Was it a joke Spielberg directed Lasercats or did he really direct it?
Spielberg directs all of the Lasercats videos. He gets paid $20 for each, and he spends that on his competing “Laserdogs” web series, starring Danny Trejo and Tommy Wiseau.
They insist on saying that Tobe Hooper directed Laser Cats, but you can tell it was actually Spielberg.
The whole point of Space Cats is that it sucks. For fuck’s sake people.
Oh for heaven’s sake. Spielberg has kids. I’m sure when SNL called to ask, his kids forced him to do it. He’s great and not so self-seriousl
It was worth it just to see Spielberg clutching a clunky VHS tape.
Sad? Desperate? C’mon. Speilberg’s in his 60s, having some stupid fun. Good for him.
I thought the Spielberg was great and the skit was hilarious. It’s awesome to see someone who has been in the industry for so long who still has a sense of humor and clearly loves what he does. I don’t understand the negative headline and it seems Deadline has severe jealousy issues. Take a chill pill please. And Steven you are awesome. Ignore the haters. They are just bitter because they have no creative abilities whatsoever.
I thought it was hysterical. Best shot though was how they gave a tip of the hat to Lucas in the troopers marching by while they crouch around the corner. My biggest concern: if they changed all the laser cats back to regular cats in “7″, how can they have “Laser Cats 8″ ? Bring in Christopher Nolan for a whole new approach where he does a “Scorseseian” cameo! (BTW, where can I get a “Laser Cats” baseball hat?)
sorry, nikke. it was stupid but funny. what else are you expecting? and dissing on spielberg? i mean, come on… this guy has pretty much everything there is to do as a filmmaker. so what if he’s not as groundbreaking as he used to be. he still is one of the finest filmmakers this town has ever known. and a really sweet guy, too.
I thought the L in SNL stood for “live.”
Oh well….
“Catch me if you can, the terminal!” “Always!” I thought it was pretty funny.
He didn’t “cameo” several times. He did a sketch. And it was funny.
It was classic silly SNL. Loved it!
This is the most talented cast of SNL ever. Sorry old school Belushi-loving farts but it it.
I love Laser Cats and getting spielberg made it even funnier. But LC is not for everyone.
The Laser Cats skits always divide the room, but I think they’re hilarious. They’re *meant* to look cheap and cheesy – that’s the whole point. And rather than consider Spielberg “desperate,” I give him big props for being a good sport and having a sense of humor about it.
Loved seeing the silly side of Steve. Thought it was hilarious!
I thought it was really funny and he acted very well. Lorne acts well too. Not sure where all this negativity is coming from.
Right on the money there. Totally desperate. Word is the man has even been reduced to working with lesser talents like Daniel Day-Lewis. Can a humbling appearance on “Celebrity Apprentice” be far behind?
Seriously, come on, is Steven Spielberg not allowed to have a sense of humor? Good for him for having a bit of fun at his own expense. I thought it was a funny bit.
All you need to realize is that everything that was spoofed was something Spielberg made 20 years or more ago. What does that say?
Oh come on… it’s funny!!!!
Oh come on… it’s funny!!!!
I honestly loathe the “lasercats” sketches. They are not clever and are just another lame excuse for SNL to make tired pop cultural references in the place of jokes. Hader and Samberg are talented but it is clear that they are having way more fun making LC shorts than anyone is that has to sit through them.
