And we have the first recasting on a newly picked up broadcast series. I’ve learned that Amy Huberman, who played the female lead in the NBC single-camera comedy pilot Animal Practice, won’t continue on the project, which was ordered to series yesterday. The office comedy stars Justin Kirk as George, a “House”-like veterinarian, who loves animals but usually hates their owners (especially the new woman who runs the clinic). Irish actress Huberman played that woman, George’s intelligent and beautiful old girlfriend, now engaged to another, who is assigned to run the animal hospital. She landed the role in her first U.S. audition ever. The part will now be recast. Co-starring on the series are Tyler Labine and Bobby Lee.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

Its been a slow pick up day, when will it heat up again?
The first of many.
My heart goes out to her. Rough break. Don’t sweat it, the women always get recast in this awful business.
What a shame, Amy is a wonderful actress and charming to boot. She reminds me of a modern day Maureen O’Hara.
I think she just didn’t have time for the show. She’s currently the star of a UK sitcom that debuts it’s second series this fall. The network is already in talks for a third series of 22 episodes, depending on the ratings for series 2. If that happens, there’s no was she could simultaneously star in an American series.
Maybe they can get Amanda Peet once Bent gets canceled.
Jack & Jill reunion!
Tyler Labine: jinx.
Not his fault. He’s routinely the best part of every show he’s in that gets cancelled.
What’s the betting he plays an unlikeable, slovenly manchild? At least poor Andrea Anders plays nice people when she kills her shows.
Why would anyone think this show is good anyway?
I say first show canceled
I read this script. But I don’t remember a thing about it. Is this one of those things where NBC has a deal with Justin Kirk and they MUST use him somehow? Bobby Lee certainly isn’t a draw for anyboy who has seen his stand up.
I liked the cold open… but couldn’t really take the whole thing.
huge fan of Bobby lee. He is hilarious every time.
Yay, Brian and Alex. Good guys!
Amy is a fantastic actress and her UK sitcom ‘Threesome’ is brilliant, easily one of the best comedies on UK TV.
No offense to her I’m sure she is lovely and talented BUT that is what you get when you hire non funny women to play lead roles in comedies. When are you people going to learn? You can’t shove the cute / pretty talented actress next to funny people. It’s not good for her and it’s not good for the project. HIRE A FUNNY WOMAN.
Amy is Lovely AND Talented AND Funny. one of the few actresses that i have come across that actually understands the value of comedic timing. she is a star in the making this just wasnt for her. NBC’s loss bigtime.
Tyler Labine again? Hey for a change, can he not play a scruffy, vaguely-stoned slob? How about a neatly groomed, fussy metrosexual, just to mix it up.
Anyway, I’m in for Justin Kirk. Only broadcast comedy pilot that at all interests me.
