Looks stellar!
Bloody awesome…. can’t wait… Ms. Hatthaway is excellent…looks like an epic… good luck to Universal!
Look and scope seem rightly epic, but wow, weak vocals for such a signature song. A bit worried now. If the material is done well, this should be one of the finest movie musicals ever made.
I thought she did a very good job with the song. I was very pleasantly surprised.
What her performance has is emotion. It sacrifices a perfect theatrical performance for an excellently done, meaningful characterization, or as close as one can get while singing. The sob that never seems far from her voice, very well done, and I’m not usually an Anne Hathaway fan.
Erik, we haven’t heard her sing the song all the way through, because of the cuts. Hathaway actually has a strong soprano voice, but she choose to sing this signature song in a more intimate and heartbreaking style of singing – more realistic than going the Celine Dion route.
omg, Erik, you need to stop watching American Idol.
Thank you…what a moron.
Film looks amazing with a superb cast…I cannot wait!
hahahah!!! or the Voice, X Factor…blah blah
So go watch something else. Why comment? Her version is emotional. She’s not going for Susan Boyle/Pattie Lupone. She’s singing sad, because ::SPOILER:: she’s about to die. The way Hathaway sings it is perfect for a movie. And I agree with above comment, go back to watching American idol, idiot.
The quick shot of Anne Hathaway singing/crying looked like her Oscar moment.
Unlike Rock of Ages, this has good casting for a great show. I think this will be a hit.
Oh, old fashioned studio Hollywood picture — sometimes I just cannot resist you. Even Russell Crowe looks great for this.
Agree
Hathaway shaves her head, give her the oscar for that! I bet Hugh will also get one.
Not wild about Hathaway’s interpretation of I DREAMED A DREAM – I what I’ve seen multiple times on stage has been more powerful and dramatic. Just don’t think she has the vocal chops.
However, the look of the film is pretty epic and I think this could actually do justice to the source. And…they’re not using NICK JONAS for Marius!!
Best interpretations I’ve seen of the song, and I’ve heard them all. From on the stages to the 10th anniversary. I’ve been a huge fan. I am so impressed with this interpretation.
For the 25th Anniversary, Jonas was just absolutely awful. Completely paled in comparison to Michael Ball. I get that a film is a differentiated experience from the stage shows but still think they should deliver a “wow” for people who haven’t seen them on stage. In contrast, we typically get stars WAY out of their depth because a director and studio mistakenly wanted more wattage on screen.
I guess you don’t understand the different mediums of stage and film. The way to ruin this amazing musical would be to have it sung and performed as it were on stage.
Fortunately, they clearly have not done that…and I’ll go out on a limb and say I think this will be an enormous hit.
And thank the stars they didn’t cast Jamie Campbell Bower, either, as Marius.
This is certainly a risk, but it may prove to be a good one. Have faith in Hooper, the cast and the production team.
And, with reference to Anne’s singing, it is obvious she is no songstress diva, but she makes it sound real…and, that will work for me.
Good luck to all.
Looks terrific.
I’ve never been a huge Hathaway fan… but I think this film will change my mind. This trailer is incredible.
Absolutely. I wasn’t going to watch this film but I think I will now.
I so agree. I’ve never seen this musical, and i’m not even that into musicals, but that trailer put a lump in my throat. I may have to check this out and cry like a poor hungry french girl.
Looks really good, I’m impressed
Smart call to cast Samantha Barks as Eponine. She is incredible in this role on stage. And I am so relieved that Taylor Swift did not make this cast (shudder)
Ms Hathaway has a REAL voice…not an America’s Got Talent/American Idol scooping-all-over-the-map-for-a-note, voice. Thank God.
Here’s to hoping that this star-studded cast and beautiful-looking film will make up for this WEAK song.
Belting? You want belting? How about alittle yodeling as well? Hathaway’s version of this song moved me very much…hey maybe she can act and that helps. Singing styles should fit the location. If you need to sing to the balcony well had better be able to.If you are singing in a film the format is more intimate.. do you absolutely need to belt out the song? Looking forward to this Les Miserables. Oh and Crowe looks splendid as Javert.
Why are people trashing Anne Hathaway’s vocal performance on this song? She does a tremendous job? She’s not riffing or overbelting. Sure in the stage version the actress always belts it, but that’s for the stage. This is film! She’s making it intimate and real and it’s a lot more powerful that way, I think.
It’s not American Idol or The Voice.
I for one love it and can’t wait!
People weirdly trash Anne Hathaway for alot of random stuff, excluding the Oscars which was a mess. I don’t get it, I love her. And you can’t watch this trailer and say “she sucks”. You could, but you’d be wrong.
What’s next? Susan Boyle as Catwoman?
Argh! This was passable, at best… why oh why do they have to put Hollywood names in movie versions of Broadway shows? Elaine Paige’s ears must be bleeding.
Because no one will go see a movie starring aging Broadway performers.
And I say performers because many of them are horrible actors.
And I say no one because the number of hardcore Broadway Junkies who want the original casts or B-Way vets is so small that it approaches ZERO.
I am not a musical theater fan, in any way shape or form. But I will see a film with strong actors who have capable voices.
The film looks AMAZING – but I was wondering why the trailer was all Anne Hathaway, especially considering how small that part is compared to every other part. (Trying to lure Batman fans?) Looking forward to it. Definitely curious about those high notes though. Can Jackman really hit them?
Because “I Dreamed a Dream” is the most recognizable song, and therefore would spark the most interest among a wide/general audience not necessarily familiar with the musical as a whole.
Tom Hooper is the real deal.
This looks amazing.
Fantastic trailer!! I was almost certain TH would not disappoint. From the comment section it seems some realy don’t want a new take on a song so many has done before. If you want someone to belt it (don’t know if AH will do it in the film) , then go watch one of the several hundred shows playing around the globe.
Fresh takes are always welcome with this avid lover of movies.
I’m glad that I am going to see the stage production for the third time next month, because Hathaway’s vocal carries a mere fraction of the power and impact that either Randy Graff or Patti Lupone lent to their respective renditions.
The film production “looks” good, but I fear the acting choices may hurt the overall effect of this stage-to-film adaptation.
Looks incredible! Anne Hathaway is great in it from what I’ve seen and I loved the way she sang the song. I’m not usually a fan of hers or Eddie Redmayne but I can overlook it for an outstanding production. And I mean come on, Russell Crowe is in it… did you expect it to be any less than amazing?
He looks like such a Bad-A** in it.
