Not surprisingly, Disney has put the brakes on Order Of The Seven, the umpteenth installment of a revisionist Snow White telling, which had commercials helmer Michael Gracey attached. This film had Soairse Ronan aboard to play the lead female in a film that took place in Asia, with a samurai theme and an international cast. The project has been gestating at the studio for a decade, but after the under-performing Mirror Mirror and the upcoming Snow White And The Hunstman, did we really need more? The excuse I’m told was that the picture imploded over a budget in the $150 million range or higher, but even though this telling veered into its own direction, these fairy tales are being beaten like rented mules by Hollywood.

Don’t forget TV ‘Once Upon A Time’ and ‘Grimm’. If I hear the words Snow White again…
“Grimm” is about fairy tale characters but Snow White has yet to be referenced on that show
And yet CW, always late to the party, is still jumping on this dead bandwagon.
Dear Mr. Fleming: apparently you’re not aware of the fantastic buzz for Snow White and the Huntsman…I think it’s safe to say the film will not be beaten like a rented mule but rather be ridden like a champion stallion to box office gold. I’ve seen it already and it’s GOOD!

I ask because that’s the only way someone could say something so stupid.
The Avengers is going to ROLL OVER the competition this weekend…AGAIN.
There is men in black this week end and while the Avengers will still do well it be at the first place again

Good riddance. MIRROR MIRROR was a complete disaster. Snow White and the Huntsman is shaping up to follow in its footsteps. When will casting directors learn that Kristen Stewart can’t act and has no charisma? Robert Pattinson is the only Twilight kid with a foreseeable future.
That disaster Mirror, Mirror, made $159,495,574 worldwide, doing much better overseas than it did domestically. It’s was a children’s movie, and SWATH is not a movie for kids. Too bad it’s not a movie or adults, either, and it will never live up to the hype. Stewart has never been able to carry a movie on her own, and she can’t carry this one, either, not even with the help of Thor and Oscar winner, Theron.
The promo has all been bait and switch, since they’ve tried to hide the fact that Stewart is in the movie, and make it look like it’s all about the Evil Queen. But Charlize is only in the first 15 minutes and then disappears and it turns into one long chase through the forest and fight movie. Hemsworth and Stewart have zero chemistry, and there’s no way anyone is going to believe poor prince charming falls for Stewart clad in armor. Even with fake hair she’s not the fairest of them all, not by a longshot. Horrible casting, and a first time director who doesn’t know what he’s doing.

A friend dragged me to the movies to see “Mirror Mirror”, and I actually loved it. I was surprised and happy afterwards. Maybe it didn’t get marketed enough, the right way, or maybe another movie was out during that time that had more buzz, but I thought it was a good movie.
Seriously, we needed this about as much as we need another exorcism movie….
Sounds dreadful…Good decision.

We will make this silly movie eventually it will be filmed entirely in Mandarin there won’t be any English language version ever and we will only release it in China and Japan and South Korea. We will make it for a very low price and we can make a fortune from those Asian countries alone.

What is really sad about this whole affair is that they had the jump on everyone for a decade. They bought the original script, which was by all accounts, a well conceived and well executed idea entitled “Snow White and the Seven Shaolin” TEN YEARS AGO. And now, after who knows how much money they’ve spent on producers, rewrite after rewrite after rewrite (can someone out there give me an actual count of how many writers they put on this thing?), artwork and everything else that goes through development hell…
It goes bye-bye.

Important to acknowledge the element that made development more complicated than the other Snow White movies — Disney’s first co-production with China. Lots of weird moving parts and agendas internal and external to bog down things. Still, something must have been flawed with the conceit for so many writers to have worked on.
Not surprised, this fairy tale fad has been beaten like a dead horse, not to mention both Mitror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsmen are abominations, bad acting etc. Getting terrible reviews.

