EXCLUSIVE: A lot of WME staffers tomorrow get handed
checks courtesy of that recent deal with strategic equity partner Silver Lake Partners. The agency won’t say who gets how much, but a source tells me, “There are some checks that are obnoxiously high, and there are some checks that are high enough.” It’s not just board members and partners, either: I’m told WME assistants will get $1,000 each as a “token of appreciation”. (Hey, isn’t that what those poorly paid peons pocket all year?) On May 2nd the Hollywood agency announced that techno-savvy Silver Lake was taking a 31% non-controlling minority interest in a deal set by WME toppers Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell. The investor, Emanuel, and Whitesell all decided to bestow the cash.

Look and learn ICM, look and learn….
Glad the agents are getting rich. Anyone care about the clients anymore?
Hey, these guys just got me a job. I hope their checks were enormous!
Do we get to spend it all in one place Papa?
Wow that’s actually amazing that they ACTUALLY gave something to the assistants. Kudos to WME! By the way, it’s well deserved. I’ve often dealt with many a WME assistant and they’ve rarely been anything but kind, hard-working and helpful. They breed them well over there and apparently reward them equally. Nice.
Agreed.
It’s so nice when assistants get rewarded. Way to go WME!
Hopefully they give some of the agents enough money to buy phones so they can make phone calls and try to book some of their clients instead of having the clients generate the work and then “take it from here”…..putz’s
It’s “putzes”, you putz.
Maybe because it’s an incredibly cool and rare thing to reward those who work their butts off for very little monetary compensation.
Look into this “cool” and “right thing to do”. It will astound you…well maybe not YOU, but into it anyway.
Drinks on the WME assistants tonight!
Come on assistants, pool all that money together and buy a boat load of Facebook stock and then take over WME on your own. I hear you can get it on the cheap these days.
Didn’t ICM pocket $100M or such from Rizvi a few years back and not give anything to anyone aside from the top brass? No wonder everyone is leaving.
it is over for icm
You don’t know the definition of deep. $40K a year + $1K = the baby pool.
will greenblatt be handing out the checks?
good for wme. it’s the one good thing they’ve ever done.
A couple of months ago they also gave the assistants $500 gas cards.
$1,000!
A token indeed!
When I was at Endeavor I got to eat the leftovers from the Agent lunches.
And no doubt they claimed you as a charitable tax deduction that year.
Kudos to them for doing this when they didn’t have to, but it’s a drop in the bucket when their assistants make less than minimum wage when you factor in the lack of paid overtime but expected workload. Part of making it or taking advantage?
Nice to see that they gave something to the assistants. A lot of companies profit share with ALL full time employees. It’s sad that it’s such a rarity in entertainment.
The number of people complaining about the bonuses given to the assistants on here always makes me laugh. When I was an assistant–and grateful to be one–back when most of today’s assistants were in kindergarten, we were thrilled to be paid for what amounts to the best graduate school for entertainment possible. $40,000?!?!?!?! We all barely made $20K…and I was not subsidized by my rich, powerful dad. We’ve all done it…and had it worse–we actually had to copy and drive scripts all over town!…No simple emailing them!! The difference is that today’s assistants seem to think they are owed something and don’t actually need to earn the hollywood salaries that their bosses worked their asses off for. The smart ones are the those who keep their eyes on the prize. The rest come here and bitch….and will be gone in 3 years.
what planet are you on that you think assts make 40k????? try 24
When we were assistants it was a time when big perks and big gifts were “in” but my last year as one before moving up – I recall those being cut back and I don’t think they’ve ever really come back. Money sounds about the same. Sometimes there were cash bonuses when things went well. Assistants should always be taken care of —- and not thrown staplers at. Nice job WmE
Watch out for extra bottle service this weekend, and big bribes to cut the line at Hudson and Churchill. But really, I’m just jealous.
Back when I was an assistant at CAA, they used to have a formula for their year-end bonuses: $100 for every month that you had been with the company. Considering that it took 4-6 years to get promoted – if you were fortunate enough to get promoted – you could be getting $5k – $6k bonuses after a number of years.
I remember thinking it was a very simple, equitable formula.
Oh, and the agents themselves would often hand out their own bonuses to their assistants.
Not sure how things are nowadays though.
so CAA and WME had some sort of bonus structure worked out for the assistants…In my 2 years at ICM I never once received a bonus. I got a few pats on the back but that was as far as it ever went. I hate to beat a dead horse but the corporate culture there is toxic! I was just too green to recognize it while I was there.
I’ve got some friends over there, I feel for you guys!
Pull it up ICM!
wme gives $200 for every month you are with the company at christmas and almost all agents give their assistants year-end bonuses that range from $500 to several thousand.
