It’s no April Fool’s joke — last month CNN delivered its lowest-rated month in total day in over a decade, since August 2001, the month before the September 11 attacks. The once-dominant cable news network posted decade-lows among both total viewers (357,000) and Adults 25-54 (108,000). Versus April last year, CNN was down 21% in total viewers and 29% in 25-54. In comparison, leader Fox News CHannel was up 2% in total viewers (1.1 million) and 1% in 25-54 (273,000) and No.2 MSNBC was flat in total viewers (425,000) and down 5% in 25-54 (139,000).
UPDATE: CNN Ratings DROP — Hit 20-Year Weekday Primetime Low
Things did not look brighter for CNN in the evening where its shows too posted across-the-board declines: John King USA at 6 PM was down 41% in the 25-54 demo, Erin Burnett Outfront at 7 PM was down 34%, Piers Morgan was down 14% at 9PM, and Anderson Cooper 360 was down 8% at 8 PM and 28% at 10PM. In primetime, CNN had its lowest rated month in nearly two years, since August 2010, in both total viewers (508,000, down 16% from last year) and adults 25-54 (149,000, down 22%). Meanwhile FNC (1.9 million, 395,000 in 25-54) was flat in total viewers from last April and down 9% in 25-54. MSNBC (754,000; 236,000) was down 5% and 9%, respectively.

The nation votes with their remotes.
The people have spoken.
ALL liberal news outlets are losing readers/viewers. Now that they can be fact checked they are no longer trusted.
I can’t understand why we have British talk show hosts here. Are there any Americans doing the same in Great Britain?
CNN has really gone downhill. The anchors now (e.g., Erin Burnett and Brooke Baldwin) think they are performing to win an Oscar. Watch their gesticulations and facial expressions. They can’t just simply report the news; they have to emote over it. The entire channel is an insult to journalism. It all seems to be the pervasive TMZing of news.
CNN personalities are just too full of themselves with Wolf Blitzer being the worst. I’m an American expat in Asia and watch CNN International. It seems there’s just way too much self promoting for their own good, and laughable self-centeredness.
Piers Morgan places his importance above the guests and constantly cuts them off in mid-conversation and approaches his line of questioning like the cheap tabloid writer he is. Very annoying.
Take advice from Sarah Palin. “Want ratings? Hire conservatives!”
I tried to watch CNN, but it is to liberal, couldnt take the Obama gushing on there. Only channel there is to watch is FOX, I wish conservatives and center rights would be on more stations.
My Mom was a devoted Presbyterian. To suggest that she should consider joining the Baptist Church because they had a better organist, would not have been plausible for her.
To suggest that CNN veer/pivot right because thay may get more viewers, is not plausible. They’ll go down clinging to their left-wing egos.
Maybe they could get Rush to do an hour show. That’ll get their ratings up!
Yes get celebrities to “read” and “perform” the news. There is always reality news – all staged news and re-enacted news. OR, or CNN can hired journalists NOT scandalized ex-politicians to host news programs. AND CNN can hire a producing team to create shows with a relevant theme. I feel like whenever I flipped through there it is just grown ass boring ass people shouting at one another. CNN is like the median in the cable boulevard to get to somewhere else. CNN Headline News is cool. That cast of talking heads CNN has is SO BAD. Not interesting to look at nor listen to. Hand me the remote please.
The difficulty in finding a channel for objectivity and
substance has gotten acute. Fox has no intellectual heft
but is a crucial source of hearing the stories the MSM
refuse to carry. Msnbc has moved so far to the left that
its entire lineup could be used as an Obama campaign ad
without editing a word. Their promos are straight from
Axelrod talking points. Sadly CNN suffers from boring
and/or annoying newscasters. It’s disappointing to have to
research news reports before daring to believe anything
you hear.
comedy central has higher ratings, Is it any wonder?
They can start by putting Americans on as anchors or hosts. Piers Morgan has no ability to connect with the average American and comes off as know-it-all elitist with a patronizing tone.
CNN use to be awesome 20 years ago, now it’s infotainment that is unwatchable. Their web site is worse. It’s all celebrity gossip, sensationalization of old stories, and goofy celebrity hosts like Sanjay Gupta. What a joke. I’m surprised they get any viewers at all.
All cable news has ridiculous stories that aren’t even news (e.g. Elizabeth Smart, Anna Nicole Smith funeral, etc)…CNN is even worse because their reporting is also completely flaccid and uninteresting. If I were a conservative, I would watch Fox News…if I were a liberal, I’d watch MSNC or read the NYT. Who watches CNN then? No one is right down the middle.
The only decent shows are wolf blitzer & anderson cooper. Piers is a joke, really impressed with himself, the new gal out front, is not on point and acts like she is not interested in a lot of the questing, she just reads them, John king is boring, so I would say they need some new blood.
Just imagine how worse it would be for CNN if they lost all the airport televisions across the country… that would be half of their remaining viewers!
“that would be half of their remaining viewers!”
Half? More like 80%!
Who watches that airport shit anyway? Talk about a captive audience!
I think it’s time that CNN become a movie network. Maybe then more than a dozen people will watch it.
Happy to witness CNN’s demise.
20 years ago CNN was on top of their game. They broadcast live from Baghdad as the Cruise missiles were screaming by and the anti aircraft artillery were being fired by the thousands. That was journalism. I will never forget that coverage. Such a shame the CNN brand has devolved so much since then.
They should bring in Keith Olbermann and Kim Karsdashian as the new dynamic duo. Then there can be a nightly viewer poll, with prizes, of which is the more obnoxious — and always call it a dead heat. That would keep me coming back jsut to find some eventualy closure.
I am a conservative and I do not watch FOX news and I never have. I used to watch CNN and MSNBC, but over the years the shouting the misinformation and the obvious very very obvious left slant was too much for me. I agree with what some other people said, those networks are all about their own presenters. It is like watching a reality show contest for news “personalities”, yuck. Who can outdo each other, shout each other down and be the most condensing and rude to anyone who dares to not agree with them.
It is ridiculous. It is impossible to just the news now from anywhere in America. I read the UK papers now online. They have very good factual and interesting coverage of our events and politics.
And the dinosaur media slumbers and sways, and will fall to its eventual death right before our eyes. Long overdue!
I remember that, during Desert Storm, CNN was all over it with reporters live in Baghdad while we were bombing the hell out of Sadam. They had real reporters then who would tell it like it was. Any more, it seems like it is played more for laughs and what passes as entertainment. Bullsugar! Give us back the old CNN under Ted Turner or shut it down. What a pathetic end to what was onec a fine news organization.
Just watched a Piers Morgan interview with Jonah Goldberg…and it quickly degenerated to a point where it became unwatchable. If the decision to hire such an idiot to have his own show was indicative of what CNN has become…it is no wonder why this story has made publication. CNN is a complete nonfactor. They couldn’t find the truth with both hands and a map.
This is such fun.
