UPDATE: Director David Yates has confirmed his withdrawal from the helm of Your Voice In My Head, which Deadline revealed yesterday. He has issued this statement: “Unfortunately, due to conflicting schedules and ongoing commitments in the narrow window I was hoping to make this film, it has become no longer possible for me to direct ‘Your Voice in My Head.’ I am sincerely sorry to be leaving such a fantastic project, and I wish producer Alison Owen and everyone involved the very best for what I am sure will be a distinctive film.”
EARLIER, 2:07 pm, EDT: David Yates is exiting Your Voice In My Head, the Warner Bros film that had been expected to be his next movie after completing the Harry Potter series. I’m told that Yates dropped out for personal reasons involving a family health situation. Yates was going to do the film with his Potter star Emma Watson and wanted to postpone, but the writers and producers didn’t want to wait.
I wonder how crazy the studio will be about going forward without him. Beyond Chris Nolan and Ben Affleck, Warner Bros tends to bring every script it has to Yates, and that was a primary reason the studio was interested. Your Voice In My Head is the Emma Forrest-scripted drama based on the scribe’s memoir. Watson is playing a young woman who attempts suicide before being saved by a New York-based psychiatrist who’s dying of cancer. Watson and Yates worked together on the last four Harry Potter films. Yates was eyeing a big star to play the male lead, with Stanley Tucci mentioned as one of the possibles. Yates might now do A Reliable Wife at Sony when he is ready to return to work.

Family comes first…hopefully it isn’t anything too serious.
So he dropped out for family health reasons but ii doing a film at Sony instead?
Hmmmm
“when he is ready to work.” Maybe try reading the whole article. Hmmmmmmm?
“conflicting schedules” means he’d rather do the Sony flick now.
I wish David and his family well. I hope Emma stays on board.
Sucks for Emma. This would be her first true starring role after Potter. Who knows if she will get such a good project like this any time soon.
Guilliermo Del Toro’s Beauty and the beast! That’s Guilliermo’s next project after he is done with Pacific Rim(next year)!
Also Warnen has big oscar plans for this movie.I don’ say that Watson will be nominated but they have high hopes for the male lead for an oscar!
I guess it’s the indie that Warner will push at the oscars!
So expect them to look for an A-list director!I think that Patty Jenkins would be great to helm a think like that! She is great doing film like have as a main theme the struggle of a woman!
Now i’m actually thinking that Charlize Theron should play Emma Forrest!
Anyway,Emma has pretty big gigs in her schedule! And she is the lead in 4 out of the 6! And come on who will think that Logan Lerman is the actual star of the perks of being a wallflower?
Nicest, kindest man in showbusiness bar none. Wish him and his family grace and mercy.
All is well that ends well. I hope justice is done to the book with or without David.
Emma is still in the movie.
Can they get Emma Watson out of this too?
She’s not the kind of actress capable of pulling of this without overacting hello Keira Knightley.
