The Weinstein Company will show Paul McCartney’s directorial debut short film My Valentine on prints of The Intouchables, the runaway hit French film that makes its U.S. debut Friday. The three-minute short, based on an idea by the director’s daughter Stella, stars Johnny Depp and Natalie Portman. They translate the lyrics of McCartney’s song via sign language through the film and Depp adds a guitar solo, which was recorded live. Take a look:

Is Depp being quirky and only doing the signs that look cool?
Sir Paul is arguably the most successful musician of all time and I am as huge a fan as anyone. But this is a disaster. Terrible song, terrible concept, boring as hell.
Would have liked a short description of what The Intouchables is about, but I guess I can look it up. Love the beautiful My Valentine vid. Always wondered if Depp’s somber display is directed at a certain female, and if his signing of “My Valentine” was meant to be sarcastic or if he really meant to sign “My Enemy.” Beautiful hand movements by both Natalie & Johnny.
Couldn’t take my eyes off of Depp. Amazing. And beautiful song by McCartney!
Depp looks like he was too lazy to learn the majority of the signs…
Don’t quit your day job, Paul!

I guess in this case the apple DOES fall far from the tree…
Is it just me or does Johnny Depp look like his Jump Street co-star Richard Grieco in this? Yikes.
I loved the song when I first heard it. This video however grates for some reason. I will now… let it be.
Yes, it’s just you. He looks nothing like Greico. The person who taught Johnny to sign, was sitting in front of him. He did it the way he was shown. He had very limited time to learn the signing and he did a beautiful job. He was asked by Paul to do it and it was very generous of him to take time from filming, to fly in and do this.
I’d call it a music video, but whatever. Shot by Wally Pfister, Christopher Nolan’s DP.
