Never known for subtlety in its Emmy campaigns, Family Guy‘s mailer this year echoes the comedy’s provocative 2010 Emmy mailer that featured Peter Griffin as the girl from Precious and the slogan Vote For Us Or You’re Racist. Peter Griffin once again serves as a politically incorrect cover boy, addressing TV Academy voters directly. “Come on, you bloated, overprivileged Brentwood Jews. Let is into your little club,” the mailer reads, referring to an affluent part of Los Angeles where
many high-level entertainment industry types live. Adds Stewie from the inside the mailer, “It’s a secret ballot. You can still tell people you voted for Modern Family.”
Family Guy is once again competing in the best comedy series category. It had been nominated four times for best animated series when in 2009 creator Seth MacFarlane opted to switch it to the best comedy series category. That year, Family Guy landed its first (and last for now)
best comedy series nomination, becoming the first animated series in 48 years to accomplish that. Speaking of Emmy juggernaut Modern Family, which is produced by the same studio as Family Guy, 20th Century Fox TV, the series once again is using its cast photos for the current season’s promo campaign for its mailer. This year, it’s the circus shots the series’ actors took last summer.

Family Guy’s days are past. Sure, it’s still popular, and there might be a good episode now and then, but it’s prime ended a season or two after it got brought back on the air. The show doesn’t deserve an emmy.
If anything, American Dad deserves it more than Family Guy does. The show is under appreciated and it’s writing is consistently funny, even after all of these years.
I think The Family Guy has a hardcore group of fans that absolutely love the show, but if you look at the bigger picture it’s really only 5% of the population. They’re avid fans though, so they continually get good ratings.
It reminds me of The Office. I remember a co-worker raved about it and gave me Season 1 to watch and when I took it home and watched it, I was thinking “Holy S**t, this isn’t funny!”
Then I had to go to work and lie to the person and you know what that got me? F**king Season 2!
I was so happy to get fired from that job…
Nothing like hitting the hand that doesn’t feed you yet.
Unfortunately, the show’s just not funny to anyone over 11. Cute mailer though.
Why is this okay? Y’all burn out on rape jokes?
i cannot think of a more overrated show than modern family. it’s certainly not bad, but my god it’s not that good.
Thank you very much. Good concept, but not very good and definitely not that funny.
First year was great, second year was good, this year is pretty average. Visually it still looks great though, which makes a big difference – people still think they’re seeing the same show.
It was good at first ’cause it was new, different. Now… everything, including the so-called ‘acting’ is overkill. Time to move on.
Call me petty but if The Simpsons brilliant first 5 years didn’t ever win i don’t want the crap that Family Guy (& modern day Simpsons for that matter) to ever win.
Oh hah-hah, that’s just hilarious. Well, here’s the other thing about a secret ballot, putz–you don’t have to pretend to laugh along with an insult disguised as a bad joke.
If there’s one way to piss off an overpriveleged Brentwood Jew, it’s to call one an “overpriveleged Brentwood Jew.”
Anyway a person looks at jokes like these from Family Guy, I think it’s fair to say that they tip-toe the line, crossing the line for a good amount of people.
McFarland seems to be a nice guy and I wonder if he understands that a significant amount of people find those type of lines from his show racist and/or crossing the line. I hope he does and just doesn’t care- it would be better than him doing it out of desperation to be funny or desperation for an Emmy.
I don’t know him, but he doesn’t seem to be that nice a guy to me.
I think it’s safe to say that McFarlane knows exactly what he’s doing (toeing the line) rather than being desperate. Whether people admit it or not, his shows have proven his intelligence. The jokes may be random and sometimes immature, sure, but the guy knows a lot about…well, a lot. He certainly seems to know more about politics and pop culture and history than most people.
MacFarlane.
Modern Family isn’t funny. People just fan over it for the barriers it “brore.”
Man, do I ever not have a horse in this race. Sexual assault jokes combined with comedy torture (not what it sounds like—it just means jokes that go on for fucking-ever) vs. a one camera sitcom with three camera jokes left over from old Just Shoot Me and Frasier scripts.
Parks And Rec, Community, 30 Rock, Eastbound And Down and Girls are the shows that deserve Emmy attention this year. A past-it’s-prime cartoon and a glorified ABC Family Channel sitcom do not.
Never forget…..that family guy just isn’t that funny.
come on all you bitter Catholics from the Hollywood Hills! You can write better jokes than this.
Funny.
Agreed, thats funnier.
In response to some of the previous posts: I think people generally try to shock when they don’t have the talent to be genuinely funny. This is the case here. I still think Modern Family is the best comedy on TV, but it has slipped this season and my hunch is this will be its last Best Comedy Emmy. It seems it is very difficult to maintain quality for a network comedy past 3 seasons as 30 Rock went way downhill after season 3 and Arrested Development was definitely tired into its third (and final) season. Family Guy like The Office still gets viewers because it was once good, but the shows are WAY past their prime. As was said, The Simpsons in its early brilliant seasons should have won an Emmy, but Family Guy’s Emmy grab this go around is pathetic. It’s not even in the top dozen TV comedies let alone the best. But it’s Hollywood, so you can’t blame them for trying.
This requires a full episode where the Griffins move to Brentwood and become bloated overprivileged Jews then they might win an Emmy.
Yes they are.
And no Guy, you won’t be getting any Emmy.
They don’t care if they win or lose (it’s just a statue, folks). They are making millions while they make fun of everyone. I LOVE IT.
I like Family Guy as much as the next guy (as long as the next guy is smart enough to realize the show used to be far funnier than it is now), but the “overpriviledged Brentwood Jews” line is offensive. The Modern Family line is pretty funny, though. Intelligent people don’t mistake “shock” for “humor”.
That said, there are a lot worse things than being offended by Family Guy. It is not like they forced me to watch The Cleveland Show.
While TV shows do have their ups and downs. I think if you actually wrote for TV you wouldn’t be up Modern Family, The Simpsons and Family Guy’s asses the way you all do… just saying
This would be funny…if Family Guy was still even remotely deserving of an Emmy for Best Comedy. A few years ago, maybe. But now it’s just pathetically desperate.
Family Guy? It should get the TV equivalent of the Razzies. Modern Family? Should get nothing as it’s an average show. Community, Parks & Recreation, Happy Endings, Louie should get a spot. Other shows which have no realistic chance but should get attention are Children’s Hospital, Archer, The Life & Times of Tim.
Community and Louie yes, but park and rec and happy endings are weak.
Hey Family Guy: if this is representative of the kind of ‘humor’ on your show, you just made it that much easier to vote for New Girl, Happy Endings, or Parks & Rec.
Of course Family Guy haters would post this crap. If you look at it honestly, the show really has its moments. Even if some moments are racist, it doesnt single out a specific group. Its racist to all ethnicities and religions and has great ratings. If you dont like it, dont watch it and shut up. You dont have to ruin my life or my favorite show.
WOW, You industry Types just can’t take jokes can you. It’s sad that you laugh if it’s not about you or people you know.
There is nothing funny about 30 Rock. Just a group of washed up actors trying to get another 15 minutes.
