After lengthy negotiations, CBS‘ long-running sitcom Rules Of Engagement has been picked up for a 13-episode seventh season. The renewal will bring the total run of the series to 100 episodes. The order ends weeks of intense talks between CBS and Rules producer Sony Pictures TV that could not be concluded by the network’s upfront presentation last Wednesday. By Thursday, the two sides had reached agreement in principal and hammered out the license fee terms.

CBS only ordered two new comedy series for next season — Partners for fall and Friend Me for midseason — so, as this season proved, having a reliable performer like Rules on the bench could come in handy. While it has not been a breakout hit of the size of CBS’ Two And A Half Men or The Big Bang Theory, Rules has been a great utility player for CBS, delivering solid ratings wherever needed on the schedule.

I actually like this show…. I mean it’s not anything special or great but it’s okay for what it is.
Pound for pound, this show delivers more big laughs per minute than most shows on the air. No small feat.
I agree. I have been laughing so much. I have been trying to get caught up on the show since I just heard about it with in the last week. I am at the end of season 4 and can not wait for the new season to start. I really love this show and hope it continues to make new episodes for years to come .
The”According to Jim” of our time.
Yep.
Actually, “According to Jim” is the “According to Jim” of our time. “Rules of Engagement” has only been on the air since 2007 or so. What are you, 5 years old?
Love “Rules”! Best network sitcom on the air right now, IMO. Congrats, guys! Writers: More Adam and Jennifer!
Now if they would just bring back HOW TO BE A GENTLEMAN for a second season. I could really get behind that.
If they could just have Wendi MaLendon-Covey fulltime, the show would be pretty damn funny. She’s just this side of nuts and makes me crack up every time she’s on screen.
Yes, they can bring back How to Be a Gentleman when they bring back Viva Laughlin and Secret Talents of the Stars.
I’d be down with that. The Diane-Jerry relationship was only the tip of the creative iceberg.
Whoa whoa whoa! Jerry and DIANE hook up? Can a man get a spoiler alert?! Next thing you’re gonna tell me Jerry gets invited over for Thanksgiving with the Carlsons. (Yeah right!)
HT Baggins, if you’re surprised by that, just wait until you see what they do with Andrew’s ex-fiancee’s Lauren’s husband’s character, Tom!
River Lawyer, you’d better not be pulling our leg. I friggin’ LOVED Tom in the wedding episode, but I never thought he’d be back. Oh man, he was such a great douche and the perfect philosophical antagonist for Andrew. (That was Hayes MacArthur’s brother playing him, right? Between this and Perfect Couples, the MacArthur Bros. are CRUSHING IT.)
I’d totally be down for a Thanksgiving at the Carlsons! Especially if there was a story line where Andrew helps Bert build a small-scale sports stadium made entirely of junk food. Since there’s no way something that wonderful would ever make it to television, we’re all just going to have to hold our breath and hope that somehow, someday the lost sleepweight episodes see the light of day.
I too like this show.
Oliver Hudson has become my favorite. He makes a cliched character anything but cliched. Not an easy task.
Writer’s beware: Patrick Warburton’s character has gotten waaaay too unlikable. I get the part he’s playing, but he’s become waaay too much of an a-hole to his wife. The laughs have turned from funny to uncomfortable. Why would she stay with him? Because his last couple of lines are sweet in every episode? The only character to pull that off successfully was Ralph Cramden.
Lump this in with foxs til death as shows that wouldnt die.
How? Seriously. How did this happen?
We get it, they wouldn’t hire you.
I like this show. Oliver Hudson is also my favorite character.
Good call. And I’m going to have to disagree with the previous poster about Patrick Warburton’s character. I think he’s hysterical. Is this the best comedy on television? No, of course not. But for me, it’s in the top 5 or 6, which is good enough.
This show is so funny. I never thought to watch it but one day it was on after “Big Bang” or “Mother” and I tuned in and was surprised by how funny it was. I not Tivo it. I love Liz and the Timmy character. It really is solid and always makes me laugh. Glad it’s back.
I think this show could use some new blood, like Jerome Barkum or Jum Kiick.
I am very happy to read this news. Rules is such an underrated show. I think because its so low-key and based on real life that it doesn’t get the attention of other CBS comedies, but it is SO MUCH better than the horrendous 2 Broke Girls or Two and Half Men.
I know I am older than the target audiences (I presume) but I just don’t get it. I will SOMETIMES watch these shows because I am too lazy to go for a walk and I wait and wait for a laugh, a giggle or a smile but the most constant facial expression I end up using starts with my eyes rolling and regret I didn’t go for that walk. I really believe CBS, NBC, FOX and ABC should just do reality shows and leave the real acts of creativity to those at the top of the dial who know what they are doing.
Great news, one of the best comedies on tv.
I’m a big fan of ROE and am glad to hear it’s coming back.
Sure, it’s coming back so it can go into syndication, but that’s all right.
CBS kind of ganked this show. Moving it from place to place, making it take a break, blah, blah, blah.
I think it’ll be discovered in syndication.
Congrats to all involved.
my mom works on this show… it got picked up for syndication last season…
I don’t think Barkum or Kick would be of any help, I think they need Don Gullet or maybe Steve Yeager.
no picture of that sexy bastard Tom Hertz huh?
Lol…. oh my….
And they did this for syndication purposes as well, so they can make their money back on the program once it airs in the syndication cycle. It has helped CBS plug some small holes in their lineups though.
This show has been on for six years? Who knew?
PPL they were already picked up for syndication last yr…. so now this just gives a full 100 episodes that can go into sydication… but with or without out the extra 13 we were gonna be seeing ROE in sydication… But glad there is another 13 new episodes to watch
This show is truly an underdog. It really started getting good when they brought in the Timmy character to play off David Spade’s Russell. I also think the actress who plays Jen is very beautiful. Its one of the few comedies that makes ma laugh out loud.
Needs more Timmy and Adam, less Russell.
Hooray! More Rules of Engagement and, hopefully, a lot more Tug and Barry!
