When Netflix gets around to filming new episodes of Arrested Development — show creator Mitch Hurwitz says production will begin this summer — the streaming video service will release all 10 new segments at once, according to a report on Mashable. The new episodes will be released “sometime next year,” Netflix said last night at NAB in Las Vegas. The service is bringing back the Fox-Imagine series that was canceled in 2006 because of poor ratings, but the intense loyalty of the show’s fans convinced Hurwitz and Netflix it was worth another shot. New episodes will focus on a single individual character, Hurwitz told the audience, and would be similar to those from the past. He didn’t offer specifics about storyline. Netflix originally planned to present the show to subscribers during the first half of 2013. The timing is less certain now. Hurwitz also expressed hope it might be possible to produce an additional season if those initial 10 new segs prove successful. Netflix previously released all eight episodes of Lilyhammer, the company’s initial push into original programming and plans to bring it back for a second season.

Surely it makes more commercial sense to release one episode a week? If they release all 10 in one go then anyone subscribing just for the show could sign up for one month, watch them all and then cancel. At least if you stagger them weekly you’ve got them for 3 months, after which they my have discovered other shows/movies to hook them in and become long term subscribers.
Psh. Business strategy? Netflix?
That’s my thinking, as well. Putting them all up at once does nothing to grow the subscriber base in a long-term way.
i hope they dont do that with ‘House of Cards’ & ‘Hamlock Groove?’
seeing as those shows are more serial, plot lines would be leaked and the shows would be spoiled before anyone gets to see it.
+ isnt this a bad business move on netflix part as well, wouldnt you want to keep the subcribers for as long as possible??
Yahoo!!!
Um, no. Yahoo! is a different website….
What about the movie? Is the AD movie still on?
Steve Holt!
This is a great idea, I hate having to wait a week to watch my show. Its like reading a chapter of a book then being forced to wait a week to read the next chapter. When I watch shows on netflix I watch them back to back. When i am enjoying a story I hate being forced to wait especially if there is no good reason for the wait. I think this will be good for their business people will sign up for the show then stay for all the other shows they can watch as much as they want, in what order they want, when ever they want. I personally don’t watch tv anymore with the exception of Game of Thrones. all my media viewing is done on netflix or hulu.
