EXCLUSIVE: Ahead of its upfront presentation tonight, Syfy has picked up five new reality series, including Hot Set, an offshoot from the network’s hit competition series for makeup artists Face Off. Hot Set, which comes from the producers of Face Off, will have Hollywood production designers facing off in creating original movie sets. Also on tap are new reality series Paranormal Highway and Ghost Mine, the latest additions to Syfy’s formidable roster of paranormal-themed unscripted fare, which includes recently announced haunted schools series School Spirits, which premieres in June.
Paranormal Highway stars Jack Osbourne and Dana Workman who investigate claims of paranormal activity along America’s remote back roads. The 51 Minds-produced Ghost Mine is set at a recently reopened Oregon gold mine. Syfy’s reality series slate also includes a show from Jersey Shore executive producer Sally Ann Salsano. Viral Video Showdown features viral video creators competing for cash prizes. Rounding out Syfy’s upcoming reality offerings is Collection Intervention, which features a collectibles expert helping couples decide what to do with their collections. Here are detailed descriptions of Syfy’s newly picked up reality series:

You cancel Eureka to make room for this crap. I am disappointed in you Syfy.
all i gotta say is….
…SIGH-fy
Boo! I want to see more original scripted genre programming on Syfy and less uninspired reality programming.
Not interested in any of these…More actual scripted programming and less “ghost” hunting. It’s not exciting or scary, just boring and uninspired. Does SyFy feel like they have to do this to keep up with other networks or are the exec’s just lazy?
they do it because the person in charge of the network doesnt actually like science fiction…
I agree with above…you cancel awesome shows like Eureka to make room for more reality crap. No thank you!
I couldn’t agree more!
Really? Well-written and acted shows like Sanctuary and Haven don’t even have announced return dates–are they even coming back? You kill off Eureka!, as well as the Stargate franchise and put this crap on? You’ll just keep losing viewers like me if you keep this up!
Here! Here! SyFy has been one of the bright spots on TV because there’s always been something to anticipate watching. Although, the seasons are short, we get well written and imaginative story lines like the afore mentioned Haven and Sanctuary, and the new, imported Lost Girl. I hope the Being Human story line doesn’t go the way of the British version. I don’t watch pseudo reality shows on broadcast TV, either. The commercials for them show “conspiracies” and asides to the camera. Really?? Just because the SyFy reality shows seem to have a paranormal element, that won’t be enough get me to watch.
i hate to say but sanctuary will not be coming back on their canceled
it and do not know then haven will be back on,their take good shows off the air and put reality shows on what is wronght with syfy have their lost their minds
5 new reality shows??? I second Mike’s comment, I’m very disappointed!!! I use to watch about 5 shows a week on SyFy, after Eureka, I think there’s only 1 I’ll watch, Sanctuary.
Somewhere there are very disappointed rookie viper pilots.
Why do people continue to support syfy? They have the worst reality series and their movies are less than D movie grade.
Come on – Face Off is a really well produced reality competition show. Plus these reality shows costs a fraction of scripted series. Syfy would be out of business if it had to rely purely on expensive scripted shows all the time.
” well produced reality competition show” pretty much means that what you see is either an altered view of actual events or a complete fabrication thereof
LOL too funny SyFy. This is why I no longer watch your network. Completely uninspired TV.
The death spiral of Syfy continues. Remember when this was the network for great Science Fiction programming? Now it’s all the worst fecal matter on television. You might as well rebrand this network as SeWr.
Lol, “sewer,” very funny. And, sadly, appropriate! Can’t believe they cancelled the likes of Eureka and Stargate Universe, then passed on Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome as a regular series, in order to air FIVE MORE reality TV programs I won’t watch on what was once my favorite network. Sigh.
And Being Human, Haven, Warehouse 13, and Alphas are all uninspired programming as far as I’m concerned (though I watch Being Human because it’s not TOO terrible…). Now I only enjoy Eureka (last season!), Sanctuary (unless that’s ended?), Lost Girl (Canadian import, so they don’t even make it themselves), and Merlin (likewise a British import).
Really they should change there name from the “Science Fiction Channel” to the “Fictional Science” channel…
Enough with the reality garbage, Syfy! How about focusing on airing scripted dramas Ghost Projekt and The Dover Agenda? Or have they been “Blood and Chromed”, too?
I am not a syfy viewer normally and only tune in for Face Off. I tried Monster Man but could not get into it. I am only interested in the new Hot Set and will see how that goes.
SyFy has needed to clean house for a long time…
The problem is they almost can’t launch a new drama. Alphas barely made the cut. Reality programming is cheaper and no one loses their job when a series doesn’t work out.
Let’s just stop pretending that SyFy is anything but an infomercial station. That Battlestar cred got burned up years ago.
I am a sci-fi junkie, but I rarely watch SyFy these days. If I want “reality” TV, I can watch “Pawn Stars” or “American Picker” or any one of the “Real Housewives” trash that passes for TV these days.
I want SCIENCE FICTION, but it seems since the ™ name change this channel shows anything but.
How about picking up Fox’s cancelled Terra Nova, or another StarGate or Star Trek franchise? The heads of SyFy are asleep at the switch, and I can get better entertainment from a late-night infomercial.
I don’t think they’d be able to pick up Terra Nova as Terra Nova is just way to expensive to produce on their network. Now as reruns probably.
I find it hilarious that you’re all complaining about Syfy’s “death spiral” and the lack of science fiction programming, yet their ratings are higher than ever. Perhaps they know a bit more about what they’re doing than you realize.
Sadly it’s true – a lot of people seem to like sci fi “lite” and reality crap that doesn’t count as sci fi at all. But that doesn’t make any difference to me. I want something worth my while, and I don’t really care what the ignorant masses like.
I believe they are referring to the “quality” and or “creative” death spiral…not dollars.
Blame the people that think it’s cool to watch D level movies and giggle at how bad they are. Blame the people who like lame reality shows. That it’s doing well ratings wise only speaks to the dumbing down of the masses.
Cue–dueling banjos.
God forbid SyFy should try and make an actual Sci-fi show. Why do they still keep the name?
Worst Network on Television.
They had BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. They could have been a real heavy weight Cable Network.
Instead, they put on Wrestling, Reality, and watered down juvenile Science Fiction like Warehouse and Eureka. Parent Company should clean house and start over.
BRING BACK LEGEND QUEST!! More Adventure and Mystery!
I watch ghost mine sound good
Hey Syfi– wresting & reality aren’t sci-fi. get rid of them and get back to original programming.why not just change the name to the Junk Channel
More reality crap that ignores the fanbase of the channel. Screw them – I refuse to watch.
Once Eureka has run it final show, you will never see me again. You have taken a terrific SciFi channel and turned it into a fucking Reality Channel and I will never forgive you for this. What a miserable coward you people are to do this to a once proud channel. Please enjoy watching your viewship sink like the Titanic.
Glad to see Jack Osbourne still attaching himself to garbage… Ozzy deserves a better son!
