Talk about a lose-lose situation… Recent reports say Arianna Huffington’s job duties over AOL have been greatly downsized, while Oprah Winfrey’s failing OWN remains on life support at Discovery after losing millions. So what do the two women do? Why join forces, of course. This pathetic pairing sounds to me like an ill-conceived partnership, and it’s interesting that no mention is made of AOL which bought HuffPo last year. Today the Huffington Post Media Group and OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced the launch of an Oprah Winfrey section on Huffingtonpost.com coming August 2012. The special section on the website will feature content created and curated by writers and producers from OWN and Oprah.com specifically for The Huffington Post. Additionally, the section will call upon The Huffington Post’s network of bloggers and community to focus on Oprah.com content “to enlarge the conversation on living our best lives, as Oprah puts it,” said Huffington. Just what their readers don’t need: yet another artificially created dialogue. Winfrey’s OWN can’t capitalize on Oprah’s former popularity when she had her own syndicated talk show. Now analysts are betting that Discovery will pull the plug if topper David Zaslav can figure out a way to rationalize it, and all the money he’s wasted (one recent report predicts a $142M writedown), to Wall Street. As for Arianna, she was given editorial control of AOL’s online properties after HuffPo’s sale. But now she’s lost that and is only editorially in charge of HuffPo again.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Huff Post (owned by AOL) will be partnering with OWN to distribute content? Let’s see….in equation form: Fail + Bigger Fail = Fail squared.
Your math is incorrect
Fail + Bigger Fail = Fail Bigger Fail
However if you multiply,
Fail X Bigger Fail then you have in effect Fail Squared.
These two people have proven themselves as winners and failure is a part of the process. Winners tend to come back and win again.
Yeah…”winners”. DUH….”WINNING”!
Boy, who do you call a “winner” here? Regressives are losers everywhere they exist–sometimes it just takes a while to figure it out.
Want to be on the losing end of something. Join Huff and O.
LMAO!!
First thread: Why is OWN so lame?
Discuss Huff Post.
Huffington was somewhat interesting on the old NPR radio program, where she was assigned the golden position of being able to skewer (via having the last word, and no partisan label) against a particularly weak lineup of a lefty, a righty and an establishment panel.
She convinced the gazillionaire she has married to run for public office, as her puppet, and he got clobbered … and then came out of the closet.
The rest of her life has been grinding that axe.
She is uber-establishment, shrill, and hasn’t espoused a single interesting concept for years, all the while losing more money that her (via her so-called husband’s) failed political campaign.
Oprah (despite her horrible business decisions the past 2 years) at least has empathy for the common overweight woman in her fan base. Huffington, zero.
This venture will crash, Nikki is correct; but it won’t necessarily be a slow-motion train wreck. More like a fail-to-launch video.
Such a good comment I read it twice.
Well thought out and excellently written comment.
This story might as well be about two media outlets in Kazakhstan or the Maldive Islands joining forces, because I am just as likely to view the content either way.
Oprah will drag down Huffington Post like they did Discovery Networks. But I guess after Huffington brought down AOL – this is one alliance that’s surely to sink like an anchor dropped into Mariana’s Trench.
Arianna’s Trench
“Oprah will drag down Huffington Post”
LOL. That’s like saying the Titanic dragged down its anchor.
the titanic DID drag down its anchor. fail.
I know, these two self made millionaire icons are such losers. You’re totally right
@oly. Ariana is a self-made millionaire in the same way that Anna Nicole Smith and John Kerry were self-made. Or if you prefer an example that speaks to your pathetic worldview, the way that Ann Romney is self-made.
These two personalities built their name and fortune based on trust – trust that no longer exists. Are they losers? Not in the sense that they will ever go hungry or that someone somewhere might not still give a rat’s rear what they think. I think their days of being significant opinion shapers in the broader culture are definitely on the wane however. In attempting to extend their influence ever further they succumbed to their own hubris. And now, schadenfreude reins supreme. Good, I say. I would have gladly taken the two of them down had I the power. Thankfully, they did it for me.
Arriana Huffington “self made”? Are you kidding? Since you apparently don’t know Arriana married a very rich, Republican businessman named Michael Huffington. Michael became political and public and so did Arriana. She appeared on Bill Maher’s ABC talk show and espoused a conservative viewpoint. Then Michael announced he was gay, Arriana divorced him and got half of his millions. After that Arriana pivoted 180 degrees and became a leftist.
Arriana became a millionaire the same way John Kerry did – she married it.
And then Arriana, the liberal started the HuffPost then screwed a bunch of writers out of their share when she sold it.
She’s a cunt.
Oprah is self made, don’t necessarily respect her but I respect what she built. huffington self made – hitting the lottery in a divorce is considered self made now?
Huffington self-made? Seriously? After clawing her way up San Francisco’s social ladder, she hounded her new rich friends (Ann Getty in particular) to fix her up with single rich men. This is how Huffington got her money. She married a rich guy who turned out to be gay. (Recall his embarrassing run for Senate in CA? And, yup, he was a Republican.) Divorced him and got buckets of money. This is not what I would characterize as self-made.
Why the hate Nikki? Any network like OWN in it’s early stages (under the same microscope) would have had challenges. What the public and press don’t really have is patience. Except creative endeavors take a while to find. You don’t think they can come up with as good shows as TLC? What is this, rocket science? Plus OWN has really served undeserved documentary filmmakers.
I think its worth letting this network grow. As for the Huffington Post partnership, probably there is limited downside for either party. Oprah/OWN reaches more eyeballs, Huffington Post adds a section that probably won’t cost them much to run (maybe it’s promotional deal?).
I can’t also see how AOL doesn’t somehow give their blessing on this – it’s not like they’re doing so well and would see much downside.
