It will be the first appearance on David Letterman’s late-night show in 13 years for Conan O’Brien when he hits the chair next Thursday (May 17). The now-TBS late-night host replaced Letterman as host of NBC’s Late Night in 1993 after Letterman left for CBS. Of course, O’Brien eventually (and briefly) was host of The Tonight Show, a gig Letterman wanted back in the day and led to his departure from NBC after the job went to Jay Leno.

It was his job to take down a weakened Late Show and Conan Just Couldn’t Do It.
Some people can’t handle the Big Leagues.

Are his ratings that bad that he has to promote his show on a real network?
I think it’s great. It’s going to be a lot of fun. Collegiality. It’s a good thing. And nobody does it better than comedians and comedy writers and performers.
I’m sure Jay Leno’s name won’t come up at ALL.
And what, pray tell, is the reason for this?
To promote a show, falling in ratings, badly in need of a boost, perhaps??
And what, pray tell, is the reason for your comment? Unfamiliar with the fact that interview shows often have guests, perhaps??
If Leno’s name does come up, nobody will hear it because nobody will be watching Letterman & Conan.
Eek. You make a good point, the last TBS star to appear on Letterman was George Lopez in a desperate bid for higher ratings a few months before he was cancelled.

Conan’s no doubt looking for the day when Dave retires so he can fight his way back to Network. But now he’s probably behind both Fallon and Kimmel (And Jon Stewart). In truth, Dave retired some years ago, but he has nothing else to do so he keeps coming in.
The ratings for both their shows are in the toilet, I’m sure they’ll trash NBC…which is fine with me.

Jon Stewart was passed on by CBS. He was also passed on by Lorne Michels at SNL for the news guy. Jon is a nice guy but not entirely that funny. Never has been. He’s a good news talking head. Bout it. I know it’s cool to get behind Jon but some times some truth feels good. As for Kimmel. A prime example of the mediocre times we live in. Not the fifth funniest guy on my dorm room floor. In fact this guy is middle of the pack across board. Yes, he found his way into the “mediocre elite.” Lots of them today. Doesn’t matter. For Kimmel he’s living large and his dream and will be long forgotten and dead when nobody remembers him. There are talents. Johnny Carson was one. Charlie Rose is another. Mike Wallace another. Leno, yes! Don’t love his work but he’s got it. Bill O’Reilly, Bill Mahr, Howard Stern…Genius. Guys like Kimmel need to move over and let others have go at it.

CBS should give Conan the Late Late Late Show.
Conans great! If I remember right, Jay and the NBC suits agreed to give Conan the Tonight Show five years before to avoid the same situation between Letterman and Leno. But something went wrong when Jay got poor ratings on his show that aired before Conans Tonight show. I think Conan got a raw deal there somewhere.
