It is the end of the road for Marc Cherry’s veteran ABC dramedy Desperate Housewives, which ended its eight-season run this month, but it ain’t over yet for Cherry’s latest project, the Desperate Housewives-esque Devious Maids. Lifetime is looking at the pilot, which missed the cut at ABC, and has had conversations with its producer, ABC Studios. While Lifetime appears interested, sources stress that the talks are preliminary. The cable network has been looking at a number of busted broadcast pilots and cancelled series, including CBS’ Unforgettable, but Devious Maids seems to be closer than most to the new, younger and sexier direction Lifetime is taking with series like The Client List. Additionally, like USA Network, which owns off-network rights to Modern Family and is exploring picking up Fox’s comedy pilot Rebounding, executive produced by Modern Family co-creator Levitan, as a companion for it, Lifetime is the off-network home of Cherry’s Desperate Housewives.

Based on the Mexican format, Devious Maids follows four maids (Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Judy Reyes) with ambition and dreams of their own while they work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. The project’s cast also includes Susan Lucci, and Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria is among its executive producer.

Guessing Lifetime is going to pass on this show. If a network like ABC doesn’t want it (and wondering if this decision had something to do with the case against him vs. Sheridan), Lifetime wouldn’t care for it either and anything involving Longoria will surely tank.
Eva is a prod on the show….thts all..Ive seen the pilot and its great…dont comment on somethin u knw nuthin about
I’ve seen the pilot and it’s crap. Don’t comment on anything if you don’t know.
Put it on Cinemax so they can actually be devious!
I hope this happens! I was really looking forward to this show but was disappointed when abc didn’t pick it up.
Lifetime should really pick up GCB. It fits the net’s new young, soapy, tawdry formula forged by The Client List. It also has a built-in audience with its very loyal fan base.
I completely agree. Picking up GCB would be smart business for Lifetime.
Hmm, could be a win for Lifetime, but that depends on the quality of the pilot. Could be that it wasn’t bad, just outshone by ABC’s others. And it seems very much on brand with Lifetime.
This should’ve been picked up. Fantastic script and great pilot.
Lucci’s been generating a lot of great buzz because of her guest starring role on Army Wives this season. It would make sense for Lifetime to pick up this pilot.
Great to see the cable networks looking at the not picked up pilots of the networks for potential series on their networks..
Would like to see AMC or Hallmark pick up The Frontier that was a western pilot on NBC.
Side Order of Life brought Lifetime a young/diverse audience at a time when they didn’t see the value in it. Half the cast was Hispanic. This new regime is a lot smarter. May Devious Maids have a long and happy run there.
Sorry, but didn’t that show get canceled? I don’t see Devious Maid being a huge success like “Desperate Housewives”.
Oh he’ll so love a Lifetime budget! This is just too good.
I’m sorry, but there is nothing original about this! Yes, I get with Eva Longoria was getting at about Latina Maids have had a great impact on the people that they have worked for, and yes their stories should be worth telling. However, the title alone “Devious Maids” doesn’t sound like a show that would represent the positive of Latina Maids. The show itself sounds look “Desperate Housewives”; not showing the good side of how hard these women work, but exposing their dirty laundry, and I think that is why some of the Latina community feels that the show can be a misconstrued. It’ doesn’t sound like the show would represent the hard work that Latina Maids put into their job. So therefore, I can understand why ABC passed on it. The show sounds very ridiculous to me!!! And if Lifetime did pick it up, I will give it at least one season, of tops!
Today in film school 101 we will learn the word that networks fear the most: “Reshoot”
Lifetime should stop with the smut and start showing women who matter. It’s sickening that they seem to be pandering to men. They have a solid, loyal audience with women and should protect their brand. More “Army Wives,” “Drop Dead Diva” and true crime, and less “Dance Moms,” “Client’s List” and trash.
Don’t forget 7 Days of Sex, it’s trash. You make a very good point. Devious Maids sounds awful. I give it at least one season, before they get the boot!!
Drop Dead Diva was a pilot that Fox? passed on and it has been a big success for them, so I could see why they look at network pilots. I don’t think Devious Maids is for them. I agree GCB would be better but what do I know?
