LOS ANGELES (May 24, 2012) – The Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) today announced the lineup of speakers and panel sessions for the 2012 Locations Show, which includes industry leaders, filmmakers and the creative teams behind some of the most talked-about films of the last two years. More than 200 exhibitors from 40 countries are already confirmed for the show, which will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center during the opening weekend of Film Independent’s Los Angeles Film Festival on June 15 – 16, 2012.
There is no fee to attend the Locations Show and all industry attendees are encouraged to pre-register at the show website (www.afcilocationsshow.com). The Locations Show will also feature more than 15 panel discussions and workshops designed to provide producers with important career tools and perspectives necessary to compete in the global marketplace. The panels have been organized in association with industry groups including the DGA, the MPAA, the Locations Managers Guild of America, the Association of Independent Commercial Producers and the International Documentary Association, among others, and will reach across film, television and commercial production.
The list of featured speakers confirmed thus far includes Cinedigm Digital Cinema Corp. CEO and Chairman Chris McGurk (presenting the Los Angeles Film Festival keynote address), Paramount Pictures Chief Operating Officer Frederick Huntsberry, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo producer Cean Chaffin, Middle of Nowhere director Ava DuVernay and producers Howard Barish and Paul Garnes, Bellflower director Evan Glodell and producer Vincent Grashaw, the Academy Award winning production designer of Chicago and Memoirs of a Geisha John Myhre, Men In Black III Visual Effects Supervisor Jay Redd; Contagion Location Manager Dow Griffith, and many more. The Locations Show this year, for the first time, takes place concurrently with the opening weekend of the Los Angeles Film Festival. The Festival will be held at L.A. LIVE from June 14-24, and is produced by the non-profit arts organization, Film Independent. It has attracted upwards of 90,000 visitors, and will screen nearly 200 features, shorts and music videos from more than 30 countries this year. Additionally, the Festival features conversations with guest artists and access to some of the most critically acclaimed filmmakers, film industry professionals and emerging talent from around the world.
