EXCLUSIVE: Brenton Thwaites has been set as the prince in Maleficent, the Robert Stromberg-directed Disney film that stars Angelina Jolie as the title character and Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora. Who is Thwaites? He’s here from Australia, where he played a role in the Aussie TV series Home And Away, which got him the Lifetime Channel film Blue Lagoon: The Awakening. That film, which he shot with fellow Australian Indiana Evans, will be released next month. Before that he played in the TV drama SLiDE in Australia, which was his breakout role. He is repped by WME and managed by Industry Entertainment and Australia-based Shanahan Management.

The casting of this movie remains a mystery. Maybe it’s all mo-cap? Where everyone remains anonymous, because they won’t even be recognizable anyway?
Well, isn’t he just attractive. Aussie takeover is in full force. I’m looking forward to this story.
He’s even more attractive and sweet in person. Such a nice guy, so happy for him
Elle Fanning the Princess is only 13 years old lover boy looks close to an 18 years old adult.
He is in fact much older then Elle fanning, who is 14, Brenton Thwaites is actually 22. But in the actual Disney Movie the prince was 11 when the princess was born. So one could say the director is being very true to the original film.
I first read the title as “Disney Clown Prince” and thought it was going to be a much different article.
I.m.d.b page of the movie has everyone’s name. Never heared of him but he looks cute.
That list can’t be everyone, because aside from Jolie, it is no one. We’re all still waiting for some real names to be added.
Angelina who? I thought she was just brad pitts worker bee.
Well he’s attractive, I mean damn!
He looks standard issue Disney channel. Lizzie McGuire must have been like porn to you.
Lizzie McGuire was porn for an entire generation of kids who watched it and fantasized about being with the girls and the boys on that show. Kids get crushes on anyone who’s on TV and when it’s kids their own age they become infatuated and yes they do fantasize. If you grew up watching Full House or the Brady Bunch depending on how old you are then you know this is true.
The film seems like an enormous gamble. It won’t be out until 2014 – who’s to say the desire to watch reworked fairy tales won’t be completely gone by that point?
um, the fact that they’re keep re-making them…?
Hansel & Gretel, Red Riding Hood, A Cinderella Story 1 2 & 3…
just saying… :3
That very well may be true, Rex, but the desire to watch Angelina Jolie in a slinky, bad girl lead role will NEVER run out. At least not this decade.
Angelina really comes off as desperately chasing Charlize on this movie. I get it, she hasn’t gotten a huge paycheck since SALT, but if this movie doesn’t work, how many more at-bats does she really have to launch an action/fsntasy franchise? It’s very interesting how unorginal a movie this is shaping up to be at the moment, abd if it fails, it will all be blamed on Angelina.
Angelina got a very healthy check for The Tourist which made almost $300mil and which was her last acting film almost 3 years ago. She directed the film she wrote in an extremely short 42 day filmshoot 2 years ago. She keeps saying in interviews that she wants to work less in films and spend more time with her family. She has turned down a number of roles in the last 2+ years such as Gravity and Serena to name a few. I doubt she is aiming to launch a franchise of any kind.
According to Angelina herself in a recent interview she is making Maleficent because her daughter Shiloh wants her to do so. So it does not seem to me that she is chasing Charlize or Julia or anyone else at this point in her career as it will be like 4 years before she is on screen again since The Tourist as Maleficent is the only film she is scheduled to make at this time. Brad appears to be the family worker bee.
A young Brad Pitt. Someone better watch out !
Aren’t there any American actors around? How about some of these Iraq vets? Give them some acting classes and maybe we’d be able to find some new blood that is masculine enough to be leading men without outsourcing the job.
Terrible Casting!.. Another Aussie for an American Film… Sad really…
Just watch Blue Lagoon The Awakening and you will see why he was chosen for the prince. They probably will be using english accents and Brenton can do that. Nevertheless, he is a very good young actor, is 23, and has some good experience in Australia in various shows. He was the perfect hero in BL and was as handsome and fit as you could ever want a person to be. So give Brenton a chance. I know he will be have a good push on his career by making this movie-major,major, major.
I loved Brenton when he was in SLiDE and he was great in The Blue Lagoon remake.Very handsome and charismatic.Soo happy he’s finally getting his big break in Hollywood.Congrats Brenton!