Hi,
I agree with you! GCB would be such a major hit for Lifetime. As for as Devious Maids, NO! The title itself sounds awful, as well as the show. Devious Maids is nothing but a cheap spin off of Desperate Housewives, and a negative look on Latina maids. I don’t think, just by the sound of the title, that the show will show the hard work and the inspiration that real life Latina women put into their job. I think the show will disrespect them in a very bad way!
This sounds really cheap. “Devious Maids” come one, what kind of title is that?! At least Desperate Housewives title was more appealing. This show sounds like it will be really trashy, and will stereotype Latina maids. I will be very disappointed if Lifetime picked this up. At least The Client List is based on actual events, this crap seems nothing but a negative spoof for maids getting paid to sleep with the people they work for. Mac Cherry thinks giving the show similarities from Desperate Housewives will make it a huge successes, but I highly doubt that. He should head for a different approach. So the positive side of what this women touches the lives of the people they work for like they did in The Help.
Not trying to sound negative but I give this show one season before it gets canceled. Bad imitation of maids and the Latina community. So Sad if Lifetime picks this up!
Who will watch this and not get offended by this?! I prefer they pick up GCB and not this CRAP of so-called entertainment. Do they not have any shame. Yes, I understand there isn’t enough Latinas in staring roles on TV, but do they have to play maids all the time? “Devious” maids at that? If this show gets on the air, they will defiantly stereotype the actual hardworking Latina women who puts in 9 to 5 each day cleaning up after people. I am very disappointed that these actresses and actors would sign up for roles like these. SHAMEFUL!!!
Don’t do it Lifetime, don’t do it. This would probably be your worst choice in a show, since The Protector. Nothing about this show sounds positive nor catchy. Just a cheap and more negative spin off of the hit Desperate Housewives, that MOCKS Latina maids. Have pride, dignity and RESPECT for the hardworking women who actually do the job of being MAIDS and not actress playing them for a check to stereotype them!
Thank you ABC for making the right call on this one. This just a stupid concept and very stereotypical. Having 4 Afro latinas as maids just demeans a Afro Latina image and is not productive to the image of Afro Latinas and it wasn’t that they were just maids they were also Devious. I am glad ABC canned it before anyone got offended. Now Lifetime needs to make the right decision as well, not to pick up this show either!
I think Eva has a point in saying that these stories are worth telling, HOWEVER, was this going to be a type of show that addressed the serious issues facing Latina maids or was it “Desperate Housewives: the maid version?” I guess we’ll never know, but I’m guessing it would have been another soapy, gossipy Marc Cherry production with no real depth or substance.
I didn’t want to see this show on the air. They can come up with something else besides a show about maids. And I’m tired of the old lie that any show, even if it’s sterotypical, is good because it opens doors. If that were true, then there would be lots of Latinos on TV by now.
I hope Lifetime makes the right decision and not pick this show up. I think that these actresses are way to talented and shouldn’t have to settle for a show that is too stereotypical to Latina community. I get that they want to have Latins on TV, but there are other and better ideas of having a great Latin show. Ugly Betty was awesome and didn’t stereotyped the Latinas with have Latina’s as leads! Cane was a great show with Rita Moreno, until it got canceled after just one season! Shows like that are never given a fair chance but they want to put crap like Devious Maids and 7 Days of sex on Lifetime?! Pathetic!!! I pray Lifetime passes on this negative format of a TV series.
Lifetime eyes Devious Maids? Bad choice! Bring back GCB!
How about picking up BOTH Devious and GCB? They’d be a great pair. And btw, I saw the Devious pilot, and it was one of the best I’ve ever seen.
I heard the pilot for Devious Maids was a bomb! They said people actually walked out during the screening, and it definitely didn’t hit well with the critics. One reason why ABC passed on it. But we won’t know until WE see it. But I have a feeling this won’t be one another hit for Mac Cherry. I think his streak ended when Desperate Housewives came to an end. I think a couple of episodes in with Devious Maids will be aired before it will be OFFICIALLY PULLED! Doesn’t sound like a winner to me. Seems quite cheesy of a show, like this type of idea hasn’t been made before. I think Cherry could have came up with a better idea for a television than maids.
