EXCLUSIVE… UPDATE: Screen Gems Executive Director of Development John Graham is moving to Insurge Pictures. At Paramount’s low-budget genre label, he’ll be working for Amy Powell as a member of the production group there. Graham has been at Screen Gems since 2005. He began as an assistant in the development/production department and then was promoted to creative 
executive reporting to Screen Gems topper Clint Culpepper. That move marked the first time Screen Gems had created a creative exec position since Culpepper took the reins of the Sony Pictures genre label in 1998. The label has been having incredible success recently with a row of #1 films. Graham worked on all of the studio’s projects in development. Before joining Screen Gems in 2005, he worked in the film development division for MGM Studios. Insurge Pictures was born out of Paramount production boss Adam Goodman’s initiative overseen by Powell to find talent from the Internet following the studio’s success with Paranormal Activity.

i agree that “talent” should be used to describe people with a talent. there is no talent involved in being a hardworking, smart executive. taste, diplomacy, etc… but not talent.

hey MORON! shut the fuck up and grab a dictionary. Talent is associated with creating original artistic material — i.e. painting a picture or composing a song or writing a screenplay. That is what talent means. It does not mean being good at a job and playing well with others and being smart and working lots. It means CREATING ORIGINAL ARTISTIC MATERIAL.
Yup- HW is an out of work talent; hence the hate. If you really believe that a studio exec doesn’t have talent, then you have really boxed yourself into short sided-ness. Yes, it starts with the writer, or director vision first, of course. But studio execs have to also understand creatively how to mold further the project, ie, giving creative perspective to balance what the studio wants, to what the creator has come up with.
If you really think that doesn’t take talent, then your just a hog wash (HW).
i interned at screen gems a few years ago when john was creative exec and he was nothing but nice and helpful – clearly great at what he did and an awesome guy all around. congrats, so happy for you JG!

Yeah, I don’t get it. Say what you will about Screen Gems, at least you’re working with real movie stars and real directors, not really something you’ll be able to say when you’re in the business of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY clones and tween concert films.