Just my two cents : )
As if, after her 2008 shilling, we needed any further proof of her “some are more equal than others” socialist ideology. Shared misery for all equally — oh, except us Wall Street/Hollywood/Big Media liberal types. We know what’s best for the rest of you…
Desperate times call for desperate measures for them both it seems….
Arianna Huffington’s true colors have always been known as a far left socialistic progressive leanings and Oprah has just been showing hers in the last few years since backing Obama in lieu of Hillary she chose to go with race rather then supporting her own gender and now she is paying the price as another affirmative action baby that is being shown the door for her true leanings of receiving federal help to promote her career while dissing her followers, women and mostly white women at that.
When you get into politics you will always displease 50% of the voters so why in the world would one in show business do this? Because they thing they are above all this and believe in their own press until they come crashing down, we are seeing the same with Obama and his wife as they are show people like dictators not true leaders.
I guess the ole saying still applies “stick a fork in it your done” Oprah and your friend Obama. We all realize Michelle threw you under the bus long ago, you were used, must be embarrasing to have a rank amature such as Michelle do that to you.
You couldn’t be more wrong about Huffington. She’s wealthy and conservative – she simply used the left to help popularize HuffPost enough to sell it to AOL, make a butt load of cash, and return to her conservative ways.
Huffington Conservative? What have you been smokeing? As for this article, it looks like two companies who just really want to piss away their millions. Ophra lost her audience when she pushed Obama on the mindless woman doops, who were willing to follow her off the cliff. Then she showed her true liberal colors when she put Rosey on. Huffington is still using her platform to get payback at her conservative ex.
“Arianna Huffington’s true colors have always been known as a far left socialistic progressive leanings”
What in the blue Hell are “left socialistic progressive leanings?” No one on the planet has views like that. It’s just a hodgepodge of words from Fox News, Drudge, Bietbart, etc.
And I always thought Huffington was conservative? I thought it was well known she was just pulling a Michael Savage and fueling the political flames for money.
None of these people have any political belief besides money.
I don’t understand why Oprah didn’t do what everybody thought she would do and put reruns of her old shows on OWN… Have you seen what she DOES have on?? No wonder it’s failing.
As the idiots say in their Huffington Post comments, Fanned and Faved!
Train Wreck, meet Shinking Ship

A classic Nikki post — I love it
“Pathetic pairing” pretty much says it all. Ms. Winfrey long ago began believing she can do no wrong – never fail. But she has, and does, fail. Her ‘Purple’ movie was a bomb – so it isn’t just since she left Chicago. Huffington is overreaching her considerable talents now, too.
Do you mean The Color Purple? It was no bomb. It was a huge, highly acclaimed success, and arguably one of the best movies ever made. It was the most popular PG rated movie in the year it came out, and made a fortune for Warner Brothers.
Don’t confuse Oprah the actress with Oprah the political activist, and don’t trash her artistry because you don’t like her politics. The two are unrelated. Whoopi Goldberg was spectacular in The Color Purple, and almost nobody likes her politics either. Both Winfrey and Goldberg were nominated for academy awards for their work in this film, and deservedly so. They are fine actresses.
Writer was probably thinking of “Beloved” that *was* a bomb.
It really is sad because until recently, even if you couldn’t stand her show and thought it tripe, you had to respect the empire oprah built. Now she’s just chipping away at all of it and desperately flailing about. The new age mumbo jumbo, the liberal dogma and obvious agenda, the pathetic fawning over barry – the empty suited one, rosie the hate filled, mindless, hypocritical pig. Let me guess, it’s all because of racism and that evil W?!?!
As for the huffington woman, please. She hits the ‘lottery’ in a divorce otherwise no one would even know her name. Her site is typical liberal trash full of as much hate, intolerance, disinformation, lies, hypocrisy and deceit as du. Everything she touches turns to s**t!
hollywood, the media, so called ‘journalists’, celebrities, etc. have convinced themselves that most Americans are liberal and just need to be ‘guided’ into place, and those that aren’t are too ignorant to have an opinion or should be taught how to think. Then they can’t figure out why they have no credibility, get no respect amongst the population as a whole and why we, the people, in increasing numbers are spending our time and money elsewhere. Brilliant!
I’m sending nothing but positive energy to both women and I want nothing more than for them both to succeed. Don’t let the negative jealous energy of other people stop you Oprah & Arianna.
Thanks for spreading the positive energy. I hope you have a great day.
Once Oprah retired, after all of her self-driven hoopla, after her audience wandered back home with the last of their freebies, she immediately ceased to matter. The world has moved on and no one cares about the big blowhard. The fact that the Shrillster and her are combining superpowers is laughable.
I’ll give Huffington credit for helping to create a highly visited news website out of nothing — like say, oh, I don’t know, Deadline.com. Was she a good choice to oversee AOL’s digital properties? Probably not, but live and learn, live and learn.
Huffy reports on other people’s blogs and reports. She will suck the energy out of whatever Opray has left to give. My wife hates Opray’s OWN network. I see them both going down as the people go for fresh new reporting. Old news stinks.
a negative plus a negative is just a bigger negative
It will look like one drowning person grabbing on to another drowning person…not pretty…..
Correction: Oprah is a BILLIONAIRE.
The train wreck already happened. When they signed the deal. We’re just waiting for the wreckage. Oprah made her cash as an empathetic, entertaining arbiter of discussion. Her stock and trade was caring about people and valuing their opinions and input as much as her own. Fame and fortune changed that. She morphed into everyone’s spiritual advisor and life coach. But, she is now in a spot of having almost everything she ever desired, except purpose. And others see that. So, HuffPo will waste ‘space’ with Oprah content that no one cares to look at.
