The presidential campaign battleground is in full swing on late night TV. GOP candidate Mitt Romney has done the Top Ten list on CBS’ Late Show With David Letterman and more recently visited NBC’s The Tonight Show With Jay Leno in March. Now President Obama is making his first visit on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on location from the campus of the University of North Carolina:
Fallon reads a fan’s Twitter question: …if Mitt Romney was in the room with you right now what would you say to him?
OBAMA: I would say, hey Mitt. How you doing?
FALLON: That’s pretty good. Do you know Mitt.
OBAMA: I have met him, but he, but we’re not friends. He seems like somebody who cares deeply about his family, and his wife is lovely.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Of course they are not friends. Mitt never bombed a police station or defended the Manson family, so the President would find him lacking.
Just saying.
Go watch more Fox Comedy instead of actual news. And I didn’t say watch MSNBC. Watch the nightly news on ABC, CBS or NBC. Watch PBS. Read a newspaper. Don’t give us lies from Fox.
Perhaps you might want to read a newspaper— actually learn something— and you might discover that Obama, TWICE, in the short time he was a U.S. Senator did not vote on Student Loans— the bullshit he is now spewing in Carolina and on Fallon.
NOT voting or voting “Present” is the bulk of Obama’s meager record in both the Illinois legislature and the U.S. Senate— the most slender resume of any American President in modern history.
Yet he’s still the American President. Shut up.
you are really not that savvy… dude…LOL
No, Mitt just was actively involved in a church that rejected black people as sons of Christ until well into the ’70s — only allowing black men to join the Mormon priesthood in 1978. Oh, and Mitt also laid off thousands of people as head of Bain. Great choice of a nominee in 2012!
Also, take a second to get your facts right. The Weather Underground never bombed a police station. If you’re going to make tired old Bill Ayers references, at least have the guts to do some research, you idiot.
You sir… are an idiot
Just saying’ what? That you’re an asshole? Duely noted.
Coming from a robot like you, any insult is a privilege. First, Bill Ayers and his buds bombed a police station and killed a cop. Second, Bernardine Dohrn, his wife, did defend the Manson family AFTER they killed Sharon Tate and all the rest. And who are they you ask? Friends of citizen Barack Obama and Senator Barack Obama. As President, he keeps them at arms length now.
Don’t believe me, check it out yourself. But as a leftist I’m sure you simply don’t care.
Don’t forget the New Black Panthers! They’re scary too!
LOL! You dinosaurs are pathetic.
Then, by your logic, Mitt supports polygamists and child-rapists.
You can give the Bill Ayers thing a rest now.
Obama’s connection to him is tenuous at best.
It’s a guilt-by-association game, and it can be played against any politician of stature who’s been around a few years, because part of their job is connecting with a wide strata of society.
Sounds like you’ve had the Fox News brain transplant, hope it works out for you.
WHY is the President doing a 12:30 AM show? Maybe he should stop by Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen.
Um… because the show does well with young people?
But, now that he has a record (instead of people projecting false greatness onto a then unknown), there’s no way young people are going to vote for him. He’s an empty suit and they know it. As Hillary said, “He gives (reads) a good speech.” That’s it.
Show doesn’t tape at 12:30…
and it filmed in NC, which is a swing state. I’m sure the students who got to participate in the taping liked the attention.
It doesn’t matter when the show airs on television once the clips hit YouTube.
You know, for someone who’s found their way to Deadline Hollywood, you’re showing a stunning lack of understanding about how and when Fallon’s target demo actually watches his show.
Because the young voters have all but abandoned him after he failed to keep all the promises he made in 08, and he knows he can’t win if they stay in their dorms playing Madden or getting laid instead of voting. With the corporate world, most of the middle class, and the flyover states all strongly swinging Mitt’s way, he’s going to need women, minority, and young voters to show up in force if he wants a second term. That he’s doing shows like Fallon is proof that his campaign manager isn’t the mouth breathing moron Carney and Verrilli seem to be.
