Gabriel Byrne has been cast as Earl Haraldson in History channel’s first scripted series, Vikings, which premieres in 2013. Byrne will play a powerful figure in the historical telling of the Norsemen who raided and explored during Medieval times. He goes against the story’s protagonist, Ragnar Lothrok. Vikings is a 10-episode drama from MGM TV and The Tudors and Camelot masterminds Michael Hirst and Morgan O’Sullivan. Other executive producers on the series include John Weber of Take 5 Productions, Sherry Marsh, Alan Gasmer, James Flynn and Sheila Hockin. As with Hirst and O’Sullivan’s other productions, it’s an Irish/Canadian co-production. History has U.S. rights; MGM TV has most international rights.

Nice coup for history channel
LO-HOVE Gabriel! GREAT casting!
Intriguing actor in an intriguing series.
Gasmer and Co are on a roll!
Congratulasions!! I am expecting to see GB.
Love Gabriel Byrne. Excited to see him in this period of history.
Sounds like a great show, but whats History Channel gonna do about all their shitty reality shows that are on 22 hours a day? Gee, you think this may take some time away from those daily marathons?
Great casting choice! I loved him in In Treatment. Vikings is sounding better and better the more I hear about it. Hopefully this turns out to be more like Game of Thrones than Pillars of the Earth.
Hopefully this is the history channels direction. The have so much crap on there now.Sounds like a good show. They could use more of this
go gaz go
Oh, Gabriel. Wasn’t being in Excalibur more than enough of this nonsense for you?
Gabriel! Where ya been? Hurry back onto TV– we need you!
I hope they do better than they did on The Tudors, which was a bigt, trashyt mess.
WhetherTom Regan orDean Keaton one of my favorite all time actors; I’m looking for this is to be a big success just like Hatfield/McCoys; we need more of this type entertainment instead of the garbage which infiltrates the tube!
I can’t wait for the vikings. It looks so good!
Excellent , addictive to watch.
Agreed.
