The last new comedy series of the broadcast season, ABC’s Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, premiered last night to an OK 2.9/7 in adults 18-49 behind Modern Family (4.1/11), which returned to originals after a three-week hiatus down 9% to a season now. Don’t Trust was slightly higher than the premiere of Happy Endings in the slot last spring (2.7/7 with a 3.8/10 Modern Family lead-in) and lower than the debut of the now-defunct Mr. Sunshine in the time period last February (3.7/10 with a 5.0/13 lead-in from Modern Family). In the 8 PM hour, The Middle (2.1/7) and Suburgatory (2.1/6) were flat with their most recent originals. At 10 PM, a Revenge clip show posted a 1.6/4.
Fox’s American Idol (4.9/14, 16.4 million) was up 4% in the demo from the fast national for the performance show last week (flat with the final) to deliver another nightly win for the network in 18-49 and total viewers. CBS’ Survivor: One World (2.6/8) was down a tenth from last week’s fast national to post the show’s lowest rating ever for a regularly-scheduled original. Criminal Minds (3.0/8) was flat, while CSI (2.3/6) dropped 21% after a 12% jump last week.
There was no Twitter boost for Betty White, who joined the micro-blogging service this week, promoting her NBC show. Betty White’s Off Their Rockers (1.6/5) dipped 11% from the fast national for its official premiere last week. In its second airing, new comedy series Best Friends Forever (0.9/3) took a 25% dive as did Rock Center with Brian Williams (0.6/2) in its fourth scheduling move back to Wednesday 9 PM. Both BFF and Rock Center drew less than 3 million viewers — 2.94 million and 2.75 million, respectively — to rank as the lowest-rated and least-watched programs on the Big 4 networks. (Rock Center once again fell behind Fox News’ O’Reilly Factor). Closing out the night, Law & Order: SVU (1.6/4) was flat with its last two originals. For the night, NBC averaged a 1.1/3 in 18-9, behind Spanish-language Univision (1.4/4).

when you have a show off the air for 4 of the last 6 week you can’t expect everyone to just come running back… i love modern family but in the spring i get used to it not being on and find other things to do…
the networks really need to come up with a better programming strategy. a month between new episodes just doesn’t cut it. either order more episodes, shorten the season, just run the shows beginning to end… have two shows fill one slot… something better than this
I agree with you, and definitely don’t understand why they’ll have a new episode of one show on, but then reruns of three others. It used to be you’d tune into a block of shows, now I need a calendar site just to keep track.
I just watched this show on my pvr. I have to say I wasn’t sure when I saw the previews, but I actually really enjoyed it. I just hope they downplay Dawson throughout the rest of the season as his schtick could get old.
“Don’t Trust the B__” is just dreadful. I did my duty – I watched the whole thing. “Happy Endings” it ain’t.
Nice try, ABC. Now take the this show and go away.
ABC botched the launch of Dint Trust The B by not only delaying but debuting at a time where viewers are expecting reruns of favorite shows. The show is leaps and bounds superior to the now cancelled Work It
Considering how low ratings were for every the network in the last two weeks, I’d say a 2.9 is a damn respectable premier for B—-, a new comedy I actually laughed at. And not ironically, which isn’t something I can say about most new comedies this season.
Unfortunately, execs are in denial about this. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read one or the other from the various networks giving interviews stating, “If the show is good, they will stick around and wait. They’ll come back when we are back on.”
NO. THIS DOES NOT WORK. CONTINUING TO SAY IT DOES NOT MAKE IT SO.
But, then again, they probably only care about their salary and bonuses. They’ll ride the Merry Go’Round collecting as much candy as they can until someone kicks them off.
Been looking forward to “The Bitch” since liking the script when it first sold. It seems to have all the right pieces but it just feels fake. There was an AT&T commercial during the act break about an innocent young girl in the city who gets her first one-line acting job that had more heart than “The Bitch”. I’m rooting for this show because it’s smartly written. Hope it doesn’t veer into Happy Endings territory where every character speaks like a comedy writer.
CBS has these tired old shows csi new York and csi Miami , not to mention criminal minds !! Can’t believe they picked them up ????? They did not pick up :unforgettable ” what are they thinking ?
Saw it last night and hated every moment which means it will last 5 seasons.
Loved Don’t Trust The B—- and look forward to the rest of the season!
And the downward spiral for Nbc continues.Seriously, with every ratings report Nbc gets closer & closer to CW type numbers. It’s going to be quite a challenge for any new Nbc pilots in the fall. Just based on Nbc’s current reputation among viewers. Many viewers will not watch any new Nbc pilots come September, because, either we will automatically think they will suck (based on their current line-up) ,or, if it’s actually a worthy pilot-we won’t waste our time watching because they may cancel it. Nbc is such a mess! Also, you mentioned the Revenge clip show. Of course Abc had to have a clip show-it feels like ages since Revenge was on with a new episode. If the numbers for Revenge are low next week, Abc has noone to blame but themselves. This hiatus crap is getting old fast. Take a page from cable’s notebook.Either start the season later, shorten the season ,or, have a shorter mini-season. Having a hiatus all over the place is killing network shows.
And Jennifer, you can see how NBC just wants to forget this season ever happened, as they got saddled with God-awful programming from Bromstad and the previous regime that NBC had no choice but to air but no excuse for Greenbladt to take the bull by the horn and knowing he needs to deliver a stellar upfront next month or it could mean his job as head of NBC. Comcast can only be so patient with him and the way he is running that network right now. The CW is hopeless and ABC just keeps bringing in shows that make absolutely no sense whatsoever. They mean well, but the concepts all come out flat in scope. The three hiatuses was what killed off Pan Am.
“savydude…you said it best. “Bitch”is just God awful bad That Ritter girl belongs on NBC’s remake of the “Munsters… so you go out for coffe and when you return they’ve sold all your furniture.???Please. What? a garage sale on W. 59th street? all in a matter of 1 hour?? . The whole show is ridiculous.
That happened to my mom waaaaay back when before she met my dad: Left her apt. in the care of a ‘friend’ for a few days, came back and people were carting away the last of her furniture. Seems the person in question posted a moving sale notice that morning.
If only my mom hadn’t come back a few hours early! (or had gotten there earlier!)
Two Broke girls is better.
Go back to more multi-cams. Sure B– might (look better)
but I’ll take a multi-cam with good writing anyday.
But 2 Broke Girls doesn’t have good writing. Every bloody joke is either tired shtick about indie kids and hipsters or tired innuendo. The only thing that carries it through is the charm of the leads (Beh Behrs more than Kat).
Apt 23 was pretty funny. Nothing life changing, maybe not as good as Suburgatory, but still funny.
Can NBC just give it up with Rock Center already as they’ve moved that show so many times over, it’s not even funny anymore. The show is finished and with ratings like that, does NBC not have a clue to just pull the damn thing once and for all? As for the B in APT 23 on ABC, this rating was nothing more than a curiosity item due to the hype ABC put behind it, but expect ratings to fall in the next few weeks ahead and won’t last past May. I also believe Betty White’s run at NBC might be about over as well as Univision is kicking their tails in the ratings now.
Renew Happy Endings! Its the best show of the night!
Nobody will care or talk or hype about Bitch the way they do about Happy Endings. Its one of the best sitcoms on the air.
