UPDATE: Insiders now tell Deadline that Thursday’s fundraiser at George Clooney’s Studio City home now has reached close to $15 million. The breakdown when the total was at $14.5M equaled $6M raised for the dinner and $8.5M for the accompanying online raffle which attracted general public donations for a chance to attend by leveraging Hollywood star power. In actuality, the fundraising dinner co-hosted by Obama bundler Jeffrey Katzenberg and organized by his political right-hand Andy Spahn is attracting an expected 150 Democrats ticket-price guests
who come from a number of industries in Los Angeles besides showbiz including finance, law and healthcare. They spent $40,000 per ticket for the Wolfgang Puck-catered dinner at Clooney’s canyon home. It’s the largest amount ever raised for a single Obama campaign event. And that exceeds the sum that the Obama campaign raised from the entire entertainment industry in the 2008 presidential race when Hollywood types were slow to embrace Obama as their candidate over Hillary Clinton. Meanwhile news reports are branding the fundraiser ‘Starmeggedon’ because of the traffic mess it’s expected to cause in the surrounding areas.

Like throwing money out the window! Nov. prediction: Romney 56% Obama 43% Green Party 1%. Most of the undecided vote in past Pres. elections goes to the challenger. Look it up and stop wasting money on O! And I’m not a Republican!
Historically, you are correct. Up until about 2004, undecideds used to break about 2-1 for the challenger against an incumbent. That stopped with Kerry (undecideds broke heavily for the President) and hasn’t really returned. Notably, undecideds broke heavily for Harry Reid in his last race, and he’s the least inspiring figure on Earth.
To be fair though, Reid’s opponent was a total whackjob. It absolutely baffles me on how the Republicans nominated the only person in the state who could lose to Harry Reid.
More like Romney 53% and Obama 47%. In other words a reversal of the 2008 results. The electoral college will be much closer it will be a squeaker with Romney getting just enough to win, he needs 270 he will get between 275 and 280 votes. Or it could be a reversal of 2000 with Romney winning the popular vote and Obama getting lucky with 272 electoral college votes. That would be hilarious if it happens.
It’s beyond ludicrous to try to speculate such precision this far out; but the electoral college contours are becoming clearer. Mitt Romney will not be competitive in Michigan and probably not in Pennsylvania. Obama will not be competitive in NC or Indiana, states he carried in 2008 but doesn’t need anymore. The big prizes are Ohio and Florida, states Obama is currently polling ahead of Romney in, but keep in mind there are scenarios where Obama wins even by losing BOTH Florida and Ohio.
Tell that to Al Gore….such polling is meaningless. We live in an Electoral College democracy whereas Obama is the clear frontrunner, and the Republicans know it.
$15M for the Obama campaign!..I hope humanitarium Mr. Clooney is planning to match this amount for philanthropic projects. If not, I will not be seeing his next blockbuster film or he is dreaming of a Cabinet position?? Remember, Mr. Clooney, both Republicans and Democrats watch your movies…..don’t cross America.
I live in Sherman Oaks, so at the traffic will be a nightmare all day Thursday. Screw Clooney. His arrogance knows no bounds.
Do you even know George Clooney?
Rosemary Clooney’s little nephew, n’est ce pas?
The man has gone to Afica to try and help stop a genocide. What have you done lately.
Wishful thinking on your part, The Truth. I think the public is tired of the “block everything” party that Romney represents.
Yes, they’re more inclined to vote for a man who has had U-6 unemployment of 15% his entire term – and had two years when he had the House and Senate in his back pocket.
Unemployment’s down, jobles claims are down and about all the leading economic indicators are up.
Wishing Obama will fail now will be no more successful than wishing he’d lose 4 years ago.
And Romney’s bigget problem is Republicans themselves. His past stances on gay marriage and abortion and his weak stance on national defense will make GOP voters apathetic to voiting for him.
And can the party of bigotry actually put aside their motivate-the-vote-through-hate philosophy long enough to vote for a Mormon?
You fool no one but yourself if you say they can.
This will be 1996 all over again. Go through the motions of supporting a candaidate you don’t like while you see who’ll emerge asa contender for the NEXT election.
Yeah that explains why Mourdock won in Indiana as a Tea Party Candidate and threw out a serial compromiser like Dick Luger in a land slide.
“Serial compromiser”? Yes, the nerve of Luger to compromise and work together across party lines to reach consensus and keep government working for the people.
But I’m sure things will be much better with more people in congress who refuse to compromise.
Supporting gay marriage? Check. A big glitzy fundraiser with Hollywood liberals at George Clooney’s house? Check.
Hello, my name is Barack Obama and I am an out of touch liberal. Do you remember when such fundraisers were kept on the down low? Because, you know, it might offend people during tough economic times. Obama doesn’t have much of an ear for politics? I think he’s the only one living in a bubble.
When the hell were candidates able to keep fundraisers “on the down low?” That’s just silliness. All the Republican candidates have been as shameless in raking in cash as any good politician. That’s what makes them all a bit slimy, which is why smart Americans would like to see publicly-funded elections. The ONLY reason Romney beat Santorum is the crazy amount of outspending his campaign did in the primaries. Right now, the fundraising is gross, on both sides, but a necessary evil for one to win.
