Endemol, the world’s largest independent production company, today announced new appointments to the Management Board.

CEO of Endemol UK Tim Hincks has been appointed President of Endemol Group. Chairman and CEO of Endemol France Virginie Calmels has become Chief Operating Officer at Endemol Group.

Hincks and Calmels will report directly to Just Spee, who was appointed CEO of Endemol Group at the beginning of April.

Tim Hincks began his television career in 1990, was appointed CEO of Endemol UK in January 2008, and became a member of Endemol’s International Board in the same year. Under his tenure Endemol’s UK business has grown to become one of the largest independent producers in the country with a strong, diversified output that has delivered some of Endemol’s most recent international hits.

This has included multi-platform big money game shows such as The Million Pound Drop, which has sold to more than 30 countries and has just won the Rose d’Or Award for Best Game Show; The Bank Job, which has this year been nominated for a BAFTA Award and BBC ONE’s daily hit series Pointless, which has been picked up in major European markets. Critically acclaimed drama includes Black Mirror, which has just won the Rose d’Or Award for Best Comedy Program and has recently been picked up in 21 territories worldwide; and Low Winter Sun which won the Royal Television Society Award for Best Drama Serial and is now being remade for AMC in the USA. In 2011 Endemol UK won a total of 92 commissions, 47 of which were new series airing for the first time.

As President of Endemol Group, Hincks will be responsible for overseeing the company’s operations in the US and UK, further building the collaboration and synergy between these key markets, as well as the creation and commercial exploitation of content across the Group’s worldwide network. He will continue to have responsibility for Endemol UK’s business as its Chairman.

Virginie Calmels was appointed as Chairman and CEO of Endemol France in 2007, as well as becoming a member of Endemol’s International Board. Under Virginie’s leadership, Endemol France has established itself as the country’s leading entertainment production company, annually producing over 850 hours of content. Endemol France’s recent credits include hit series for TF1 such as Secret Story, The Money Drop and les 12 Coups de Midi, and Undercover Boss for M6. Calmels also successfully diversified Endemol France by taking it into scripted programming as well as boosting creative output with new formats such as multiplatform game show The Code, which launched at Mip TV in April.

As Chief Operating Officer of Endemol Group, Calmels will be responsible for overseeing Endemol’s operations in the European markets (12 territories, including France) as well as further enhancing the Group’s efficiency. Calmels will have continued responsibility for Endemol France’s business as its Chairman.

Endemol is performing strongly in terms of growth, profitability and creativity with a market leading business spanning formats, scripted programming, distribution, digital media and brands.

In spite of the challenging marketplace the company achieved year on year revenue growth in 2011 of 10% to nearly 1.4bn Euros. This has been driven by a number of factors including significant expansion in scripted programming, where year on year growth was 34%.

Across 2011 Endemol produced 189 formats in all entertainment genres, 56 of which were new shows produced for the first time, whilst its global distribution operation added 1,000 hours of new programming to its catalogue, bringing the total to 24,000 hours.

Other factors included growth in emerging markets, and continued success for established formats such as The Money Drop and Big Brother, which aired in 87 countries in 2011.

The first quarter of 2012 has shown continued, significant growth in terms of revenues and profits.
