EXCLUSIVE: Roadside Attractions co-president Howard Cohen has closed a deal to acquire North American rights to Branded. The plan is for a nationwide theatrical release this September. Lionsgate has home entertainment, VOD and other ancillary rights through their output deal. The film’s described as a dark and mind-bending journey into a surreal, dystopian society where corporate brands have unleashed a monstrous global conspiracy to get inside our minds and keep the population disillusioned, dependent and passive. One man’s (Ed Stoppard) passion to unlock the truth behind the conspiracy will lead to an epic battle with the hidden forces that really control our world.
The film was written, produced and directed by Jamie Bradshaw and Alexander Doulerain, two marketing executives. Bradshaw co-founded Ignition Creative, a Hollywood-based creative advertising agency, while Doulerain is chief creative officer of one of Russia’s most popular TV Networks, TNT. The film stars Stoppard, Leelee Sobieski, Jeffrey Tambor, Ingeborga Dabkunaite and Max Von Sydow. ”We’re excited to release Jamie Bradshaw and Alexander Doulerain’s mind-bending, futuristic thriller Branded, which is a kind of film we haven’t done before,” said Cohen.
Bradshaw said the film is informed by his core business. “The most powerful weapon on earth today is not a gun or a disease, nor is it even visible to many,” he said. “It is marketing. Marketing is the power to control your desires and change your mind, and if you look closer there is something about it that is not of this earth.” Alexander says, “I worked for many years in marketing and have to say as fantastical as the plot of our movie might seem it is as real as it gets.”
Cassian Elwes and Dean Cheley for Barbossa Production S.A. rep the filmmakers.

I saw a rough cut of this film early on, it’s awesome. Brands taking on a monstrous life of their own, consuming us as we consume them. Frightening, surreal, satirical, disturbing… gives you lots to think about… not like any other film out there. A monsters of marketing movie, brilliant.
Seems like a really cool idea for a movie – especially considering the filmmakers’ background. And love this kind of release strategy for this kind of film, worked so well for Margin Call… looking forward to what they come up with for the trailer on a marketing movie. Should be pretty trippy.
i beg to differ ntucker…
I too saw a rough cut and it was one of the all time stinkers. I’m not trying to be nasty, but this movie has been collecting dust on some shelf for years
I’ve seen this film, and it is without a doubt a true original. It’s a mind-bending, genre-bending, mindf**k movie that will keep you guessing what insanity is going to happen next.
“…a surreal, dystopian society where corporate brands have unleashed a monstrous global conspiracy to get inside our minds and keep the population disillusioned, dependent and passive.”
So it’s a documentary!
I’ve watched this film and it truly is like nothing i’ve ever seen. Drawing from their experience in marketing, the filmmakers have created a mind bending, fantastic world where marketing and brands are revealed to be more than we thought. In the time of occupy wall street and growing cynicism to corporations, this film could be a zeitgeist sort of thing — A Night of the Living dead for a new generation. This film entertains while exploring some big, important ideas. Glad to see it’s getting a big release.
Wow cool idea. Can’t wait to see what this film is really like. Gonna check this one out.