Yes, Mirror Mirror was a complete disaster but SW&Huntsman looks decent. Time to move on from Snow White stories though (although Saoirse is a fine young actress.)Maleficent could be more overkill but its supporting cast suggests a more intriguing storyline.
Maleficent’s supporting cast is weak. It really surprised me when they were announced. I thought the studio would put more juice into it, but they seem content to let it quietly die. Nobody but Jolie has ever opened a movie or even carried a TV show. SWATH has Hemsworth as backup. ALICE had Hathaway. MALEFICENT has nothing. They are literally backing Jolie up with nothing. It is almost shocking.
I must have stepped through the looking glass if Miranda Richardson, Imelda Staunton, Lesley Manville are considered “weak”.
Name the movies opened or TV shows carried by your “stars” then, if they aren’t weak. SWATH has Hemsworth as BACKUP. ALICE had Hathaway in supporting. Smart casting of supporting roles with actors who have opened their own movies. Snowconfused’s “stars” couldn’t open a 7-eleven, and everybody knows it. This film is in trouble already.
There is no support in Maleficent’s supporting cast. LOL. Poor Angie is getting no help.
To back up Hen Wai’s point…10 years to get this out of the gate, and go from 1st to last as usual.
These guys take longer to develop a movie than Kodak takes develop super 8mm.

Come on, Disney! Let’s see some sports biopics/family comedies. They cost so much less than the 150M big budgets & they continually have a good run on cable.
good. I am sick of Disney trying to remake their classic animated features. They”re never going to top their originals. I understand other studios wanting to do it, but when Disney already has the definitive version, why make a sub par remake? They butchered Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent will probably be lack luster, they’re remaking the Wind in the WIllows in CGI, enough! It’s been one bad decision after the next in the company I once stuck by no matter what.
They took the ‘Walt’ out of “Walt Disney Pictures”
Their films have been underwhelming lately
They’re ruining the majestic Animal Kingdom by building Avatar land
They’ve destroyed ABC (or at least their daytime)
Their blu-ray releases have significantly gone down in quality

They may have butchered Alice but I don’t think anyone at the studio is crying considering it made a billion dollars… And I’m guessing the Avatar Land will be a great hit for them honestly. I wouldn’t mind going to Pandora. I also assume you are referring to the soaps that have disappeared off ABC daytime…please get over it already. They aren’t coming back and ABC is doing fine. Disney is one of the most successful companies on the planet..I’m not quite sure how you want them to get there act together but I’m sure they’ll laugh at you all the way to the bank
I never said the studio wasn’t doing good financially. I know they’re doing very well. However, in terms of quality, they have diminished. The great thing about Disney was that it meant quality in everything they did, as well as making a hefty profit.
As a viewer and Disney fan, I most concerned about their releases and company being top quality. I’m more concerned that a film be good than it making Disney a ton of money. They used to have a good balance. I’m sure Avatar Land will be a great success, but none the less I find it in very poor taste to put a permant land of a film that only recently came out (Star Wars doesn’t even have it’s own land) and that is a non disney film. Not to mention, the once beautiful Animal Kingdom will now be cheapened by an attraction that if anywhere belongs in Hollywood Studios.
And as far as ABC Daytime, I’m not even a big fan of the soaps, but once again it’s a matter of quality. The new shows are atrocious, and The Revolution was getting less than half the ratings of the prior show. ABC Daytime is a wreck (not that the primetime has much to brag about either). My point is that I’m sick of Disney investing in outside brands, over-budgeted tentpole films, and cheap programming.
Okay, fairy tales have been beatened to death but 3-5 years from now, they’ll be back again. I always wondered why Disney does just do a live action of the original “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs?” I suppose they would have to freshen up some of the songs and dialogue but technically they could do everything that was in cartoon as live action. Then onward to “Pinoccio,” “Dumbo,”, “Peter Pan,” etc. Maybe even Fantasia?
One of the best scripts (and its not a Snow White or fairy tale movie at all) I’ve read in a long time, certainly better than the dreck that is Maleficent. The state of Disney is very sad.

Ah samurai thing? Good thing they stopped it. I just hate the fact that every major studio, capitalizes to the popular fairytales made by Disney. I mean, can’t they find their own?!
SNOW WHITE AND THE LIVING DEAD. its gonna be awesome. snow white. a huntsman 7 dwarves. evil zombies. an exorcism. and the entire thing turns out to be found footage that some intern at disney discovered and brought to the studio. oh yeah…and its in 3D.
Why not do the same story without the Snow White tie-in? Girl/princess gets expelled from her land by Evil Magician, finds seven samurai to help her get back the throne and restore good. Just because the Snow White name is played out, doesn’t mean you have to kill an interesting concept.
Oh, and whoever said “Snow White” looks good… LOL. Although I am entertained by the key concept of the movie being that Charlize Theron is jealous of Kirsten Stewart’s good looks. Nice one.
