ABC is finishing up the slew of new series orders and renewals. The Reba McEntire-starring comedy Malibu Country was the only pilot left in contention when the network made the bulk of its pickups about an hour ago. I hear the multi-camera sitcom will be paired with another multi-camera comedy fronted by a sitcom star Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing. The deal to renew the freshman comedy is almost done. The pickup of Malibu Country, which co-stars Sara Rue, means that NBC’s new series Guys With Kids will have to recast the role she played as a guest star in the pilot as she was in second position to Malibu Country.
For those keeping score, ABC picked up a total of 9 pilots to series today, five dramas and four comedies. The network also will likely look at a couple of other comedy pilots, including the well-received Daddy’s Girls and Ladyfriends, which barely missed the cut at NBC.

I want LAST MAN STANDING where it should have been last year, behind MODERN FAMILY. LAST MAN STANDING was solid on its own in demo, opening up Tuesdays against CBS’ NCIS and not having a decent followup sitcom to partner with it. It will be huge behind Modern Family. It consistently pulled more viewers than THE MIDDLE, SUBURGATORY and APT23 all spring. Slot FAMILY TOOLS or MALIBU COUNTRY into the 8:30 position behind THE MIDDLE and ABC will have a night that it guaranteed to pull in big viewer numbers and demo numbers. It’s past time ABC put together a solid night of family sitcoms. That’s the only thing keeping THE MIDDLE and MODERN FAMILY from being even bigger than they were this past fall.
It’s nice to see Reba back on tv i cant wait to see her show and i am glad to see Last Man Standing has been renewed.
If Pan Am had been aired any night but Suday it would have survived . I enjoyed the show but the sixties ( Ed Sullivan and Bonanza ) are long gone. Sunday has become a work day for more…
