EXCLUSIVE: Sundance Channel has assembled most of the regular cast of its first hourlong scripted series, legal drama Rectify. Abigail Spencer, Clayne Crawford, Adelaide Clements, Jonah Lotan and J. Smith Cameron are set to co-star in the six-episode series, written by Ray McKinnon and executive produced by Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein. Rectify centers on Daniel Holden who, after 19 years in prison, is released from Death Row when he is exonerated for rape and murder by DNA evidence. He returns to his hometown where he must readjust to his new life, including unfamiliar family members and surroundings. Cameron will play Daniel’s mother. Spencer will play his sister. Crawford will play his step-brother Ted. Clements will play Ted’s wife. Lotan will play Daniel’s lawyer, who works for the non-profit Justice Row. Spencer, repped by ICM and Untitled, will next be seen in Of Men And Mavericks and The Haunting In Georgia. Crawford, repped by APA, is recurring on FX’s Justified and will next be seen in the feature Baytown Disco.

One of the top pilots ever written Ray McKinnon knows his $%#!
If, for dramatic purposes, this series begins to flirt with the idea that the protagonist may in fact have actually committed the crimes in spite of the DNA evidence to the contrary (as I’ve heard it eventually will), this show will knock the capital punishment abolitionist movement back a step. A small step, yes, but any step backwards is nonetheless a serious one, certainly to the innocent men and women on death rows across the country. I hope the filmmakers understand the potential ramifications here.
Clayne is a great actor and deserves to be seen. I’m proud of you, bud.
Abigail is great. Worked with her recently and a true professional, sweet person and really talented actress. Keep an eye on this one folks.
So the main character hasn’t been cast yet? This is something that irks me a lot of times about casting. When you have a project featuring a main character who has a family and the family is cast first. That means you now have to cast an actor who actually looks like he could be related to the actors you already have. And that limits the potential actors who can be up for the role.
I feel the lead character should be cast first and the family members should be cast around the actor who is chosen.
or, the lead’s contract isn’t done and there for cannot be announced.
The premise sounds great. The casting looks spot on.
Skeet Ulrich, as the lead. If you watched CSI NY, heplays a great baddy. In JERICHO he played a good flawed good guy.
You could say that Clayne Crawford IS recurring in The Glades, he WAS recurring in Justified, though. Can’t use present tense for Justified.
I think Stan Houston would make an excellent Sheriff for this series. Powerful actor with not that much experience.