Great to see our president hard at work. Did he do this show between fundraisers? What a freaking joke.
You sound like a Bruins fan
Anyone but Obama. Clinton, Paul, Romney I DONT CARE but anyone but this liar.
Now, now you don’t care if he’s a liar, it’s all about his having a nice tan. Romney has lied all over the place, as has Paul, Clinton too. They just happen to be white. You just happen to be racist. It’s really easy and obvious.
Curious, but what has he lied about?
Depends on whether or not you consider not keeping a campaign promise “lying.”
Which campaign promise would that be that wasn’t kept? Ending DADT, passing Obamacare, saving the auto industry, killing bin Laden, or ending the war in Iraq?
And before you scream Gitmo, Obama wanted to transfer those detainees to a prison in IL until the plan was blocked by guess who?
You suck.
It sucks that Conan isn’t getting any “presidential action,” so-to-speak.
Now that he’s no longer on a major network, nor has a hit show, why would he?
Damn you, Leno, damn you to hell!
Now that March Madness is over, and we got to see the President’s picks, it’s good to see he has found more important things to do, like appearing on late night talk shows. I miss the days when the President didn’t appear on talk shows. That used to be considered beneath the office. There are more important things to be done than yukking it up on a couch with a “comedian”. This is regardless of party affiliation. I remember that Bush went on Oprah. Why?
I blame the American public. When people are more likely to vote for a singer on ‘American Idol’ than they are to vote in an election, candidates have to resort to cheap stunts like this to reach out to the politically ignorant.
Few in America under 30 watch the news
When Obama slow jammed the news, I literally fell off my couch. What a great POTUS. The man’s untouchable, and they still don’t have an answer to him even after McCain’s CRUSHING defeat in ’08. And Romney’s even LESS popular than McCain was! Hence the RACIST, right-wing frustration. Which, of course, is music to my ears.
It was funny to hear Fallon say that “We don’t take sides here on Late Night,” when in fact Quest and the Roots played “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” as Michelle Bachmann’s walk-out music last year. Oops! LOL.
Conservatives suck.
Of course anyone who doesn’t like the president has to be racist. That’s the sort of ignorant statement that spread stereotypes about your race. Most politicians are liars and its not like Obama is the first one to use lies to get elected, but that doesn’t make it okay. And just because black people are a minority does not mean that they get a free pass on racism. In 2008, 95%+ of black people in this country voted for Obama. The same can not be said for white people voting for the candidate of their color. It’s 2012, not 1955. Racism is played up more by the news than by the actual normal people who live in our society and don’t really care what color someone is. Oh, and just to be clear, just because I do not support Obama does not mean that I think McCain would have been a better choice nor do I think Romney will be any better. Obama was too inexperienced to run this country. 2 years as a senator. He should have waited until 2016 or 2020. He’s not the only one to make such a mistake though. Its looking more and more like Marco Rubio will end up making the same one. Also, Ron Paul does not lie like the rest. He speaks the truth even when its not what people want to hear, and there I believe there is a bigger stigma as a Ron Paul supporter than there is if you are a hard working black man.
Hey Art, nice post but guess what?
You’re racist.
Like all of your ilk, you gloss over Dr. Paul’s racist newsletters as you fall all over yourself to support him.
I rest my case.
If there were a single takeaway from the HBO special Game Change about Sarah Palin, it was this.
America elects celebrities not politicians for their ideas and skills.
Sadly, this is true. And, I am one of the oldsters who believes the President should be doing his job rather than appearing and performing on late night talk shows. Sure, it is a big election, but where does being elected at any cost enhance the office or the country?
Also, this story has elicited some very heated dialogue. Folks, may I suggest that we can have differing ideas, disagree with each other, and not be so nasty in the dialogue.
It’s smart to do shows like this where voters can see and hear the president and he can define himself. The “news” is so skewed and biased now, especially at the Fox Propaganda Channel where anti-Democratic distortion is the order of the day, that allowing the media to define who you are is a huge mistake.
