In a competitive situation with several studios interested, 20th Century Fox TV has signed hot young comedy writer-producer Kay Cannon in an overall deal. She will develop new projects for the studio and will also join 20th TV’s comedy series New Girl as a co-executive producer next season. Second City and UCB alumna Cannon spent the last 6 years on NBC’s Emmy-winning comedy series 30 Rock, starting as a staff writer in Season 1 and rising to supervising producer this season. In 2010 she received an Emmy nomination for co-writing with 30 Rock creator/star Tina Fey the Lee Marvin vs. Derek Jeter episode of the show. On the feature side, Cannon’s first script, Pitch Perfect, is being produced into a movie distributed by Universal and starring Anna Kendrick. Cannon is with WME and Brillstein Entertainment.

The sky’s the limit for the aim on this Cannon. Kaboom!
Don’t remember all of the deets of the episodes, but I remember noting that the “Derek Jeter” and “Reaganing” episodes of 30 Rock last season were incredible.
Phenomenal news! She’s a brilliant comedian who will be sorely missed on 30 Rock and UCBNY where she was part of one of my favorite shows “Let’s Have a Ball”. Now we get to see her perform here in L.A. and watch her career grow. Mazel to the Tov on that!
So happy for you Kay. You deserve this so much.
Cannon is talented, funny and a wonderful human! So happy for her. New Girl is lucky to have her on their staff.
Terrific news! Plus, in the battle of the exes, she has soared past her ex-husband Jason Sudeikis! Your move, Jason!
Nah, I’d say Jason’s still got this one actually…
Starring in movies and TV vs. joining the staff of a low-boil series.
Smart move escape NBC while you still can writers.
No, way! It doesnt take much to act like a fool, you have to be extremely inntelligent to do what Kay does. It takes a brilliant brain!
Any obviously I could not pull anything like this off because I cant spell!
