The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees today announced the creation of two new divisions effective June 4. IATSE’s Broadcast division, separate from the union’s Motion Picture and Television division, will focus on reality TV and other unscripted television. “Representation of broadcast technicians remains an integral part of this Union, and this change will bring added focus and prominence to those crafts,” said union president Matthew Loeb today. Sandra England, currently at IATSE’s Seattle office, will head the Broadcast Division.
The new Education and Training division is intended to help union members broaden their skills. Former union representative Patricia White will run Education and Training. Additionally the union says that its Organizing division will now become part of the Stagecraft division. This is intended, says the union, to give Stagecraft the integration abilities and advantages that the other divisions of Motion Picture and Television Production, Tradeshow and Canadian Affairs already have.
IATSE represents members employed in the stagecraft, motion picture and television production, and trade show industries throughout the United States, its Territories, and Canada.

IATSE provides good-paying jobs with excellent benefits, alright… to themselves.
Just what thousands of unemployed IATSE members desperately need: more IATSE bureaucracy to fund. Thanks, Matt Loeb!
p.s. “NO” on the contract.
The world needs MORE Unionization, not less. But the strength of Labor can ONLY work when the Union Leadership doesn’t pit its own members against one another in competition for jobs. Rates MUST be the same across the board in every City, State, and Nation for every classification or else the promise of organized Labor is just a farce.
Destroying Unions merely plays into the Conservative plan to destroy the Middle Class and concentrate more wealth into the hands of the Plutocrats. We need to remove Conservative’s from seats in OUR Government AND ensure that our Unions are actually working for We the People.
