that the neighborhood watch captain mentioned the teen’s race only when responding to a question posed by the dispatcher. Network sources did not indicate whether the producer or other staff would be subject to disciplinary action. NBC has apologized for the incident but said it would not release names of employees involved. Execs have vowed to take rigorous steps to formalize news division standards following the incident.

Maybe the producer worked for Breitbart, or Twitchy’s. Maybe Fox, they’re good for that crap. Expcet those chumps never apologise for anything. NC should’t either.
The guy killed a kid folks. Why are we giving a damn about his feelings again?
It’s funny how so many people accuse Fox of the same “crap.” Except when push comes to shove no one can document their misdeeds. You may not agree with their opinion shows (O’Reilly and Hannity) but their news standards seem to be rather rigorous.
Can you please document your claim about Fox. Facts, not conjecture or speculation.
What has Fox got to do wit this? NBC needs to apologize directly to Zimmerman. But they won’t because the cowards are afraid of a lawsuit.
You should apply at NBC.
NBC wanted to make this a white on black crime from the beginning. What haters at that place.
An honest editing error? George Zimmerman should be pleased to learn that NBC has re-embraced the principal of innocent until proven guilty.
Notice how demented some of the replies here are. HURR FOX NEWS SUCKS TOO!! It’s as though it is so painful to realize that “their side” got caught doing something outright evil that the only thing that can make them feel better is to blurt out their “two minutes hate” slogans.
We’re basically living the movie Network now. News is entertainment. Truth is not valued. This should be scaring more people than it seems to. Our Republic is not long for this world.
Gotta love the “they edited it due to time constraints” attampts at misdirection and obfuscation. NBC smears a man under investigation and attempts to start a race war and they can’t even name the culprit? Thank you new media for exposing this corruption while the NYTimes and MSNBC jumped on the slander train.
That comment is pathetic. Why do you bash fox because NBC got caught for something most people know. That news companies try to push their opinions in the public by presenting them with sceud information.
I sincerely will not miss DVD’s. There is no film made that I can justify paying more than $5.00 to see. So if and when it is available for streaming I will wait. I already own an ample amount of DVD’s so unless it’s an incredible must have film I won’t miss it on DVD.
Regardless of race, it seems like if you shoot someone who is unarmed it is either accidental or negligent homicide. At the very least.
Maybe he can get on with Breitbart’s website. Best of all he’d have job security. They never fired the idiots who put out that crminally edited Shirley Sherrod video and they did it JUST to be misleading.
This isn’t a story here. Phony outrage from the right wingnuts looking to win some sort of victory in this tragic murder.
Jay – the full Sherrod video was always there, with the original post, along with an explanation of how the story ends with her eventually doing the right thing. The real story was the audience happily agreeing with the first part of the story where she denies help because of the farmer’s race.
Don’t try to distract from NBC taking a 911 call and editing it on purpose to make it look like the shooter was racist.
And the first video Breitbart posted including Sherrod’s admission that she eventually helped the white farmer.
There is no evidence, none whatsoever, that Breitbart knew of the existence of the longer video, which anybody can find on Youtube. That long video supplied by the NAACP includes an edit. It may be been an innocent battery change, who knows? But it does include an edit.
Yeah, we’ll you don’t pull that shit when it’s an issue they can turn into a mini race war with other people getting killed in retribution.
If the producer remains unnamed, how do we know that he/she was, in fact, fired?
And why the anonymity?
Doesn’t the public deserve the right to know? If this person winds up on another news program or in another news organization, shouldn’t the public have the information necessary to look upon this person’s future work with appropriate skepticism?
Trust, violated.
Followed up by lack of transparency.
Way to go, NBC News.
“And why the anonymity? ”
Maybe they’re afraid Roseanne or Spike will tweet their address.
Horsesqueeze. NBC News lied when then aired their doctored soundbite, they are lying when they claim they have fired anyone over this. Until they name names, you have to assume they are once again lying in a blatant CYA maneuver.
I’m sure the NBC lawyers are playing it very careful. A case of malice aforethought could be argued.
Same thing happened at MSNBC. But it was so blatant there’s no way you can call it an accident.

An unarmed person who is strong and determined can kill a weaker person in about ninety seconds. If it is true – and I am saying if – Zimmerman was on his back getting his head beaten against the concrete, he was justified in using deadly force.
I have worked in the news biz as a producer for 30 years, part of that time at NBC. I can tell you that NBC is a company that manipulates content in an unethical fashion on a daily basis, calls it news, and does it all in a quest for ratings not as a public service. Let’s also be perfectly clear about one thing. When these kinds of scandals happen, it is always the producer who becomes the fall guy. This happened in the Peter Arnett scandal at CNN over a decade ago and it happened in the Dan Rather/George Bush 60 Minutes II scandal that first brought down the producer of the story (the attempt of execs to cover themselves) but eventually led to the firing of several of the higher echelon people including Rather, and the head of the news division along with several others. That producer at NBC most definitely had someone above them that reviewed the cut and okayed it for air. That is the way it is done. The reason the name is not released (I am going to guess) is that is part of their deal with the producer. In exchange, he or she won’t talk to the public. And for the historical record: the producer that got fired from CNN after Arnett tried to finger her so as to cover his ass eventually sued that network for beaucoup bucks.
It seems when it comes to news, all the capacities of NBC are entirely unable to answer one question: WHO DID IT?
I don’t usually like willy nilly firing, but this one is well deserved.
