Subject: Katherine HeiglDear Colleagues,
We just had a lengthy conversation with Katherine and Nancy Heigl — As you already know with Norm’s departure, it has been a very difficult period for them. A time where they were forced to evaluate their personal relationships as well as their current place within the industry. We believe in Katherine and her talent and would have preferred to see it work here at Paradigm, however, they informed us this morning that they would like to explore other agency options. In light of that decision, we have come to the conclusion that it is best that we part ways for now.

Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

The relationship is with the agent, not the agency. No surprise here.
That’s the longest way of saying “She left us” I’ve ever heard.
Wow she was dumb for leaving Grey’s — especially since she only makes a movie a year or so anyway. KH, here’s a tip — fire your mom/manager and get a real experienced strategist to call the shots.
Name a “real experienced strategist” who has called the shots successfully over a career long period – Please….. the flesh peddlers are just heat seeking missiles – Paradigm made the most commission any agency will ever make off of her – until she returns to TV and if she doesn’t do it soon people will care less than they do now.
Whatever agency she goes to she’ll just be ninth blonde on the left…
Heigl should make amends with Rhimes and come back to GA. Woman should already get a clue she belongs to TV, not movies.
she could have done both… but instead her head got too big and now she has no tv and a fading film career.
long list of actors who have done this… then they get back to reality… shelley long, david caruso are the king and queen
She already claimed to be willing to return to Grey’s…but Shonda Rhimes said there wasn’t space for her in the current season. We’ll have to see how it goes next year.
Paradigm is losing a lot of clients. Not that her films are a draw, but just sayin’.
APA, say hello to your newest client.
Any chance she lands at Levity for management? Huge coup for them if so.
And why only TV? Woman has her own prodco creating new content for herself every year and getting paid way more than she would on any network. Why not continue? Sure, most of it’s bad, but woman’s gotta pay her bills, no?
Katherine Heigl needs to face the reality that she is not an engaging enough screen presence to carry a big movie and not a good enough actress to offer much help in smaller roles or smaller movies. She’s basically un-castable.
That was a collective sigh of relief from all of Paradigm. She will be someone else’s problem now.
You totally have that wrong. They will not be happy that she has left at all. They had by all account a good relationship going back a decade and she was pretty much the biggest earner for them. Following some of their other departures – its not looking good for the agency at the moment.
If she was the biggest earner for them then I feel very sorry for that company. All her movies were horrible and she was never paired with anyone she had chemistry with. Hopefully the new agency she hires will book her some serious roles. Hollywood types really know how to cash in on stupid movies for gullible audiences.
The only thing worse than that email from Sam is having your mom as your manager. Momagers are career killers…
I think she needs to land @ CAA or WME and should look for a good ensemble piece (not with 30 characters like New Year’s Eve, but with 5) or a juicy supporting role that will maybe generate some buzz for her. I can’t imagine a studio financing her right now and she doesn’t seem to have the chops to do a balls-out indie, so there’s not really that many ways to play this. Be curious to see what other people would do to revive her career. Thoughts?
Unnnhhh…The Match Game?
The Gap at The Grove is hiring.
hilarious. love your post.
This. And she needs real PR help. Starting with a real manager.
You are exactly, right. Something where she doesn’t have to carry the burden herself. There are some good scripts out there if here mom is willing to do some leg work and search rather than just shoe horn into whatever lame-ass let’s open it January Rom Com they throw at her.
She is a good actress, she’s just been coasting for too long.
Wow now the Digm has no star actors on the list. I guess Sammi will have to go and buy another agent.
katherine who?
Dumb for leaving Grey’s? How do people figure? The show has declined massively in ratings – it is a pale shadow of when it was actually good. Ok she has made about 4 or 5 rom coms which ranged from the very good to very bad, but she has earned between $12m and $15m per movie – so about 4 years Grey’s salary for each flick. Seems like good business to me. Comparing her to Caruso or Long is just ridiculous, neither have had anything like the success she has had with her movies (apart from the most recent they have faired quite well despite negative press). What she needs is a good project – something with some critical acclaim – nothing more than that. Going somewhere else is a good move. She is a very capable actress – but the projects havent always been the best.
Once again Norm escapes the building before it burns to the ground! Anyone remember an agency called Writers and Artists? Replay – cash out before you get kicked out! I gotta give it to him, he always seems to escape without a scratch. Heigl had to be OTD before the ink dried on bilbo’s new deal. The whole story is classic Norm Aladjem. Regardless of Heigl’s current worth in the marketplace, she is still the biggest star they (had). And it is yet another result the digm’s poor strategy of acquiring agencies not agents. Those unfortunate young agents now really have NO way to get anyone on the phone. It looks like ‘digme is on the path to returning to its roots of obscurity…circa 2000, 10100 SM Blvd 25th floor.
Katherine Heigl showed so much promise in ” Knocked- Up ” ( her screen test was sensational , opposite Seth Rogen ) and the first couple of years of “Grey’s Anatomy. ” She just needs to be picky about material , and mainly work with first class directors that will challenge her. Hopefully, she wants to be challenged.
“and mainly work with first class directors that will challenge her” – not her choice unfortunately. there isn’t a first class director in town that wants to work with her.
No first class directors want to work with her and the good scripts aren’t sent her way.
So many clients leaving are leaving Paradigm, one has come to me for representation. After working with them for a while, I can’t believe the number of things they have screwed up for this former client. Oh well, their laziness is a loss that translates into more money for me.
Who else thinks Heigl will go to WME, home of her hubby?
Tru dat. I was at Paradigm and actually had my TV agent call me to tell me I had sold a pilot and that I could “pop the champagne” only to call back a week later and tell me he “misheard” them. Awkward.
And then I had to tell him how to negotiate my fee for a second pilot I did sell. Actually got myself 35K more…
Needless to say they didn’t inspire confidence then. I can only imagine what it’s like now with they’re one big star gone.
welcome to ICM Katherine!
I love how egocentric and deluded this business is. “Heigl told me she wanted to leave and look for another agency, so I thought we should part ways.” No, dude. She left you. You had no part in the decision. That’s like saying, “My wife filed for divorce, so I thought we should part ways.” Yeah. Get a clue.
She’s as unappealing as Whitney Cummings.
Actually, ICM would be a good place for her. She’d get a lot more attention there than @ CAA or WME and they still have a lot of talented writers whose projects they could package her with. Hard to see how she gets much attention at either of the Big Two.
who else has paradigm lost as of late? i found it interesting that they don’t seem to be having an upfront party this year. probably cause they have more agents going to the upfronts than clients.
whom else have they lost client wise, how about we start with the actors who were at the academy awards they lost this year; Gary Oldman, Jessica Chastain, Demian Bichir. Clients are pouring out of there.
Nobody else can see through this? Norm lost Heigl long before it was announced he was leaving the agency. Without his one trick pony, there was no way Paradigm could pay his $1m+ salary and his management committee status. So, he back-channels his friends in the biz, scoops up the Levity job and tells Sam. To save face, they allow Norm to leave the “classy” way and the week following his last day, the Heigl defection is announced. Now they’re stuck with Ruf running talent, who is overburdened with being a lackey for Sam’s brothers. Un-b-leave-able
Digm has gone downhill ever since jim osborne was sold out. He was the lifeblood of that place.
