EXCLUSIVE: Lucy Alibar, co-writer of Beasts Of The Southern Wild, has closed a deal to write her next screenplay for Escape Artists. It is an original idea that is inspired by Alibar’s play, Christmas and Jubilee Behold the Meteor Shower. Alibar co-wrote Beasts Of The Southern Wild with Behn Zeitlin, which is based on her original play Juicy and Delicious. The film won this year’s Sundance’s Narrative Grand Jury prize. Fox Searchlight acquired the film at that festival and screened it tonight and received a rousing response at the Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard.
“This is the first time in many years that I have met such a young, unique and fresh voice and we are very excited to be working with Lucy” said Todd Black from Escape Artists.
Alibar is repped by Gersh and Dan Halsted at Manage-ment.

BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD is a good picture, but Lucy is far from a pleasure to work with. Talk about ego! Proceed with caution…
No, lucy is passionate and visionary, and more than suppportive when working with people who’s morals are aligned. If you’re not a jerk you should be thrilled to work with her.
Not true, i’ve worked with Lucy and she’s an amazing writer, a great collaborator and one of the smartest person i’ve ever worked with. I’ll work with her anytime .
Why the cyber bullying? …It’s pretty low.
This is great news and much deserved success for an incredible young woman. Lucy is hilarious, endearing, and truly one-of-a-kind. She has been nothing but a joy to work with in my experiences.
Elliptical. seriously?.Your personal issues are all over that comment. Does anyone cares what you think? Try adulthood someday. It’ll serve you well.
That’s not true at all, Lucy is a wonderful and brilliant writer and a pleasure to work with. She’ll have a long and bright career.
Lucy is a great talent. She is a dream to work with and has endless potential. Please ignore this jealous ellipse- who clearly wastes time circling their personal problems rather than progressing in an everchanging new age of Hollywood. Way to go Lucy- you deserve the world.
Lucy is a consummate professional and one of the most down to earth, pleasant people I have ever worked with. Not to mention immensely talented. Anything said to the contrary is just plain false.
I consider myself lucky to have worked with someone as talented and fun to be around as Lucy Alibar. There really are few people who have her combination of wit, charm, energy, intellect and heart. I am so proud of her film, though I am not surprised. I was telling people for years what a great success she was going to be. What a gal.
My experiences with her have been otherwise. They were not good. This doesn’t mean she is a bad person, or untalented or stupid. In fact, I made a point of saying the picture is good. My statement is an honest assessment of my experience with her. If I wanted to trash her, I could have rubbished the picture and launched a personal attack. What I did was point out that, when compared to many other working writers/directors/actors, I found her to be arrogant and rude. Remember, talent and intelligence will only take you so far. People skills are crucial–or one runs the risk of alienating potential supporters. It’s a small town. People talk. I do wish her success, because I want to see more movies like BEASTS. But I don’t think bad behavior and attitude should go unremarked upon.
No one likes an anonymous bully … care to identify yourself?
Yes, elliptical, tell us who you are. you have made some personal attacks here and elsewhere that need some history to back them.
Sounds a lot like petty jealousy. Right,Elliptical? What have you accomplished?
I love Lucy and what she and Benh gave to me and hope she can give me more opportunities to be a part of her work and collaborations. She a very down-to-earth, good-hearted person on top of her talent and giftedness.it has been an honor to know you.
Lucy is a talented, passionate person with a mastery of story and banana bread. Why hate?
Elliptical – Lucy’s extreme talent in undeniable, so I won’t even go into it. What I will say is that personally, she is one of the LEAST arrogant or rude people I have ever met. She is generous, and kind, and lovely, and has nothing but positivity. I can only imagine that you yourself are a piece of work to have imagined or elicited anything other than that. In addition – trolling is for jerks.
