Has Simon Cowell blinked? With BBC One’s The Voice UK steadily gaining on Cowell’s Britain’s Got Talent over on ITV, the latter network will step out of the line of fire for upcoming episodes. Beginning April 21, BGT will kick off 30 minutes later than it has for the past several weeks, and 10 minutes after The Voice ends. ITV originally set a challenge to The Voice when it moved BGT ahead several weeks so the two shows would debut on the same night. This had followed an earlier bidding war in which both networks were vying for broadcast rights to The Voice. BGT also brought back Cowell as a judge this year in a widely touted move.
As I reported on Tuesday, although BGT’s ratings were originally ahead of The Voice, the BBC One show beat BGT in the overall ratings for the first time this past Saturday and has been steadily adding viewers over its three frames. Key however is the fact that the shows only overlapped for a 20-minute period with The Voice airing from 7-8:20pm and BGT from 8-9:20pm. It’s that 20-minute space where The Voice has soared past BGT each week, most recently averaging 10 million viewers against 6.2 million for BGT. Of the scheduling shift, an ITV spokesman said: “At its peak, 11.9 million people watched Britain’s Got Talent this weekend; the highest recorded audience figure on any channel so far this month,” adding, “By moving to 20:30 BST, we are ensuring that as many people as possible have the opportunity to watch the show in full.”

Yep, he blinked. Let’s hope they’re thinking ahead on what to do with X-Factor so they don’t see the big declines they saw this last cycle. Here’s a start, get some bigger names! You can’t replace Cheryl with the likes of Tulisa or Not Beyonce, I mean Kelly Rowland.
I hope NBC does the same thing and moves the Voice to Tuesdays — there’s no reason it needs to go up against dancing with the stars when there is zero reality competition on Tuesdays and Tuesdays is where it started. NBC YOU NEED A NUMBER 1 Hit in both viewers and demo and you have lost 50 percent of both being on mondays opposite the strong cbs comedies and dancing — causing all of you to lose, but the voice has lost more and nbc, you are not in that good a shape to be programming aggressively when you don’t win any nights.
Only for that 20 minute period or whatever BUT they beat em’! I agree with JJ. X-factor needs much, much bigger names. Cheryl can’t be replaced by second or third rate singers. American Idol is already dropping by leaps & bounds. If X factor doesn’t get a big name on the same scale as Cheryl- Could they be next?
I am not a real faithful fan of Britians got talent. I have friends the tell me to watch a particular show because some of the talant is exceptional in their opinion. To clarify a bit, I am not a big TV fan of any particular show. I read and do paper work for my job in the evenings. I will admit what I see I usually enjoy. The Voice doesn’t keep my attention at all. I sometimes feel uncomfortable for the contestants. I’m really not sure why, I think they don’t get the respect of the judges. (Their comments seem rehearsed and fake) I don’t see that on Brition’s got talent or American idol. I will admit I don’t watch many shows from beginning to end. (Maybe Blue Blood)
It seems Simon gets a lot of grief from folks, I like that he does not have a problem giving his opinion, and most folks I know agree. They might not always agree with him but respect that he doesn’t have a problem sharing his suggestions and critizims on TV.
I should say here I am a human services employee, many of my frinds have some theater expeience and are avid fans and critic of most kind of theater. I think I will end here, I think I’m rambling and not saying anything significant. Whatever Simon hopes to do or does regarding the time of the show I suspect it is for for the good on the show. I wish this information sharing post had spell check.
