This looks like “Don’t Mess with the Zohan”, but much worse. It will be interesting to see if all the publicity and marketing brings back the SBC audience or just increases the potential loss.
Potential loss?
Borat cost $18M and made over $260M. Bruno at $22M made $138M with a very controversial theme and dancing genitalia. Low budgets make green-lighting and recoup a no-brainer. It isn’t the marketing budget that makes his films money. His movies aren’t for everyone, but he definitely gives his fans what they want; his audience would follow him just about anywhere.
Sorry still stupid and embarrassing for all involved. Hopefully this will flop so badly that we won’t have to see Sacha star in any more of these contrived vehicles. He needs to stop with the foreign shtick characters they are getting worse and worse. Borat was brilliant and original. Bruno was terrible and painful and this looks simply awful and horrible without any genuine humor it’s all cliched stereotypes.
I don’t think it looks great or terrible. I’ll see it eventually but it’s not a “must see in theater” movie for me.
i’m a sacha fan and probably won’t go see this. the 9/11 helicopter joke isn’t funny. the shtick this time goes too far.
Saw it. Loved it. Who needs dictators with current democracies.
SBC has done some very funny stuff in the past. This looks dreadful.
this trailer is LIGHTYEARS better than the previously released ones that i’ve seen – which doesn’t mean much but i’m just sayin…
i would go as far as to say the earlier trailers may have done more harm than good to the forthcoming opening – i could barely force myself to click on this one and watch it and i was a huge fan of da ali g show.
Sold. The 911 joke killed me.
production budget maybe small, but paramount is spending a shit-ton on marketing.
sbc is brilliant, but feels like the same shtick over and over. Sadam is out Qhadaffi (spelled wrong, sorry) is out — just doesn’t seem timely anymore.
So, they took the “Coming To America” script and cut, pasted, and edited for a North African dictator and updated the fish-out-of-water jokes for today’s NYC.
You see how easy it is to do this?
