Marc Cherry is inching closer to a quick return to ABC’s primetime. I’ve learned that his ABC/ABC Studios pilot Devious Maids has been given permission to start making senior staffing offers. While that does not guarantee a series pickup, such a move is usually a promising sign about a pilot’s chances. Like Cherry’s departing Desperate Housewives, Devious Maids, based on the Mexican format, is a soap with four female leads (Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Judy Reyes), maids with ambition and dreams of their own who work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. Devious Maids is one of several pilots that are already making staffing offers, along with NBC comedies Save Me and The New Normal. NBC’s single-camera comedy Go On is the only pilot so far to secure a series order.

grant show is sexy, gorgeous and the best thing about this show.
everything else is irrelevant
bye!
UGH! This sounds awful! So many other ABC soaps are more appealing.
Hey, wait a minute, where’s my meeting?
Good for Cherry, but honestly this sounded like the worst pilot of season.
Susan Lucci comes to primetime. I hope this show gets paired with revenge on Sundays.
why would i want to watch a show with rich actors acting like poor maids wanting to be rich socialites?
Seems to me they’re thinking Desperate Housewives meets The Help.
Can’t truly see this show lasting but it’s a Marc Cherry show and depending on what happens in the retrial of Sheridan’s case, this may or may not even make it to air. ABC could pass on this at the last minute if they so choose.
Why would Nicolette sheridan’s trial have anything to do with this show? Besides in the first case, the charges against him were dropped.
Devious Maids was such a fun pilot and Ana Ortiz is awesome. She needs to be back on an ABC show and Marc Cherry knows how to make a great series. Stop hating everyone! This show is a hit.
Good!! Certainly one of the better sounding soaps. I hope Gilded Lily’s makes in on the schedule and hopefully Penoza as well. Nashville, Americana, and Scruples are weaker sounding soaps.
You guys are all majorly discounting the growing Latino audience out there who is dying to see themselves on American TV in one way or another. And yes, Latinos are one of the few groups who actually still watch shows live, so it matters in the Nielsens.
Now I’m not saying just cause you’re Latin, you’d want to watch this show. Cause heck, I’m Latin, but it’s not my cup of tea. Not enough aliens or monsters. Still, I could definitely see this doing well. And ABC knows it…
Honey- the growing Latino audience who speak English and watch ABC, are the affluent one’s who have moved on from being viewed as a maid or valet. I should know- I was rasied by spanish speaking only grandparents. i only watched telenovela’s until middle school when i was allowed to watch what i wanted (and I got my own tv in my room). once that happened, i watched only American made English language sit coms and dramas. Even with how HUGE the spanish viewing audience is in America, those who never learn English and/or prefer to simply watch Univision and Telemundo, will continue to do so. My mom, grandma, tia, and cousins my age ALL still only watch Uni and Tele.
Not to mention- Univision today alone, KILLS the English language nets in ratings COMBINED.
now- hopefully cherry gets it right, hires the right staff, who can turn this into the hit Ugly Betty was at first.
don’t be mistaken to believe, we latino’s want to see ourselves as fucking maids on telelvision.
I hope Latino’s won’t rally behind a series depicting them as “the help”…
Re: “You guys are all majorly discounting the growing Latino audience out there who is dying to see themselves on American TV in one way or another.”
Sorry, but you’re wrong. I’m not interested in seeing shows that depict Latinos as maids or other subservient types. If that means no Latinos on TV, so what.
And to the person who said that most Latinos watch Spanish TV, I wouldn’t be so sure. Nielsen only measures the viewing habits of Latinos who are Spanish dominant or bilingual. They don’t measure the viewing habits of Spanish surnamed peope who only speak English. Thus the Spanish language TV ratings are probably inflated.
Fun Fact: The original Mexican format was based on Cherry’s Desperate Housewives. And now Cherry’s adapting that. What goes around comes around, eh?
Has anyone heard anything about abc pilot Beauty and the Beast? Hot or not?
The Help was released and quite profitable for Disney. Disney owns ABC. Latinos are a big market.
Easy to follow the thought process, but have doubts about the result. And, this is ABC which is not exactly the leader in television creativity.
I don’t know… the Latino POV from Marc Cherry… that’s like the military POV from Rupert Everret.
This sounds too much like Desperate Housewives and that show is pretty much has no relevance now. The title is horrible. I hope it’s good though. I love Ana Ortiz.
I’m so Happy for Ana Ortiz. She’s a fantastic actress and she deserves the role in Devious Maid’s to be picked up!
im watching the pilot right now and really enjoying it. It’s great seeing the whole life of the rich told from a different poit of view. Ahem, Gossip Girl etc
Targeting only the Latino audience would be a big mistake no ABC just needs to make the show appel to all audiences not jst latins
