EXCLUSIVE: After six years on NBC’s 30 Rock, executive producer John Riggi is leaving the series for an overall deal at Warner Bros. TV. Under the rich two-year deal, Riggi will develop new projects for the studio and also work on an existing WBTV series. Riggi has been on 30 Rock since after the pilot, starting off as a co-executive producer. He shared in the series’ three Emmy wins for best comedies. Before 30 Rock, Riggi worked on Will & Grace, The Bernie Mac Show, The Comeback and The Larry Sanders Show. UTA-repped Riggi is the latest upper-level 30 Rock writer-producer to segue into an overall deal as the comedy series is nearing its end — expected to return for an abbreviated seventh and final season. In the past two weeks Matt Hubbard signed with Universal TV, Kay Cannon inked with 20th TV. Josh Siegal and Dylan Morgan just landed at Sony Pictures TV but will return for the final batch of 13-14 episodes of 30 Rock as co-executive producers. In addition to serving as a writer and executive producer, Riggi also has directed a dozen episodes of 30 Rock. While as a writer-producer he will work on projects under his WBTV deal, Riggi may go back to helm one or more episodes of 30 Rock‘s final season.

As a guy who worked for John during his last deal with Warners on the pilot “Peter Principal” I can only say he’s a class act and solid dude. Congrats, on all your success, John!
John is first rate as a writer, as a director and one of the most pleasant people to work with in TV. Congrats.
Great guy. Deserves all the best.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with him as well as being his friend…he is a classic. Only the beginning. You’ll be hearing this name a LOT.
A tru one of a kind talent who so richly deserves all the success in the world!!
White? Check. Male? Check. Overall deal? Check. Minority/Woman? Nope.
Do you have any idea how many minorities and women get staff positions on TV shows due to network diversity programs? Obviously not.
3.2% of all staff positions are diversity.
Someone didn’t read the article about fellow 30 Rock writer Kay Cannon getting her deal. And apparently missed the “try not to be a smug tool” seminar.
Ella, you’re like the person in the writing room who pitches the same idea over and over. Mix in some DIVERSITY of thought and your climb to the top may quicken.
I guess you write drama.
Elia if it makes you feel any better…..he’s also developing shows on BET with an all white cast.
Talented, talented, talented. Very happy for him.
I’ve known John Riggi since before we both did standup comedy together…over 30 years. I’ve worked with him on projects and know him personally. His ma was better to me than my own. He is certified great guy and has bonafide comedy brilliance on his side. I am very happy about his deal and Warner Bros is better off for it.
John and I started in standup at the same time and in the same small club in Cincinnati. We were friends then and now. He has always been a standout writer and idea man.
Amazing person, incredibly funny and a total sweetheart. Everything John gets he deserves…and then some. Total Class act.
John is lovely and talented and an amazing producer. His roots are in stand up, at which he was also very succesful and every now and then he delights audiences at UnCabaret. He will be doing so on Sunday 4/21, if you love John Riggi’s writing, come have the pleasure of hearing it come out of his own mouth.
