Counting. The. Seconds.
Is it weird that I am now more excited to see Prometheus than The Dark Knight Rises? I guess it’s not too weird because this trailer is badass!
By the time this and TDKR comes out everyone is going to be saying ‘What the f*ck is an Avenger?’
I am thinking the same thing. Hopefully, both of Prometheus and The Dark Knight Rises turn out amazing!
I can’t wait to see Dark Knight Rises, but this is the movie of the summer for me.
How the hell is this NOT going to be rated R? I absoultely cannot wait to see this!!!
Oh, HELL, yes!
I was given a heads-up by critic/blogger Damon Houx that this trailer is too revealing. But, being a curious fan of the rare sci-fi gem, I started watching. I think I figured too much out already by about 2/3 of the way through and stopped watching.
Totally agree with “Nerd” comment above: This movie looks like it’s going to be more amazing than any of the comic bookers this summer, despite the 4 billion gross that Avengers is about to pull in.
What do you have against comics? You know comics can be science fiction as well. Nothing wrong with this movie either. But the snide and snobbish way people turn up their noses at movies based on comics continually is annoying. Like you can’t stand the fact that these little funny page books are things people want to see.
I say there’s room for everything. The Avengers, Prometheus, even Dark Knight Rises. You can like it all.
Dear Marvel historian,
When people say films based on comic books are generally crap they are not criticizing the comic book form of storytelling they are simply saying that the films are crap. Of course good films inspired by comic books can be made like C. Nolan’s Batman films, but most people are not Nolan and most films based on cb are not good. No disrespect to comic books!
Geezers Rule!
I agree that the trailer gave away too much of the film. The more they show of it, actually, the less I want to see. It’s looking more and more like a re-tread of all the other ALIEN movies.
I stopped watching it half way through. I thought it looks so good so far why spoil it? There seems to be a tendency these days to tell the WHOLE story in the trailer. I find this appalling. The trailer is supposed to tease us, make us curious, not show us a mini version of the film.
If anyone making trailers is reading this please stop ruining films, the audience wants to be surprised!
In. 100% in.
Awesome. The international trailers are always so much better than the trailers made for American audiences. Why is that?
Because studios assume, and rightly so, that american audiences are stupid and they pander to a lower common denominator.
Maybe there are more creative types involved in making trailers overseas than marketing types. Any trailer makers visit here to say for sure?
They put more scenes in the international trailers they are usually 40 seconds to a minute longer so you get more of the plot.
Generally, American trailers emphasize plot. International audiences have higher tolerance for intrigue (vs confusion) so int’l trailers tend to play more to story through vibe and tone.
International trailers usually run up to 2 minutes, shorter than their American counterparts which run up to 2’30.” In the UK trailers over 2 mins typically won’t get played in a cinema. This particular trailer was produced for a well publicized on-air broadcast, which is why it runs over 2 minutes.
Still no sign of Guy Pearce & he’s billed 3rd. Interesting.
He’s in the behind the scenes clip on the side of this website he plays Peter Weyland but I don’t think he goes into space with them. Charlize is the Paul Reiser character the greedy corporate yuppie who has her hidden agenda to exploit the alien species for Weyland. The trailer really does give a lot of the story away but it’s great.
Fox is being stupid by not releasing it as “Alien: Prometheus” the Alien name is valuable and they are losing money by not using it. They certainly used the valuable name in “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” it would have been stupid to release that movie titled “Caesar” which is what it was developed as.
Was I the only one the thought the 6 ancient civilizations they mention were on a different planet than earth?
You were not alone. It’s amazing how dialogue gets slice and diced for spots and trailers.
It does look a little “Alien.”
Yeah, I’m starting to have my doubts. The less is more approach has worked thus far on these campaigns, but now seeing a lot of the same ALIEN movie beats in this trailer is killing my buzz.
Alien remake or Alien 5? Nothing original in Holywood anymore. I am having doubts about the director’s fame.
LOL @ that schmuck who tried to pet that Cobra looking alien. What a freaking schmuck. If I saw that thing I wouldn’t try to pet it. I’d probably say, “Kill it with fire!”
Don’t think I’ve been more excited about a film ever. And that’s saying a lot.
Looks amazing, but here’s my one problem: if this is a prequel, then the technology in the film should be at the level of many years prior to the first Alien movie. How cool would it be to reference that, to have the same sort of computers/graphics as that first Alien, to retrofit the CGI to that world. My only beef.
Legitimate beef and one that Sir Ridley has addressed directly in press – not withstanding he pioneered the ‘futuristic grunge’ with BLADE RUNNER and didn’t want to do that again, this is not a mining ship and crew ala ALIEN hence the technology is not as gritty and bleak.
Great trailer. I haven’t been this thrilled to see a new flick since I saw the first Aliens trailer years ago. Taps into some of our deepest fears. Just watch the news a few nights and there’s no doubt there’s more intelligent life out there. That, plus Google et al planning to tap into and mine asteroids. It’s going to be a good summer for movies.
Patiently wating….
Not only does it look a little “Alien” it looks like exactly the same plot — including humans discovering “eggs” and “facehuggers”, etc. at the same site as the original.
I liked it when it was called Alien … in 1979.
Looks good but you’re right Mark, seems like a clear a remake of Alien. Certainly contains most of the same beats. A little disappointing.
I see they found someone to do Yaphet Kotto’s part.
looks like fun summer movie, but the whole “Alien” vibe is so obvious. How is this not a remake? Right down to the questionable corporate suit and life like robot.
I’m with ‘Truth’ and the “kill it with fire” comment. Wasn’t expecting that at all. Clips like that one make me think the story will vary enough from the original to make it really great. Even though it’s been stated “Prometheus” isn’t a pre-quel, some kind of continuity between all the films is to be expected.
