This won’t come as a surprise to anyone who sat through the credits of The Avengers, or who simply looked at the film’s record-breaking box office sales this past weekend. Still, fans (and investors) will be glad to hear that Disney CEO Bob Iger just announced that the company is developing a sequel. The film’s success “is a great illustration of why we like Marvel so much.” Demand for Avengers merchandise has been strong, he added.

World announces “Duh.”
Take that, DC!
1st of all why would you say take tthat DC?? competion is healthy not matter what it is, but when The Dark Knight Rises comes out lets see you make a stupid comment like that again!! Because I unlike IDIOTS like you know that when The Dark Knight Rises comes out its going to blow the shit out of the Avengers, 2nd of all the avengers wasnt even that great
Bet you didn’t notice this, but pretty much every DC movie sucks. Maybe they would be better if they followed anything canon at all ever, but nope. I mean come on, the main boss at the end of Superman Returns was a rock. Seriously. A giant rock. And don’t get me started on Green Lantern. The recent Batman movies were good, they just weren’t really Batman.
“weren’t really Batman”
Is the 60′s TV show a comedy trainwreck supposed to be more like Batman. With the Cesar Romero? Seriously?
You are drunk off your @$$ if you think the dark knight rises is going to do better than the avengers. first off, it has made more money than twilight and avatar. secondly, there are WAY more fans of Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, and Thor than there are fans of batman. They literally dragged batman out enough, didnt they make like 15 remakes and reboots? Also the trailer sucked. It was a huge disappointment. So think twice before you go ahead and say something dumb like that.
Are you one of those people who was expecting to see all of the best parts of the movie wrapped up in ONE trailer? Is that why you thought it sucked? Hmmm.
1) Fans of Hulk and and Iron Man…maybe. And that’s a strong maybe because while people may have knew of Iron Man his global popularity really didn’t pickup until his first movie came out and EVERYONE knows that AND I defy you to think otherwise. But Thor and the Captain??? Another lofty, unrelatable godlike character with too much power and a star-spangled shield-slinger during a time when half the world is pretty much yay and the other half is nay for the U.S. Yeah,THEY’VE had longtime fans BEFORE this movie. Riiiight.
2 Overall, I really don’t give that much of a f**k about Twilight or Avatar because VAMPIRES DON’T GLITTER(wtf? gay…that shit was OBVIOUSLY made for chicks) and ten-foot tall blue tiger ppl having sex with their tails is kinda f**kin ridiculous.
3) If you wanna hate on DC*,just come right out and say it. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’d certainly be more honest than all of morbidly obese CRAPOSITY you were trying to spill in talking up Marvel. Don’t get me wrong,Marvel kicks ass too…but some of their ppl just don’t rank with DC*’s—ESPECIALLY the BAT. You thought Avengers was something, wait until Justice League takes the stage. Only then will you be allowed to redeem yourself and pledge your soul to DC* Comics like anyone else with half a brain.
Exactly! And why couldn’t they fix Captain America’s cowl problem? Half the time the costume actually looked better without the mask. Sad.
First off get your head out of your ass. Second Batman “The Dark Knight” is mediocre. The Avengengers was incredible and very entertainig. I can say there is no comparing between the two.
Took them long enough.
Man, no one saw this coming.
Of course it is not a surprise but I liked the movie and hope Joss comes back.
If they do a single thing without Joss they are outside their minds.
They better not RUSH development. There better be very well made Iron Man 3, Thor 2, and Captain America 2 before Avengers 2.
ALSO Ant-Man and/or Black Panther films would be nice too. Add to the roster.
How do you expect captain america 2 to ome out? its impossible. right after he was found in the future at the end of the movie he automatically was put into SHIELDS . He was the First AVENGER.. DUH!!!!! SO THERES NO CAPTAIN AMERICA 2
Captain America 2 has already been announced with a release date of April 2, 2014. The story hasn’t been finalized, but Steve Rogers will be staying with Nick Fury and SHIELD, just as the character did when he reawakened in the 1960s comic series.
