“The plan is for me to join the NBC family and continue to have a role at the E! network” where he anchors E! News, Ryan Seacrest told Today host Matt Lauer this morning. (Comcast controls NBCUniversal as well as E!.) The Olympics assignment is “something I’ve been looking forward to.” As for rumors that Seacrest might replace Lauer on the morning show, Seacrest said “I don’t know. I see you doing this for as long as you want to.” Lauer added that Seacrest “would be great at this job….There is no tension here.” No details about the Idol agreement, extending his contract which expires after this season. ”I’ll have an official announcement very soon.” In addition to his work with NBC, E! and Idol, Seacrest hosts a daily morning radio show for Clear Channel. Seacrest was originally scheduled to appear yesterday on Today but said that he had elbow surgery after tearing a tendon.

YEP. Cause’ when i think sports, i think Ryan Seacrest.
Can he please STAY in London like, forever.
The Brits have more than enough of their own phony suck-ups and brown-noser’s, no way they’d want to keep Seacrest around…
That guy is a like a disease – he’s EVERYWHERE.
I’ll just watch the BBC’s coverage on BBC America – no need to watch NBC’s.
NBC has exclusive rights to the Olympics in the United States, so if you want to watch any actual events, then you have to tune to one of the NBC family of channels. BBC America cannot simulcast or re-transmit BBC coverage like it does for five of the Six Nations games because it does not have the rights to do so.
The only Olympics coverage you’ll see on BBC America is any results that are discussed on BBC News, which only airs early in the morning.
Agreed. NBC, why don’t you get Marv Albert to host The Voice finale while you’re at it?
Ryan should get a Gold Medal! He is pure Hollywood Gold.
I didn’t get his allure initially – but once he grew on me- I look forward to anything he is hosting.
Well hopefully he’s replacing Bob Costas -LOL. Hes the worst. And I hope they get rid of those awful- pseudo tearjerker stories. They’re never interesting. and Ryan stop the botox your forehead is getting long- and your getting that plastic look
Joe, they’re NOT going to get rid of the “pseudo tearjerker stories”. The very HIRING of Seacrest for the Olympics means NBC is UPPING the tearjerker quotient.
I doubt we’ll see Ryan calling the Men’s 300M Butterfly… But we will see him relating some “heartfelt/heartwarming” stories/bio packages. It’s one of the things he does best on the early episodes of Idol every year.
Whether or not he EVER means it, Seacrest has not lost the ability to at least “act” like he cares.
I’ll never forget during the last winter Olympics, when they ran this inspiration story about a girl right before she ran the women’s GS, and right after the story ended, she went on to DQ on the first gate. I think I laughed for five minutes straight.
Plastic look for a plastic guy.
Ryan will be doing the special segments focusing on “The Bottom Three” athletes in each event competition.
Unfortunately, he will have no judges to provide a ‘save’ for an athlete.
Should be a real heart stopper.
I am sure he will find a way to work the Kardashians into his coverage. I guess the E network is taking over NBC with this and the regular appearances of Guiliana and her husband. Again, where is the news and real entertainment these programs used to feature. Seacrest is not a journalist, but, that does not seem to matter.
That interview was also bizarre and uncomfortable to watch especially since they both probably know that Seacrest is being groomed to take over for Lauer. E Network total domination in the making.
absolutely detest this guy! when came to E! i knew it was ime for me to go..egomaniac to the max. by comcast coming in and disrupting nbc news, it will soon derail. what a shame, and sad for a network like nbc to prostitute itself with these add ons, ryan, the bush girl, clinton…please enough, there are so many excellent journos out there…why? and lets not get started on sarah palin…
ryan seacrest is so money hungry he should be ashamed..i think his drive for money is even greater than his ego…or is it like what came first the taste of money or the ego…food for thought my friends
OMG…is there no brain power at NBC anymore? No, no there is not. I’d rather have Charlie Sheen or Lindsay Lohan host than Seacrest. HOW does he keep getting jobs? Anybody run a Q on him? Bet it is not good.
Should be interesting if they ask him to throw, run or jump because he can’t.
BBC America only, NBC just lost viewers.
Yet again, I must repeat that the Olympics will NOT be airing on BBC America. I’ll repeat what I wrote in reply to an earlier response, since it appears you did not read it:
NBC has exclusive rights to the Olympics in the United States, so if you want to watch any actual events, then you have to tune to one of the NBC family of channels. BBC America cannot simulcast or re-transmit BBC coverage like it does for five of the Six Nations games because it does not have the rights to do so.
The only Olympics coverage you’ll see on BBC America is any results that are discussed on BBC News, which only airs early in the morning.
Ryan will bring a refreshing take on the Olympic games. NBC’s coverage has gotten a bit stale. I’m always happy for Ryan’s success – as is his entire Fox and Idol family. He is a great guy who probably works harder than anyone in the business.
Whoever is running NBC should be fired immediately. They doctor 911 calls, set people up and forgot they are in the entertainment business.
Next we’ll hear they’ve added Keith Olbermann to the Olympic telecasts. Geez.
Seacrest’s allure is his plain vanilla yogurt persona. No drama and he shows up to work on time. Still, not a great choice for the London Olympics.
This is the bastard that gave us the Kardashians. He should be drawn and quartered.
he is THE hardest working man in hollywood. Say what you want about him, love him or hate him, you can’t say the man doesn’t hustle.
I’d hate to see what his calendar looks like. Waking up at 7am and phoning in a 9 hour day is hard enough for me. I couldn’t imagine.
No one’s saying he doesn’t work hard – but that’s the best thing anyone can say about him. He’s an entertandroid.
Exactly, but surprisingly the warm and cuddly kind.
It is fun to watch the Seacrest branding expand. Have no idea where it is going except ‘all things Ryan?’.
But, you have to give the man his props. Ryan Seacrest does bust his ass.
It’s easy to bust your ass when everyone always says yes and they overpay the shit out of you. Bust your ass when you can’t get a break and no one returns your calls, that’s hard.
This is so pathetic and artificial for NBC to do this. The Olympics don’t need Ryan Seacrest. These will be the worst games ever. London is a terrible location. I’m looking forward to Brazil four years from now.
Damn! I use to enjoy watching the Olympics. Oh well I’ll be watching baseball this year. NBC’s coverage was poor to begin with and now it got worse. I know they have to appeal to the casual fans but they just turned off the real sports fans.
So, he kicks Dick Clark to the curb a few years ago (yeah, yeah, yeah, stroke. I know). He got himself inserted into E! everything. Now he’s going to muscle out Bob Costas? Will he not be happy until he’s hosting EVERYTHING on TV?
Don’t care that he’s hard-working. That’s a given since he gets just about every plum TV job that comes up. Reasonable people would be happy with a radio show OR a job hosting “American Idol” OR producing for the E Channel. But, no, he gets everything. And now he’s Lauer’s heir apparent on “The Today Show.” Really? He sucked filling in for Larry King. Why in God’s name would anyone think he could handle interviewing on NBC’s signature morning show? Next thing you know he’ll be starring on Broadway AND anchoring “NBC Nightly News.” And why the hell not? He isn’t especially suited for anything else he does and no one’s stopping him.
I used to find him annoying…until…Carson Daily started hosting THE VOICE. I’ll take Seacrest over that nerdy bobble-head any day.
