Lionsgate is looking at converting several movies into TV series — including, I’m told, the 2010 action film about a team of mercenaries. It wasn’t on CEO Jon Feltheimer’s list this morning, though, when he briefly discussed synergy plans in a conference call with Wall Street analysts following the company’s release last night of its fiscal Q4 results. Feltheimer says he’s also considering making series from Red and Step Up, film franchises acquired with the recent purchase of Summit Entertainment. Speaking of the deal, Feltheimer noted that Lionsgate’s $500M term loan to fund it “will be paid down on schedule” and its debt will be “significantly reduced.” One of the main reasons for that, of course, is the huge success of The Hunger Games. Due to the timing of the release in March at the end of the studio’s fiscal Q4, about 90% of the profits have yet to be reported. That made Feltheimer confident enough to report that Lionsgate “will generate approximately $900 million in EBITDA over the next three years.”

That, actually, would be awesome.
If you’re going for the 49+ demographic, that is.
Dang, you’re dumb. A TV show version wouldn’t star old guys like Stallone. It would have younger versions of those characters, or different characters.
The Expendable is Homage to 80′s A and B action movies. As a TV series is won’t get the same budget as it’s film predecessor. Clearly if Lion Gate want’s to have a bigger interest in Television. There is numerous original material and Young Hungry Writers to establish original franchises.
A series like Human Target payed homage to that same era of action movies but was loosely based off adult VERTIGO comics graphic novel. It a really good first season and found it’s self in the finale. Then Fox exes brought in some hack producer Mathew Miller to revamp the show. When all needed were some small little fixes. Thus it had horrible season 2.
Luc Buson second TV iteration of La Femme Nikitta has some interesting ideas and well done choreographed fight and action scenes. Overall does not have great writing or world building. Like all shows on CW it suffer from these common problems.
1.Too Much repetitive exposition(It almost like the writers run out of ideas)
2.Characters need stronger writing(Why is it almost every character wears their heart on their sleeves and say what on the top of their head at any given moment. Real Humans don’t do that.
3. Adult Sensibilities are at a bare minimum(I know that not every show on CW can write adult characters like they did on Veronica Mars Or Even handle adult situations in the same serious manner. The whole Parent don’t understand teenage soap concept is more than just stale it basically rotten and cringe worthy.
“The Expendable is Homage to 80?s A and B action movies.”
hommage? oh no, sir. with that shaky cam and cgi blood?
I think this is a great idea.
Tough sell I would think for domestic..Isn’t America’s mindspace all about the threat from within right now?
Would be a big sell overseas I guess..
Sadly, America is all about dudes in tight suits with special powers now. Personally, I’m SICK of freaking “superheroes.”
OK. That would be fine. As long as its on a Premium Channel, i.e HBO, Showtime, and so on.
TOTALLY COOL!
Then, in ten years, they can make a feature film based on the television series!
P.S. Bieber should be buffed in time for the movie.
Cool idea. Just replace the actors with newcomers that ‘look’ between ages 25-35 (could be real-life 25-45).
A lot of people went to see the Expendables because of all the action stars. you really do that with a tv show. hate to say it but this one is doomed to fail.