“…might offend people during tough ecconomic times…” yeah – just like a ultra-rich GOP candidate who won’t even do his banking in the US – he has accounts in the West Indies, as reported by AP. And doesn’t mind firing people either. Come on, cut the HYPOCRISY.
well said. thanks
Check your records again there bud, who has more offshore accounts in government? Does the name Charlie Rangel, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid ring a bell? Nahh, didnt think so.
How is supporting gay marriage out of touch? I’m not gay, myself, but anyone who would oppose it is severely out of touch with reality.
Agreed Jack M. And Obama has packed that impression in with a shovel over and over again. The Republicans take the bait every time so it’s easy for him to do so with the presidential leverage he has over the media.
GEORGE CLOONEY SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED TO BE RAISING 15 million for Obama while the motion picture HOME is struggling TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR OWN.,
P.S
KATENZBERG WHO WAS PART OF THIS FUNDRAISER IS A BOARD MEMBER OF THE MOTION PCTURE HOME.
I GUESS THEY WILL NEVER HAVE TO GO THERE.
GUESS WHAT GUYS…YOU NEVER KNOW!
A few more capital letters and you would have swayed me.
If the people in greater Los Angeles were organized, they would raise more than 15 million to pay Obama not to come to LA. His visits create at least 15 million dollars worth of local inconvenience…not to mention ill will.
Have fun Barack, George, Jeffrey and the others attending. And remember, we will all be undoubtedly thinking about you throughout the traffic chaos because we will have lots of time to kill going nowhere.
Only Republicans would be bitter the president is coming to town.
Everyone else in LA is used to roads being closed, and usually for far longer than one evening.
Also who the hell in LA will care in November about a road being closed for a couple hours in May? Will you still be sitting on the highway, arms folded, fuming?
On second thought, don’t answer that.
Wow, an Obama fundraiser suddenly brings out the haters on this site, spouting the usual right-wing nasty vitriol. Good for Clooney, good for Obama, and hopefully good for America in November.
Did you actually say good for America with the worst recession in history and unemployment over 8% in most states and almost double that in CA? Yeah you keep that lie going.
their desperation is certainly palpable
Like! Like! Like!
The Fundraiser In Chief strikes again! The man of the people could care less when you’re stuck in one of his traffic jams.
How’s that Obama care working out for you all? They just raised our rates at the company I work for by 25%. Funny I don’t see the words “Health care” in any of his early campaign pr.
Interesting, no one is talking about the main issue he focused on for his first 13 months in office.
OWS LA will be out in force, I bet
You are kidding yourself. This is a tone deaf President with a horrendous record. Gone is the day of charming voters with double talk bs. Romney, as bad as he is, will be competitive everywhere.
“general public donations”
Who in the general pulic give $40,000.00 in donations for a dinner? I guess this is the difference between people who can throw away tens of thousands of dollars and those of us trying to buy $4 a gallon gas and make the rent. Welcome to the NEW AMERICA.
Finally the President won’t be in Hancock Park! 15 million…in one night…maybe Clooney should be Treasury Secretary…
The fact that one day of heavy traffic is more than East Valley residents can bear is a sign of why our country is in this mess. We’re not ready to be the least bit uncomfortable, are we? Not even in service to a greater good. And yes, raising money to defeat Mitt “I like firing people” Romney is definitely the greater good.
Kelsey Grammer won’t be attending.
Kudos to Clooney and other people of wealth who care about what happens to folks far below their tax bracket.
This election comes down to choosing Obama the guy who made his own way on very little vs. Romney the silver spoon Richie Rich who had it all handed to him by his multiple-wives-Daddy.
Who can manage to make the American Dream realest for the majority? Education, saving the American auto industry, marriage rights for all, mortgage rates, stopping Wall Street and Romney from siphoning American wealth into Cayman Islands & Swiss Banks, stopping wars & bringing soldiers home, giving opportunity to people of color.
Um, I don’t think it’s Romney who pays $5,000 a year to have his 6 houses cleaned by some poor schmucks who get no FICA or pensions. I don’t think it’s Romney who has to figure out whether to kill Osama bin Laden. I don’t think it’s Romney who made his Bain Capital money chop-shopping companies and the people who worked there. I don’t think it’s Romney no-amnesty-for-illegal-immigrants. I don’t think it’s armchair general Gomer Romney.
I wanna believe Romney is good at something — not just wearing suits and looking like a basic cable President. I wanna believe Romney has a thoughtful solution to generational American ghetto & immigrant poverty. But then I look at Romney’s record.
Why is it that if you truly support marriage being defined as being between a man and a woman you somehow are filled with hate…? Truly, it makes no sense.
I’m so tired of the many, not all, liberals that seem to think if you don’t agree with them you hate them. I don’t agree with them and I don’t hate them.
As for the president… stop spending money we don’t have!!!!!!
Don’t care what the party in the White House is, increasing what government spends every year at the rate we are is unsustainable!!! I seriously wonder if any of us Americans understands this level of spending MUST end. Taxing the rich more is not enough… cutting some services is not enough. It will take both… We need a president that has the guts to say… Taxes MUST go up and government spending MUST go down!!!
