Back in the headlines after his recent Celebrity Apprentice win, Arsenio Hall is mulling a return to the late-night syndicated talk show circuit. I hear Hall has been in talks with CBS TV Distribution about a project that also may involve Tribune. There are no deals in place but if conversations materialize, Hall will likely film a presentation. CBS TV Distribution declined comment. Immediately following his Celebrity Apprentice victory a week ago, Hall spoke publicly of his desire to return to television in a more permanent fashion. A deal with CBS TV Distribution would mark a reunion for the company and Hall. His syndicated late-night Arsenio Hall Show, which ran from 1989 to 1994, was produced by CBS TV Distribution predecessor Paramount Domestic TV.

Cant we just give this man Leno’s job? He was and still would be a thousand times better.
No I think Arsenio should replace Letterman Letterman is not funny!
I agree I haven’t found Letterman funny in forever. I thought Arsenio Hall was great on Celebrity Apprentice and I think he could make late night fun again. Celebrity Apprentice is more enjoyable without the pain of having to fast forward commercials every ten minutes. The new Auto Hop feature is great and I won’t have to manually skip them on PrimeTime anymore. One of my coworkers at Dish showed me how this feature functions and how it’s going to make things simple. This isn’t an automatic feature and it asks if I want to skip commercials before I watch each recording. No more over fast forwarding past the shows and I can save the life on the batteries on my remote.
Yes, that’s exactly what we need: another late-night tv talk show. The one thing we need more: another reality tv show.
I’d rather see Coming to America part 2
I came here to type the exact same thing.
Maybe this time, he could kick Jay’s ass, since it’s pretty low-hanging fruit at this point in the game…
Just what the world of television needs, another syndicated talk show.
Celebrity Apprentice isnt rigged at all. “What’s that Arsenio? You want another talk show? Come on Celebrity Apprentice and we’ll put you back in the spotlight ahead of time. Hell we’ll even guarantee you win!
I get that reality shows are rigged but I wish they werent so blatant about it.
@ JC: I agree with you… I actually watched this season and I have to admit… There was an unusual love-fest going on between Trump and Arsenio. But the final straw was his WIN.
If you had picked the winner based on the final presentation then I can’t see how Clay lost. You could even see the Bored expression on Trump’s face when he entered Arsenio’s party!
Clay won every point in that last contest… but loses.
I agree The Fix Was In.
That said: Give Arsenio a talk show, why not. Its what he’s good at! And for the first show have Ms. O’Day on! Ratings Gold.
The best interviewer in the business.
Yes, I’m kidding.
Absolutely not. Talk about an unnecessary sequel.
This uniquely self-absorbed, self-smitten guy back into the trenches? Ucch. At least wait till 2016 when you can have Hilary on playing whatever instrument she plays.
No where in this article does it say his new show would be a late night offering. It’s VERY feasible (and I’d even say LIKELY) that the new show would be a daytime show (remember, just as he is 20 years older, so his his potential audience).
2nd best talk show ever. Only Carson was better. I was in the audience several times & it was fantastic. Get rid of Fallon, NBC. Put some real talent in his place!
You’re joking, right? If not then I can only assume that, mentally, you are a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
Letterman SUCKS. Has not been interested or funny in more than 20 yrs.
I was but a wee lad when Arsenio got the gasface, and his show was cancelled the first time around. Best as I could tell, from reading musty news clips, is he got in hot water (with advertisers maybe?) for having a Nation of Islam guest on his show who said unsavory things. I can’t imagine why else they would drop the one late-night host in Arsenio that actually put fear in the heart of Johnny Carson, according to recent American Masters documentary on Johnny Carson’s incandescent career.
Does anyone have the skinny?
I mean, Arsenio, on his worst day, is a thousand times better than Carson Daly, a nice guy whose show, to be blunt, blows. And Lettermen and Leno, both once solid, are showing their age. I would love to see TV bring in new faces (and re-visit talented old ones, even) because the current state of late-night TV is dire.
Hey Bobbythesaint, I think what you read might have traction and veracity. Arsenio caught unholy hell for having Louis Farakhan on his show, and not too long after that he got cancelled. I don’t think his ratings were even atrocious — sure, they weren’t at the apex either — when they pulled the plug. Still, the cancellation of his groundbreaking show was one of the biggest travesties of late-night television. I also saw that PBS show on Johnny Carson and it’s true: Carson, for the first time, heard footsteps when Arsenio arrived on the late-night, talk-show scene. Arsenio was that good. I say bring him back and light a fire under Leno’s lazy butt.
Watching Arsenio’s interview with Vanilla Ice for the 1,000th time is a lot more entertaining than watching another lame Jay Leno monologue.
Arsenio would be good on Fox Saturday late-night where Mad TV, Spike Feresten and Wanda Sykes used to be.
I’d rather watch him than the horrible Russell Brand
This show most likely would air in 2013 in late night. This was the same problem Conan faced. There aren’t any syndicated late night time slots left with those long-term comedy deals.
I agree with Travis.
However, how about this??
Arsenio’s new show targeted for “prime access”, the hour between 7 and 8 P.M. ET/PT.
I don’t think any syndicated talk/variety show has ever been designed for that hour.
It certainly would be an alternative to game shows, celebrity magazine shows, and off-network sitcoms that generally are shown during that hour.
time for Arsenio to take the tentative time slot that FOX might give In Living Color
and time for him to do a sketch called Ivory Loves Coco…payback…it’s a mutha!
OWN has some time slots open.
It’s been announced that Arsenio’s show will air at 10p in some markets, 11p in others.
Glad to hear Arsenio Hall is coming back to late-night television – can’t wait to see him, he is real funny to me. I was wondering had his band members been chosen yet? I would love to audition for it, I believe it would be lots of fun playing and singing with his musicians. Since I played on his show in the 90′s in the Martha Wash band, it would be great to do that again. Looking forward to him coming back to television.