Oops! [or is it D'OH!]
Captain America 2 has already been set for April, 2014.
Yes. Ant man and YEs Black Panther. and don’t forget SHE HULK.
I hope Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would be picked to play Black Panther. And then a few weeks before The Avengers 2 will be shown in theaters, they will all be guest stars in WWE Raw where they will have a match against a couple of WWE Superstars.
I can’t really see him being panther. He doesn’t fit the role.
All together now:
Why Am I Not Surprised?
What, no “TOLDJA!”? I feel cheated.
Eases the financial sting of JOHN CARTER.
damn straight.
Of course there’s going to be a Captain America 2, just as there’s going to be a Thor 2, and an Iron Man 3.
Also, could you clarify your logic because what does Cap working with S.H.I.E.L.D have to do with a sequel?
This reply is mean for HayItsGio. Weird.
In other news, rain is wet.
And make mine Marvel.
I never thought the question was “will they make a sequel”, the question I always (and still do) have is: Will Joss Whedon return?
lets see how many times we can echo the last few comments…. TOLDJA!!
Took my kids to see Avengers last night – excellent flick, first time in a LONG time that I felt like I got my money’s worth out of a movie.
Yes, Avengers 2 has been green lighted – but the real question is will Joss Whedon be apart of it again? I sure hope so!
Now just hope they sitck with Joss Whedon because if not…
If they are AT ALL smart the first thing is to lock Whedon down right now. Whatever it takes to get him to write/direct again.
I hope that they offer the job for a 2nd movie because his script is the reason it is doing so well. His comic timing and pacing made this a great fun movie.
No surprise here. I hope they go with Kang the Conqueror as the next villain. Dr. Doom would be very cool as well but I associate him more with the Fantastic Four who desperately need a proper reboot.
I hope they don’t make the mistake of adding more Avengers. It was a masterful balancing act of all those characters. To throw in more “heroes” courts disaster. X3 being a strong cautionary tale.
1. Awesome! 2. No go w/o Joss. 3. Needs a couple of more female characters. 4. Adding Wasp/Janet Van Dyne and increasing Maria Hill’s role would fulfill that nicely!
They should add the Wasp, yes, but Hill should be booted off to the sidelines with SHIELD since she was never a hero. Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch or Monica Rambeau/Photon, both of whom were longtime members of the Avengers, can fill the need for heroines quite nicely.
Marvel will replace Joss because they don’t want to be in the business of paying filmmakers. The press release concerning their record breaking opening weekend barely mentioned him. That was not by accident. It’s part of their corporate culture and business model. People will still see the sequel but it won’t hold a candle to the original. They should back a truck filled with cash up to his front door right now like Warners did to Snyder after 300 opened.
Whatever. Morons like you bitched about Joss Whedon getting the job over someone like Jon Favreau. Marvel slummed and went for a cheap choice like Joss Whedon instead of Favreau blah blah blah. Favreau ended up doing Cowboys and Aliens and Whedon knocked it out of the park.
Feige said they have an option on Whedon to direct the sequel so we shall see.
The way I see it, Marvel Studios’ model and directing choices have worked pretty well for them so far.
The point is to people like you, Marvel can never do it right. First it’s oh Whedon is not qualified to do this movie and he was a cheap choice instead of getting a bigger more experienced director like Favreau. And now they are automatically trying to fire Whedon now that they’ve struck gold with this movie.
Good comeback, Marvel Historian.
great news. the vision please!
Throw down the Gauntlet, Joss!
Enjoyed the movie a hell of a lot, so yippee…However, the credit scene points to Thanos as the next villain and I feel doing another alien invasion story is kind of redundant. Hope they go a different way next time out.
Including Thanos was Joss’ idea, so I can’t imagine he’s not doing the sequel…
