EXCLUSIVE: Along with all the action on the live-action side at Fox this week, with the network picking up new series, renewing and canceling existing ones, Fox also has quietly made a move on the animated side. I’ve learned that within the last few days, Fox has renewed flagship animated comedy Family Guy for an 11th season and American Dad for an eighth. I hear the orders are for 22 epsiodes each. American Dad, which recently returned from hiatus, is in its sixth season on the air, with a full seventh season worth of episodes in the can to begin running in September. The pickups ensure that both Seth MacFarlane series will be on the air at least through the 2013-14 season. By then, Family Guy will have amassed 239 episodes.

Meanwhile, Fox has not picked up the option on a fifth-season renewal for MacFarlane’s third animated series, The Cleveland Show, which is finishing its third season on the air. The series is midway in production on a full fourth season worth of episodes for next fall. Because the show is still in production, the network has opted to postpone a decision on a fifth season to see how its schedule shakes out in the fall. The series, a spinoff from Family Guy, has been sold in off-network syndication to Adult Swim for a fall 2013 launch. Of the other Fox animated series, The Simpsons has a two-year renewal, Bob’s Burgers‘ third season pickup was announced in January, Allen Gregory has been canceled, and Napoleon Dynamite is still on the bubble.

Any word on Bob’s Burgers?
You neglect to mention Bob’s Burgers.
What about Bob’s Burgers? That’s actually the only Fox animated show I even care about.
Bob’s Burgers has been picked up for a third season in January, according to the article.
Nellie, no mention of Bob’s Burgers (which has 13 episodes in the can to air in the fall, but otherwise isn’t really pulling its weight ratings-rise and so would be an unlikely renewal) in the article posted above?
Bob’s Burger’s has enough for it to be in the schedule next year. Still, a renewal would be nice!
I believe The Simpsons is FOX’s flagship animated show.
You’re kidding, right? That show hasn’t been any good in ten years and is completely irrelevant.
American Dad yessssssssssssssssssss, yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss, yesssssssssssssssss.
Mate, I couldn’t agree more. Yes, yes, yes to more American Dad.
Fox should pick up Bob’s Burgers and Napoleon Dynamite. Both are a refreshing departure from Seth MacFarlane-ville and deserve more time to grow.
American Dad has quietly become the best of the Sunday Fox shows, and one of the funniest shows on TV. It isn’t for everyone (especially those who don’t find the extremely absurd funny) but it is a great show.
Meanwhile, The Cleveland Show is nowhere near the level that Family Guy used to be at (and everyone knows Family Guy has fallen off a lot in quality). Nice to see the execs at Fox noticing what belongs on the schedule.
Stopped watching American Dad years ago, stopped watching The Cleveland Show right around the first episode. Hoping Bobs Burgers gets renewed as I’ve just discovered it and love it, very funny stuff.
Then you’re missing out.
Bob’s Burgers is the best. Hope it gets renewed.
Im glad American Dad is returning. I never knew it wouldn’t. I love Roger.
No one cares about your poor choices in viewership. That being said, watch American Dad. It’s Seth’s best show right now.
Translation… The Cleveland Show is cancelled, but don’t tell the artists so they still work hard on the episodes remaining.
BOBS BURGERS IS RENEWED! Season 3 is on it’s way!!! Hurray!
Just cancel The Cleveland Show. It is painfully bad. And you can flush Bob’s Burgers and Napoleon Dynamite down the same toilet.
According to this article Bob’s Burgers was already renewed.
Napoleon Dynamite was hilarious… damned clever writing and solid actors making the transition from a funny, quirky movie to a very funny and quirky animated show.
Actually, I’ve never seen news on Bob’s Burgers being renewed for a third season, and unless I’m given full confirmation, I think that the third season that this article is talking about is referring to the remaining thirteen episodes from season two that will air this fall.
Really enjoy Bob’s Burgers…….It is a refreshing change to the Fox lineup. Looking forward to seeing it continue to grow and mature as a show!
I like American Dad…it seems like Roger is the only character getting funnier. Family Guy will stay on forever, thats a no brainer. Bob’s Burger’s is sort of improving. The Cleveland Show is good…the writing is getting a little better. Characters from Family Guy should visit a little more often.
American Dad is secretly the best of the bunch. So glad to see it coming back.
Me too. Love that American Dad with all my heart. Can’t understand why it’s so underrated while Family Guy is so random and, nowadays, dead in the water and The Cleveland Show is too tame and forced. American Dad always stays on track with storylines and jokes.
Paul Lynde called, he’d like his personality back from Roger.
Hey I actually LIKED Allen Gregory! They should have kept that one! I also love Family Guy and American dad!
cancel cleveland and bring back king of the hill.. only epoisode people went mad on was the cameo of hank hill… theres still life there come on
